  1. It won't be proper insurance; the 300 baht fee would not be enough to cover that. It's more likely a contingency that might help if for some reason the proper insurance doesn't pay or to help hospitals in case foreogn patient can't or won't pay. But the collection system will be a logistical nightmare for airlines, who will have to charge a different fare depending upon nationality and visa status. I don't think think this concept will go down too well with them
  2. Many cities have a hotel city tax that is clear for all to see. Thailand has hotel city taxes, generally known as room tax, that is hidden from the public, no doubt including the candidate who thinks he has come up with a bright idea!
  3. Neither I nor any of my family had to show vaccination proof when flying into Phuket three weeks ago. And we were waved through at Sarasin when we returned from Khao Lak during the trip. So it seems like they are simply formalising what has been the practice for some time.
  4. With the current craze for sticky rice and mango, I'm surprised that Thailand has any mangoes left to export!
  5. You can't just make an immediate change to a computer system such as this. It requires reprogramming and UAT (user acceptance testing) before going live.
  6. I really don't believe you posted this! There's a lengthy process to go through to change these things. It ain't just pressing a button!
  7. Farang? Doesn't bother me. However, when I first came to Thailand I was generally referred to as "hansum man" whenever I walked past the bars or massage places. Nowadays it's "Papa"! Now that p!sses me off much more!
  8. If................... If.......................... If.............................
  9. Very few and the crew were all maskless. Most were wearing masks on the long haul BkK to Zurich flight but at least two cabin crew were not and after eating I noticed many passengers didn't bother replacing their masks for the rest of the journey.
  10. And how many Thai over 60 would have a clue what this is all about? Not just Thais BTW. Also most tech stocks have been a total disaster during the past few months. It may be a good time to buy, we may never see a bounce-back. Who knows?
  11. They haven't said what way the adjustments might go: loosening or tightening up! Meanwhile in Europe yesterday (on the way back to the UK from Thailand), the Swiss Air flight I was on had no mask wearing requirements whatsoever.
  12. Not sure of the price but it's definitely running. I've seen it a couple of times in Kata/Karon during the past few days.
  13. My guess is that something's been lost in translation and the 1 million relates to all arrivals. Suvarnabhumi's seeing around 10,000 foreign arrivals per day, Phuket about 2,000. I'm not even sure the other airport are open to international flights.
  14. I'm totally confused as to what the rules actually are. The good thing is I can at least go to the local 7-Eleven without getting a soaking.
  15. The picture of the Thai cabinet shows the reason why women need to take a more important role in Thailand. Look closely and you will spot one!
  16. 80 accusations. That's over 10% of the number of MPs/senators. I wonder if any other occupation would have similar numbers (just thought, the police and the military might be well up there!)
  17. I've been back for a few days and that's not how I'd describe what I've seen, especially in Karon and Kata. I haven't made it to Patong though.
  18. I'll be positive and hope that this will mark the start of a proper 21st century lottery where people can actually choose the numbers they want rather than rely upon what the vendor has in his/her wooden box.
  19. If she said they expected 50-55,000 visitors of which around 30% were expected to be non-Thai it would be slightly more believable! They don't even know the basics of statistical forecasting! I'd assume her survey souce would he hotels, airlines and ferries but with TAT it could be a few random phone calls until they came across two or three potential visitors.
  20. Someone should have told him they look a bit ridiculous tucked into the trousers, and they don't really go with masks either! Can I assume that masks are compulsory for water play areas? I'm not quite sure of the efficacy of a saturated mask!
  21. Agoda offers Test and Go packages. The other major online agents don't so I'd say they are possibly more accurate than the others. I also believe this is the major reason for Agoda's searches for Thailand being out of line with any other booking site.
