  1. Can anyone give the times of the English language news bulletins on TV. I can never remember and I'd quite like to see them today.

I heard something about a coup, I'm sure it's not true though.

    Thanks

  2. Sympathetic to the plight of the Thais, The British Embassy Bangkok is to throw open its doors today and hold a garden party for all Thais and Foreigners alike. Staff have been sent on emergency courses on being polite and courtious and visas to the UK will be issued on demand .

    That is funny.... :o

  3. You do have a DVD burner! Why you don't burn your music files, I thinks it's MP3, to DVD's and free up a lot of space? Even all data you need rarly you should burn to DVD! We using DVD-RW in our company and that works very well: never out of space!!

Because I like to have my music immediately available through my media player

  4. http://dl.tvunetworks.com/TVUPlayer.zip

    Have installed this programme....

Channel 10100 CNN is running updates every 10-20 minutes about the coup.. this seems quite a good source.

Never been able to work out how to get the channels to play in this software, any advice, please?

    had problems at first too....

it is fairly simple though, install and click on the channel you want (10100 is good) wait a bit (depends on your connection speed I guess) and it'll play for you.

  5. been here 3 weeks and i see the first coup d'eìtat in my entire life. should have stayed in vietnam where its safe.

actually its the people getting pissed off and start rioting that Im worried about. there might be robberies, rapes...hel_l break loose

I feel much better now. thanks.

    Let's keep positive?

  6. When I looked at my computer earlier today I had about 8gigs of free space on my D drive, now I only have 2 gigs (according to the my computer screen) however if I select all on the drive (including hidden files) and check the properties it tells me I have 10 gigs free (64.5 of 74.5 used). I that weren't strange enough i have done little more than check the internet today and certainly not moved around that much data.

Upon further inspection I find that all of my drives are showing the same anomally (spelling?) and I am 'missing' about 20 gigs of drive space. I have emptied the Norton protected recycle bin. I can't work it out at all.. what am I missing???

    Any advice gratefully received...

If it is true, you really have more than 70 GByte in your My Documents as data files? May there's a lot of rubbish which need to clean out!

Not forget to change the attributes from hidden and read only files. Also go to => Tools => Folder Options => View and check: Show Hidden Files and Folders and un-check: Hide protected Operating System Files in Windows Explorer. May be you also need to restart your comp in Safe Mopde to delete some files!

After deleting, run defrag to clarify the hdd.

    Yup,

I have about 60 gigs of music for a start...

Did what you said and found the following files which I hadn't seen before.. (screen shot attached) when I right clicked it gave me the option of purging files from all drives and I have all my space back....

    Thank you very much.

What is strange however is that emptying the Norton protected recycle bin in the normal way didn't do this... an error or user stupidity?

  7. I see that your user folders are blue, what normally indicates that you are using a compression. With the file system compression switched on, MS Windows can only “guess” how much free space you have, a 1MB jpg file will compress much less then a 1MB MS Word file.

That it definitely true, however; I have also lost about 5 gigs on my C drive through the same problem and that drive is not compressed....

  8. Dear ianpants69,

    How are you?

I don’t know whether this is the answer but it might work. Run what is called scandisk:-

Open My computer from the desktop.

Right click the drive you are concerned about and click on properties

One of the tabs is tools, click on that, and then click “check now”.

The system will then run scandisk. It might have to run after a restart so allow that so save any work before running the scandisk.

If that is not the answer I doubt if I can help, but if you report the results I will check the thread.

    Hope you are keeping well,

    All the Best

    Bill Z

    Hi,

done that, it took a while so it must have done some good and did free a coule of hundred megs but not all the missing space.

    thanks

  10. I am seeking a slightly unusual tool (I think)

My PC is used as a multimedia centre and I therefore take advantage of the dual monitor feature which allows me to continue working whilst playing movies on the secondary monitor, using my TV as a second monitor. After rearranging my house I am no longer able to see the TV whilst sitting at my PC and my radio mouse isn't powerful enough to allow me to use it in front of the TV.

I am trying to find a tool which will allow me either to toggle between clone and dual monitor setup (allowing me to configure applications which appear on the second monitor on the primary monitor i.e. switch to clone mode, start a video playing and toggle back to dual mode, [leaving the video playing on the secondary screen and my usual desktop on the primary screen]).

Alternatively I wonder if there is a programme which will give me a live screen shot of the secondary monitor on the primary monitor (which would enable me to configure the programmes on the secondary monitor without being able to see it)

    Any other solutions most welcome...

    Many thanks

  11. As with most things, Thailand is a joke when it comes to "checking" things...

As we know, the immigration blacklist was not updated for the last 3 years !

Can you imagine something like that ?

You add people to a list but no one cares about the execution of this since the list is outdated, people who should have been removed are still on the list and new people can still enter the kingdom...

I always said that the country is like some Mickey Mouse community because of the lack of things like good justice, good working immigration department, the way that tourists are treated (walking ATM machines) will not make the country more appealing as we all can see in the numbers of tourists visiting the country.

If nothing changes, the country will never come out of its 3rd world status, too bad for the people that are honest (I know, very, veryyyyyy few but ok...)

Sounds like you have never been to the 3rd world. If you had you would know the difference between it and Thailand. Best for you (and Thailand) would be if you returned to your 1st world, wherever that may be.

The arrogance of some farangs in this forum is really starting to piss me off. Remember, you are the foreigners here. They didn't ask you to come and they don't waste a tear drop if you leave.

Yes, you are quite right - with one ambulance for every 165,000 people in Bangkok compared to 1:10,000 in the west and an average per capita income of 7,015 baht per month with 49% of the population working in agriculture Thailand is demonstrably not the third world.

I am sure your Thailand is not the third world with your air-con, computer, big car and high-rise apartment.

They did ask us to come, at least those of us doing jobs on the 'falang can-do' list, perhaps not pompous idiots like you who can't see the truth through the haze of beer Chang and bar-girls.

Does Thailand benefit by people tearing it apart at every possible moment? I doubt it. It can hardly be any better for all those people who refuse to see that the place has a long way to go and that it is the people at the bottom of the pile getting shafted.

Who made you protector of the Thai people? If you were, refusing to see what is right in front of you would hardly help them.

  12. Does he follow Muslim beliefs? It seems odd that he would go to southern Thailand when most governments advise people to avoid the area.

Good point, if I had just clubbed my family to death and was preparing to go on the run I would definitely check the latest travel advice on the British Embassy in Bangkok's website.

He may be a muslim, but at least he is from the same planet as the rest of us. What are you thinking? Clearly people on your planet are buddhist or why else are you in Thailand?

  13. Doubtful any real retribution will befall the Thais involved. They're so quick with excuses, and the Thai legal system is so quick to pardon anyone important. We hear much about corrupt and lacksadasical police in Samui - when will we see some effective cleaning up in that dept? Note; the special police teams were brought in from outside the island.

    ===============================================================

Brahmburgers: how excellent to see the use of the word "lacksadasical" ! ! I so enjoy to discover the fact that there are still people in this world who actually use the english language properly and to it's fullest extent ! !

By the way; the true gleaning & cleaning of the widely published land-fraud situations in places like Phuket, Samui, Koh Chang, Koh Tao et all, is well over-due and I for one, am happy that things are being actually being done !

    :o

    English is always capitalized.

  14. I understand that movies can be downloaded from the internet for a fee from commercial websites. I presume this means downloading on to the hard drive then a cable connection from the laptop to a tv set to view. I get the impression that the download time for a 2 hour movie is quite long requiring an overnite arrangement depending on processor speed and ISP bandwidth, is this correct? Is any special software required?...to be downloaded from the movie website? I run Windows XP(Home).

I got a 1.2ghz processor, 512/256 RAM and 80gbyte HDD and using the thaivisa bandwidth measurement feature get about 65 kbyte/sec download speed with my ISP. What does this indicate in terms of what to expect when downloading a 2 hour movie? I also got a DVD/RW so if I wanted to put the movie on DVD am I limited to 80 movie minutes per DVD when using a standard '700mb/80 min' blank CD-R?

The laptop has a trapeziodally shaped connection port with pin holes for a tv connection. Any special nomenclature when looking for a cable? I presume this connects to the tv connections for video and audio just like for a CD player.

Finally, any recommendations regarding a good movie download website? I'm into foreign(non Hollywood) and classic cinema films, aka 'art house' stuff.

    thanx a bunch...

Why not use one of the many free movie/music download sites?

  15. The dreaded visa-run is upon me again and i don't think I can face Aranya again. Can anyone tell me how to get to Pong Nam Rong and what the craic is for doing a visa-run there? any info gratefully recieved, bus station, prices, times etc...

    Many thanks

  16. I have been using a True phone line and True internet, but am not satisfied with true and wanna use a different high-speed interent provider, which seems to mean a change of phone company as well. I have found a number of better/cheaper internet providers but all require a TOT phone line which apparently I will have to wait for up to a year to get.

Are there any other phone companies than TOT/True? Are there any other internet companies which can provide high-speed over a True phone line???

    Many thanks

  17. I have just read one of his books and have decided that William Warren would be a fascinating man to talk to. Does anyone know if he still lives in Bangkok?

  18. Hi, welcome to Bangkok, and to the forum. I hope you like Bangkok and everything goes well for you.

I hope you meet lots of other Filipinas/ Filipinos. Aren't there any in the Phillipines?

So, why are you here? I hope you're not a teacher.

    Are you a racist alleycat?
