  1. A box of candles might be a bit of a boon Jim. I can relate to much of what you say as I have a simlar situation here. The problem with my flashlights is that everyone puts them somewhere else when their done with them, so when the power cuts they can't be found in the dark. But the candles are in a drawer and never get shifted. I love the rainy nights, but the good rains never seem to last long enough for me. Usually 15 minutes of downpour and then things settle down.

  2. I just walked around the office to survey the food and snacks stored on almost every Thai employee's desk.

Deep fried stuff, sugar coated stuff, deep fried sugar filled stuff - all of it Thai, non of it western, no big macs, no KFC. There is some Pizza. Covered in gunk (Thai Style).

If Thais are getting fat they are doing it to themselves with the keen help of CP Foods.

I agree, people are pretty quick to blame western franchises for the world's woes, but if you live with Thais you will know that the amount of times that they go to MacD's, KFC... is quite a lot less than their frequent purchases of Thai style fast food /vendor food. Which is often several times a day. And lets not forget the minimarts which seem occupy about 10% of commercial properties in Thailand.

The farm girls are thinner because of more home cooked meals, and a more active lifestyle.

  3. I love Clint, amazing character actor in his earlier days; ultimate tough guy, ultimate cool. You can't think western without an image of Clint and probably the soundtrack from one of his shows running through your head.

Then in later years became a legendary director as well.

He spent a few months filming the unforgiven near our small town and fit in fine with the locals.

So you're saying he outsourced jobs to Canada? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! wink.png

Lots of Hollywood flicks made in Canada, but the actors union is the same so don't get too upset.

He spent a few months filming the unforgiven near our small town and fit in fine with the locals. When he went for his morning run people left him alone. He didn't make a big deal about stuff or insist on special treatment. I never heard a negative word about it, other than what some of the production crew got up to with the local ladies. But Clint wasn't part of that.

That film got nominated for 9 oscars and it took home 4 including best director and picture.

I doubt he is worried too much about what people say these days, he's going to say and do what he likes because he has nothing left to prove.

  5. We had a real belly washer today, and there's another angry cloud rumbling to the south right now.

But it had been quite a while since the last one.

Guess you are reporting on Canada, since your name is the only clue as to where one might get their belly washed...

Yes of course, I should have said up near Wawee, Chiang Rai.

But I am sure it rained somewhere in Canada too. It's pretty big

  6. Give the guy a break, he took his bike to the dealer to get a chain tightened, and the dealer failed the most basic of all motorcycle mechanical skills. I think that is thread worthy.

Technically the axle nut should be tightened with a torque wrench, I don't have one of those either and I also hate guessing how much to tighten that nut.

  7. if a Thai person has a passport then the odds are she know how to get another!

If a Thai woman wants something, the odds are she knows exactly what it is and where it can be purchased, all that she needs said farang for is to pay!

Getting a passport and renewing one are completely different processes. Knowing the former does not aid you in the latter.

The Thai wife will probably have asked a friend or Poo Yai who may have given them completely erroneous information that they will, because of the source, implicitly believe. Because of the way information is disseminated here that information is often wrong leading to lengthy unnecessary trips and expenses.

For example, recently I needed to extend my visa in Bangkok. I knew from reading TV that the old immigration office was no longer servicing westerners, though they still do apparently service Thais and surrounding countries.

I said we had to go to the new office which is quite a ride.

She said no and asked a friend who is a dual national Thai. Her friend told her that "She" did it in the old office and we should go there.

So she is now determined that we can go to the old office.

I said no and showed her the immigration website which clearly states that office is not for me.

She then asked a Poo Yai friend who "knows" the immigration general. He said go the old office, no problems.

So taking a good book and a lot of small change I sigh and get in the cab for the long trip to the old office only to be told, as predicted, that we had to now take an even longer cab ride to the new office.

This happens all the time with almost every subject.

    Get used to it.

Either get used to it or do things your way (usually the correct way) and stop wasting time going round and round in ever decreasing circles.

Sometimes I naively wish I can teach her a lesson and that if I do this enough times negative reinforcement will kick in.

i also sometimes wish my dog was a unicorn and that i had a jetpack....

Exactly, and I think your wish about the unicorn and jetpack will come true first.

  8. i prefer skinless dogs but 7-11 ones are alright but the bun goes to the thrash.

Um... they sell all of them without buns? Or are you talking about one of their pre-packed offerings in the cooling? Those products can vary by region. Either way I don't recommend those, get the regular (CP manufactured) 7-11 offerings; they're mostly called 'something-bite'.

just to make some things clear . . i don't think hot dogs as sausages, 2 different thing imo. no one put mustard on sausages!

    I do.

So do I. And on bacon, eggs, tomatoes. Steaks, ribs, etc, etc.

don't forget bologna or ham sandwiches.
  9. In other words, a prophecy, strongly held belief, or a delusion, declared as truth when it is actually false may sufficiently influence people, either through fear or logical confusion, so that their reactions ultimately fulfill the once-false belief. Wiki said that.

Your using it wrong, even with Wiki's help.

My opinion is not causing anything to occur. Your not blaming the missing 'what if' gene on me. Thailand developed that on its own.
