I switched to Uber a few months ago, and never looked back. It's a few more dollars, but the drivers are polite, have a cold bottle of water waiting, you order it up on your smart phone and can see the car moving toward you so no waiting in the street flagging rude drivers down, and it's a nice clean black Camery with black windows.
just checked, according to the quote they give on the website its about 4-5 times the price of a normal taxi to get from Thonglor to the airport...
You are correct, just checked, about 4x more from Thong Lor... to the airport. That must be a flat fee, because I just checked from Thong Lor to Mega Bangna mall (which is around the same trip) and it's only 300BHT. Pattaya is 3,000BHT. So test a few more estimates so you can see the whole picture. Cheers...

I took my girlfriend of 6 years to the states last year, we had a great time. She loved it, and it opened her mind to life outside of Thailand. All and all, I think it was a great experience for her and helped her to grow as traveling does. I bought her the ticket, she applied at the US Embassy and she was approved for a 10 year visa. Nothing special about it. The staff at the embassy have a good eye for the right and wrong kinds of applicants. If you guys have a genuine agenda, hotels booked, etc... it shouldn't be an issue. My girl does not own property, owns a car, has very little in her bank account, and has an office job as a sales manager. She's fluent in English, and and is really lovely. With all that said, I don't know you or your girl and I guess you are going to see very soon what kind of taste you have.

Knee jerk reactions don't help any situation. There needs to be more security in all tourist areas, and tourist need to avoid drugs and other things that only lead to trouble.

I want to apply for a photographers job at the police department in Pattaya so I can take pictures like this... I could spend hours in post processing and never find a dull moment.

Maybe you should try Laos... cost of living in Thailand has been going up over the last 7 years I have been here. 8,000 is a tight budget, that is roughly 20,000BHT per month. A lot of Thais live on that, but they live at home or have family support and you are not Thai. You can find a simple room for 5,000BHT per month, which leaves 15,000BHT for the rest, and thats tight unless you like Mama Noodles 3 times a day and no booz. If you can muster 50,000BHT per month, which is around 19,000USD, then you would have some breathing room and not loose your mind. You have to have some quality of life, otherwise...whats the point?

For good sake, he's 93 years old, stop talking about all this ww2. Hunting old people. He's properly already on the way to the die.
There is no time limit for the atrocities that were committed during WW2 by the Nazi party. It's a shame they didn't find out sooner, but at the same time, he had to live with his actions all these years.
Either you have no concept of history and or you were never touched by what happened then.
Keep teaching, never forget, every child should know, or history has a way of repeating itself.

What do the Americans need special security considerations for?
They've set themselves up as the ''worlds police force'' thus they should be able to contain any threats real or imaginary.
Could they be one of the most disliked races nowadays and therefore under threat at times?
Americans are not a race. In fact, America has one of the most diverse racial profiles of any country. America has whites, blacks, asians, etc.
Actually, The United States of America is the most diverse country in the world. Melting pot of melting pots. And Americans can refer to Canadians, Hondurans, Mexicans, etc... anyone from the Americas.

I have built a lot of public WIFI's in my time, and love all the concrete block here in Thailand.. it just kills the WIFI signal.
1. Move your WIFI router to a more central location in your house. The signal coming off it looks like a mushroom. You can always hire someone to run an ethernet cable for you so it's neat, or just buy a very long one and do it yourself.
2. Use Apple Airport Extreme devices and buy 2 of them...one Extreme and one Express. They are very easy to setup WIFI extending on and I have 4 of them in my office. So that is my solution of choice. I have LAN cable ran to various spots for the 4 access points.
3. Don't bother setting up a repeater/express unless it's hard wired to your LAN
Good luck

Ummm.. if you have a debt, the creditor rarely lets you just walk away. Pay your bill... and the annoyance will go away.

Ask anyone in Hong Kong what tourism from the mainland has done to their city... it's not a good thing.

One detail to keep in mind: Keep your stress levels low, so your body can fight off the cancer cells. Building a house, STRESSFUL and not good for your fragile health. I would do what you can to just be peaceful ... Good Luck with everything.

This is video of her she is very cute and alluring
I watched the video and just being realistic with you, she's very common, and she's scamming you. If you hire a Private Dick, he will just take a 10% cut of the 30,000 to say she is being honest with you. She's in the middle of a scam, she might not bite onto another profile page at the moment.
You should just ignore her moving forward and have fun with unencumbered women.

Do you really think they would smash an iPhone? lol
I'm so sorry mate, but you have been bamboozled. It's time to hit the spam button and stop looking for love in all the wrong places. If you would like to meet someone in Thailand, then you need to come and live here and then, you should stay single the first year at minimum so you can get a feel for things here.
Do not send the money, Do not believe her, Do not pass go
Good Luck...

As far as I would advise you. Do not move to Thailand and hope for a "hail marry" or long shot to success. This is not the place you want to move to and make a lot of major commitments up front.
Thailand is the kind of place you come with a solid plan or expat contract procured in your home country, and a backup plan, and a backup to that plan. Enough money to fight your way through all your plans.
Do not make any long term commitments to this girl, you don't know her well enough.
You are making all the common mistakes people make when moving to Thailand, sorry.
Take a big step backwards, consider your age, consider what you want to accomplish financially. Take the girl out of the equation. Use excel and plot out all your opportunities. I think you will find that you are not going to build up a retirement in Thailand. You come to Thailand to retire when you make your money elsewhere.
I'm not judging, but this is the kind of dilemma that a 20 something should have, not a 40 something.

At Pantip, there is a shop called Jedi and they are very reliable. Tell them you want a silent PC and look at their water cooling systems, which cost the same or less than fan cooling systems these days. Also, there is a brand of fans called "Noctua" and they are dead silent, but hard to find in Thailand, I have them shipped over via EMS. Also, there is noise dampening material that you can put into your PC to absorb noise if you wanna go nuts =)

1. Criminal Activity and Paying Salary are two separate issues that you can not combine. If someone goes to work for you, you must pay them as per Thai labor laws. You can easily find details about Thai labor law on google. Make sure you read it in detail and educate yourself. I also recommend you find a solid HR attorney who manages all your hiring and firing. You should take a deposit from anyone who handles cash. So to answer you question, you must pay your staff for days worked, even if they stole from you. If not, then that person has the right to go see their local labor officer and they can pursue a case against you. The labor officer will tell you that you must pay, and can pursue in the criminal court about the theft.
2. If someone stole from you, and you have it on CCTV, you can go to your local police department and see what they say. I suggest you make a example of someone so that your other staff know you mean business.
