  1. Another 'tourist' finding his demise in sin city. I guess it makes headlines... Lucky I suppose one of the bar fly's did not end up the same way. Who knows what went down, it's all speculation - could simply be he didn't pay for a girl and she returned with her Thai pimp/boyfriend who exacted revenge. Was there no balcony?

one thing in the OP i find little strange is that he was bleeding from eyes, strangled people do not bleed from eyes

Wrong. If you are not up to speed with what you are talking about then a quick google search will surfice and you will learn that bloodshot eyes [ subconjunctival hemorrhages ] is one of the main syptoms of strangulation.

blood shot eyes not bleeding from the eyes. I guess you missed that class at special investigation school.

It actually says "...Blood was coming from his eyes and nose.." Hardly bloodshot when blood is coming out from the eyes. I guess you missed the reading class.

  2. I don't know the signs are annoying, but it seems that Thai's are a lot better at removing them after elections then American politicians. I'm always tempted to slip the vegetable sellers on the street a couple hundred baht so I can chuck veggies at the guys in their trucks blasting politico campaign drivel at 800 decibels That's more annoying to me then the signs.

I don't agree with wasting good food. But rotten food scraps I think would be a marvelous weapon.

  3. "The proposal was raised out of concerns that squat toilets are to blame for a rise in osteoarthritis of the knee among Thais."

I would have thought the opposite. How many westerners can actually squat at all after the age of 25?

Ok, so for hundreds, if not thousands, of years the Thais have used squat toilets but it is only in the past 25 years that they have caused an increase in knee problems? Why would that be the case?

Mind you I don't like the squats and neither do many Thais I know but the point about knees is rather a weak rationalisation

  4. With some minor exceptions, there really is no such thing as a fully refundable ticket. There are always fees. What most people do not realize is that there are many different classes of economy fares and each have their own different fare rules (terms and conditions). AND not only do they vary from airline to airline, they can vary on the same airline depending on route or season or whatever. Consistency and logic is something you should never ever assume when it comes to airfares. As people have said before, a fully refundable fare WILL be expense. Possibly more expensive than a last minute booking.

Seriously, if you are a bit uncertain if you will be returning by air, DO NOT BOOK that sector. Even if there is a refund to be paid it will take from many weeks to many months (depending on airline) to process plus there will be a cancellation fee to be paid.

You would be better off not booking the return until you are 100% certain that you will be travelling.

  5. There are some leg/foot movement exercises you can do in your seat which are helpful. I recall Jetstar ( a Qantas subsidiary) shows a video on how to do these at the start of every long-haul flight.

Personally I prefer the aisle seat so it is easy to get up and go fro a stroll around the cabin once or twice during the 8 hour flight from Melbourne to Bangkok. Another favorite of mine is to stand at the rear exit doors and do some squats and stretches. And then stand around there for 5 or 10 minutes. By the way, the rear toilets get far less use than the centre toilets. People are basically dense and seem to forget they are there because they seem to be only recognize a toilet if it is to the front of them. On an Airbus, rows 50 and higher are the best.

  6. If prostitution is illegal why do millions of people in every country sell their bodies and minds to their bosses? Have you ever thought that working any job is prostitution? It amuses me that people who work 8 hours a day at a pathetic rate of pay get upset and indignant about people who their genitals in their work and get a much higher rate per hour. The moral police are typically religious zealots who are far too interested in other peoples sex lives.

Err..well this post is about an Australian who died in Thailand and other posters are discussing the rate of deaths of Aussies here so i thought that chart was of interest.

It seems to suggest Thailand is a very dangerous place for the Aussie tourist, but my point is that Thailand is a place where Aussies are more likely to be a bigger danger to themselves

Actually, the most likely reason Thailand has the most number of Australian holiday deaths is because many more Australians holiday in Thailand than in any other country. I used to work in an Australian travel agent with offices in every state of Australia. Thailand was one of it's biggest sellers. And when I say Thailand, 95% of that would be Phuket.

  8. ..............<deleted> Thai people lets just have a little common sense, women like that should be sterlilised.

So let me get this straight. What you are saying is that if a Thai is so poor as to not be able to afford a car then they should be denied the right of a form of personal transport? Why should they be sterilised? They know and accept the risks. Why should British standards be applied to a country that is willing to accept different standards? It disturbs me that so many people on this forum want to impose their own view of the world onto other people. Diversity and tolerance are what we should be concerned about people.

  9. Just a question - if you were to be accused of damaging jet ski. Could you just contact your travel insurance company. Most have public liability insurance?

I think that would make it difficult for the operators and the police to divide up money at the ATM.

An interesting response and one I have seen many times. It seems that unless there is a huge overhaul in the conduct of the police by an "ethical standards" bust then nothing will ever change. And the likelihood of that happening any time soon is incredibly low.

  10. Much of the pollution comes from street vendors lighting fires all over Bangkok. Banning these would be a good start. Also ban all polluting vehicles. In fact, take them of the road and crush them.

<deleted>? Are you serious? You would destroy the things that make Thailand unique just to get a few more cars on the road? Ban the polluting cars and trucks and let the peasants continue to make a living while serving the needs of the city.
