Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
madmitch replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News Headlines
It won't be proper insurance; the 300 baht fee would not be enough to cover that. It's more likely a contingency that might help if for some reason the proper insurance doesn't pay or to help hospitals in case foreogn patient can't or won't pay. But the collection system will be a logistical nightmare for airlines, who will have to charge a different fare depending upon nationality and visa status. I don't think think this concept will go down too well with them -

Still well under half the price of the UK! -
Phuket: Covid tests and vaccine requirements scrapped from Sunday
madmitch replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Neither I nor any of my family had to show vaccination proof when flying into Phuket three weeks ago. And we were waved through at Sarasin when we returned from Khao Lak during the trip. So it seems like they are simply formalising what has been the practice for some time. -
Thailand now stands as 7th world’s top fresh mangoes exporter

With the current craze for sticky rice and mango, I'm surprised that Thailand has any mangoes left to export! -
Expert Advises Retirees to Adjust Investment Plans
madmitch replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
And how many Thai over 60 would have a clue what this is all about? Not just Thais BTW. Also most tech stocks have been a total disaster during the past few months. It may be a good time to buy, we may never see a bounce-back. Who knows? -
They haven't said what way the adjustments might go: loosening or tightening up! Meanwhile in Europe yesterday (on the way back to the UK from Thailand), the Swiss Air flight I was on had no mask wearing requirements whatsoever.

As clearly seen in the accompanying photo. -
Not sure of the price but it's definitely running. I've seen it a couple of times in Kata/Karon during the past few days.

Phuket Sandbox Preparations Inspected Ahead of Songkran Holidays
madmitch replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I've been back for a few days and that's not how I'd describe what I've seen, especially in Karon and Kata. I haven't made it to Patong though. -
B80 Lottery Tickets to Be Sold on App from June 16 Draw
madmitch replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
I'll be positive and hope that this will mark the start of a proper 21st century lottery where people can actually choose the numbers they want rather than rely upon what the vendor has in his/her wooden box. -
If she said they expected 50-55,000 visitors of which around 30% were expected to be non-Thai it would be slightly more believable! They don't even know the basics of statistical forecasting! I'd assume her survey souce would he hotels, airlines and ferries but with TAT it could be a few random phone calls until they came across two or three potential visitors.

Hospitals Put on 24hr Alert for ‘7 Dangerous Days’
madmitch replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Someone should have told him they look a bit ridiculous tucked into the trousers, and they don't really go with masks either! Can I assume that masks are compulsory for water play areas? I'm not quite sure of the efficacy of a saturated mask! -

Can the Thai hospitality sector survive 2022?
madmitch replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Agoda offers Test and Go packages. The other major online agents don't so I'd say they are possibly more accurate than the others. I also believe this is the major reason for Agoda's searches for Thailand being out of line with any other booking site.
