  1. "his company was granted right to “rebuild” 10% broken rice to 5% broken rice"

Rebuild? ... Don't they mean cut it in half? cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

"his company was granted right to “rebuild” 10% broken rice to 5% broken rice"

The 'higher' the %% of "broken" with regards to rice-quality, the 'lower' the value/price of the rice. Therefore; by stating "to re-build", they mean, in fact, to defraud, because they were aiming to receive the (substantially) higher price for the (substantially) lower quality of rice.

    It's much the same as selling someone a Benz C-300, but sending him a Benz C-180 . . . . . . . . . .

  2. "“We will attack and arrest them, suddenly and immediately, tomorrow."

I applaud their actions, but I think they might need to do some work on the element of surprise.

"The best way to get the termites to show themselves, is to shake the rotten piece of wood"

Don't you fret none; this action may be executed by the local Sheriff, but it has been planned-out by the Governor (Gen. Prayut & Co.) ! ! !

  3. This lady is a great person and a hero from the tsunami crisis! If you don't know about her you can find a lot about her if you try to. If you make fun of her... Get a life!!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

@BKKDEN: You're so right; I hazard a guess that most people here simply look at the 'cover' and don't know 'the book'. Khun Pornthip is a bastion of integrity and the reason why the BIB do not like her, is because this girl can NIT be bought, simple as that ! ! !

    When I first read this head-line; my mind shouted "Hallelujah ! ! ! !"

  4. There is no fine for an overstay that is is less than 24 hours if leaving form either airport in Bangkok.

One day of overstay is very common and is certainty not that big a deal.

I m very surprised to hear you say this, Ubonjoe, because it most certainly CAN BE a very big deal, if the subject happens to get checked by the authorities ON HIS WAY TO that airport ! ! ! Whether you are 'over-staying' by 1 day, or 1 year: the treatment will be exactly the same: you WILL be arrested and put into Immigration Detention Center (IDC) and, from what I gather, that is NOT a very nice experience. In addition, you also risk being declared a PNG (Persona Non Grate) and could be placed on the infamous Black-List.

Do NOT think too lightly about ANY overstay ! !

  5. I've always wondered why these people have a desire to undertake these moronic initiatives, such as descending into a 1,000 m (!) hole in the ground. And then - when they do get into trouble, huge & very expensive "rescue-missions" have to be undertaken to get the idiot onto the surface again ? ? ? ?

Who does he think has to bear the enormous cost of his rescue anyways ? ? ? ? ?

  6. I'd like to know where all this is heading. How deep into the bowels of nepotism, cronyism, patronage and connection will this go?

Does the good general really want to suck the intestines out of the establishment? Because that's what he's going to have to do. So, does he feel he has the "firepower" to do this? After all, we know where this is all going to lead. And I don't think he really wants to go there.

Whoaaaa; he's already on his way, mate ! ! !

  7. You could join an internet forum, stay at home and complain about all things Thai every waking hour.

Seems to work for many Farangs here on TV.

You could spend a day at the magnificent Silver Lake Vineyard, or do some serious sailing out of Ocean Marina. Then there are many diving-schools (a new hobby ?); have lunch at the very lovely "Beer-Garden" at the beginning of the Walking Street; get yourself out to a pistol shooting range - in addition to simply renting a car and just discovering the land around Pattaya . . . . you'll be surprised how different the "country-side" is as opposed to "Pattaya". I've lived on the outskirts of Pattaya for 22 years and I still see 'new-things' almost daily . . . . . . . . .

  8. We never heard more about all the high value cars discovered a few months ago up country. Brushed under the carpet no doubt.

Then we have the mystery of Chalerms Rolls Royce 'loaned' to him by a friend abroad.

You have not been reading the news properly, obviously: only just 5 days ago, it was revealed that Pol. Lt. Col. Korowat (DSI) was tasked by Gen. Prayut to form a special task-force to do exactly what you are referring to - and more.

  9. There was a standing reward of 25 million dollars from the US government for Bin Laden and no one ever responded to it. He was found by electronic surveillance and because one of his close associates made a mistake. There was also the promise of immediate sanctuary in the US, identity change and protection by the CIA. Ten years and no one collected the reward - no one came forward.

Due to religious fervor, if the plane is in a terrorist friendly nation a reward probably won't do any good. That's where I guess it is, too. The captain was a sympathizer and was upset with the current Malaysian government. No debris has been found after 3 months - it just vanished.

THAT is the thing that doesn't make sense to me; since this plane had some 250 Seats on board; all made of 'flotation-type" materials - and I, for one, find it extremely suspicious that not even ONE of these floating pieces of airplane-seats has NOT come to the surface anywhere . . . . . . These floating cushions are very easily identifiable and surely IF this plane crashed in some ocean, some of these cushions MUST have been able to float to the surface ! ! It would only take 1 of these to confirm that this plane crashed into the water, yet nothing has been spotted by anyone: this is highly unlikely.

  10. Hi All,

I have been using a brilliant little (free) app called "Windfinder" which will give you the following information, literally at your finger-tips:

    1. Wind-Speeds

    2. Wind-Directions

    3. Wave-Heights

    4. Temperatures (you an set it for either C or F

    5. Tide-Heights

    6. Concise Weather-Info.

All this information is contained within 1 single screen and it always starts with the current day and gives you a week's forecast.

You can find their web-site here: http://www.windfinder.com/

Again, it's a free app. and I have 'sailed with it' for about a year now.

    Highly recommended.

    Cheers,

    JF

  11. Whatever all this speculation; one thing is a fact and that is that wherever this plane went down (if, indeed, it did go down in water !) then eventually life-vests, seat-cushions and other identifiable objects MUST have come to the surface, at some point in time - and it would be highly unlikely if some of this debris would not pass by some human eyes somewhere . . . . . .

There's a bit more to this mystery than meets the eye, I reckon.

  12. I would provide 10,000 baht if I was 100% sure it would go to the boy and his family.

If Thaivisa can take responsibility for collecting and ensuring that it would go to the family, I would have no hesitation.

    Great kid.

I'm out of likes, so I say good on you.

Some time ago I read about another story like this in the paper. I was moved by it and made some enquiries about it. I assisted and it felt good to make a difference to someone's life. Some time later the person we helped passed on, but the money they received from so many made the last days, weeks, months of her life much nicer.

A few baht by many hands would make a big difference, but I also understand peoples reservations.

On the face of it; I don;t see a scam here. - However; to deprive this incredibly courageous kid of some serious help is not an option:

    1) Best Case scenario: everything is on the 'up', or

    2) It IS a scam

If everybody would donate a modest sum (between 200 - 500 Tbt.) this little boy would either be helped very much,or Karma would take care of any scammer(s).

  13. I would do it, Karma will pay you back big time.

There is too much selfishness in this world as it is, I think we all in Thailand own something back as what a great place to live and enjoy and we are getting it for 20% the cost of our own country.

Wow, what a dumb post. Sorry. Karma? Is that like the the story of the guy in the sky who watches over all of us?

We foreigners owe Thailand exactly FA. We pay to play. Matters not what our currencies buy us here. We don't owe the Thais anything because their country is relatively uncompetitive and poor. Where do you get these strange notions?

@PaullyW: you ought to change your handle to: "Callous-Canadian" (if, in fact you are Canadian) ! ! !

Let me put it to you in a language that you might be able to grasp; "If you would leave Canada for Nigeria, the Average IQ in both countries would have instantly increased substantially" ! ! !

It's just an educated guess, but you're not from Nova Scotia, by any chance ? ? ? ? ?

  14. Laser Dinghy, now called "Kirby-Torch" are the most brilliant little sailing craft ever conceived (by Bruce Kirby) and I have owned a few of them, over the years; sailed them in Holland, Canada, New Zealand and Thailand.

One of the Posters here was wondering "why" someone would want to undertake such a grueling endeavor; - and I believe the answer is "because its there to be undertaken". Why did Sir Edmund Hillary climb the famed Mt. Everest ? ? ? he said "because it was there" ! - Same principle applies here.

Yassine: in my book you are a hero and admire & applaud your big success ! ! ! ! ! !

  15. Hi All,

Through the years, a number of disgusting cases have occurred in Thailand and after a while and a lot of "hot air", these cases just seem to fade-away, which is absurd. I would like to compose a list of these events and then see if somehow some action might be instigated to get (some of) these cases resolved. To start off this list:

    1. Nong Air; 12 year old Karen girl burned & scalded - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1zp024ZM04

    2. Red-Bull Heir kills policeman - http://edition.cnn.com/2013/09/03/world/asia/thailand-redbull/

    3. Mercedes Bus-Stop Killer - <Link to Bangkok Post removed>

Please feel free to add cases to this list; I know there are may more, but my memory ain't what it used to be either.

You never know; we may just get some justice, where there appears to be none at this stage.

    Thanks,

    J.F.

  16. Can anyone give me google map coordinates for this location , thanks.

No need, mate; just drive South on the mighty Sukhumvit Road (towards Satahip) and after you pass Theprasit Road junction, simply keep going, until you pass the Greenway Golf Range; slow right down and turn left (viz. into Soi 89) just before the 7/11 store. Then it's over the Rail-Road crossing and a further 500 meters and you will see this new place on your Left.

I just live around the corner there and I will give this place a try soon.
