  1. while we are on this topic, does anyone know what the actual government electricity rate is in bangkok for a condominium building? i am being fleeced 4 baht per kwh by my building management and i want to know how much profit they are actually making off me. my present rate of consumption would put me close to 5000 baht per month. and i live alone (mostly) in a 2 bedroom!

2 baht per unit I think?

  2. to answer the thread title - drivers in Thailand are crap!

I noticed now I have a "Phuket Shooting Range" sticker on the back of my window, I can give the finger, yell and abuse people and get know response :o:D

Having mirror glass all around also helps as they dont know who is in the car. :D

  3. I happen to have the biggest electricity bill of anyone I know (private house).

My monthly bill runs between 5,500 and 7,000, that depends on if my wife or myself are sleeping in the "other" room as 2 airconds all night chew the fuel :o

To answer your question, I run an aircond 24 hours a day, 3 fridges, 2 tvs, 2 dvds, 2 computers and lights. I was told by my sparky friend that if you load your freezers with bread, ice or polystirene foam that it will "half" your elec for the fridge. Also having everything on standby doesnt help the bill, but I like to press the remote instead of getting up :D

  4. A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented

the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it

    took him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the

    American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his

needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta

With my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have

A few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs...I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help

you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the

extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat.

    With

the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a

third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of

selling your fish to a middleman, you can negotiate directly with the

    processing

plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little

village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From

there you can direct your huge enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

    "And after that?"

"Afterwards? That's when it gets really interesting," answered the

American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start

    selling stocks and make millions!"

    "Millions? Really? And after that?"

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the

coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta,

and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends!"

  5. (this is going to sound crazy :o) I actually don’t mind cleaning – in the west I’ve been known to go into my own little world and scrub the house from top to bottom. I especially find doing the dishes therapeutic – not sure if it’s the running of the water, the scrubbing action or the cathartic experience of cleansing :D:D.

I have read quite a few of your posts and I think you are a nice person. Is there any chance you are 3 foot tall with a flat head as then it sounds like you would be perfect.. the dishes are stacked and the kettle is on, see you in 15 minutes :D

  6. one was bought by my father in the late 30s,an indian was drunk and shot himself, and the other was a gift to him from my great aunt, her husband had internal cancer and could no longer stand the pain and shot himself in the mouth.

Well, that proves the saying "Never give a gun to a dead Indian."

    :o funny!

  7. Malaysia Hotel - good views, mini bar, sexy girl on the desk and about 600 baht - 5 minutes to the Embassy and located near the sea

600 baht is much less than they used to ask (about 900 as I recall) and front desk sounds much better (distinctly unhelpful on my several times of asking for rates). Located near the sea? It's an island. :D

:o yes it is an Island :D

Ok Lopburi3, It might be around that price. To be honest I just pay whatever is asked, but I knew it was cheap.

The desk lady is a looker, but she has a red dot on the middle of her eyebrows. When I was looking at her, I felt like getting a tissue out and having a wipe :D

  8. im guessing that Kevin, Pepe and mag are from the good old US of A.

any of you guys ever had the need to use the gun in self defence?

ie. someone breaking into your home?

and if so did "ya waste the mutha?" :o

    yes, spot on!

I understand the local government guys i.e. Pooyai and Kamnaan are also not allowed to carry a gun now as this law was passed not that long ago.

Guns are very easy to buy here, a friend of mine (farang), bought a 44 off of the local cop for 40,000 baht. Silly idea I must say!

  9. After a long night of making love, a man notices a photo of another man on

her night stand by the bed. He begins to worry.

"Is this your husband?" he nervously asks.

"No, silly," she replies, snuggling up to him.

    "Your boyfriend, then?" he continues.

"No, not at all," she says, nibbling away at his ear.

"Is it your dad or your brother?" he inquires, hoping to be reassured.

    "No, no, no!!!" she answers.

"Well, who in the ###### is he, then?" he demands.

    "That's me before the surgery."

  10. I smoked for 18 years , when I gave up last September I was smoking 50 a day.To say the least I was in a bad way.

I found the number of an English Hypnotist in Pattaya ,the best 2500 baht I ever spent.

Never smoked or stressed about it since and I've even stopped coughing up fried eggs in the morning

If anyone wants his number , pm me and I will gladly pass it on. :o

I PMd you and am waiting/smoking for the reply :D . Thanks in Advance.

  11. I have really enjoyed this thread, thanks all for your thoughts and experiences.

I have been thinking about moving even more rural myself as I have been in southern Thailand for about 5 years, but the city spread is near now.

I recently bought 1 Rai on a beach, within 30 minutes by boat to Krabi. The land is beautiful, the people seem great and the silence is welcome, I just hope I can handle the "on your own" feel.

I imagine the first realisation would be that there is no farangs to talk to. I will try and build over there this year and do trial weeks and see how I go. I hope it works out as the dream of it is exciting!
