  1. Hi all,

am holidaying in Chaing Mai with my mother at the moment and today she had a load of stuff lifted from her bag today...including our train tickets to Bkk and her plane tickets back to England on friday. she was due to fly with Thai airways, I have been looking on the web and cannot find any numbers that work for Thai airways or any references to lost / stolen tickets on their website... any ideas?????

    Thanks all

  2. ITS A LITTLE SAD HOW PEOPLE LIVE IN PATTAYA ARE MURDERING, MOLESTING AND EVEN KILLING THEMSELVES... PATHETIC ... IT IS EVIDENCE THAT A BELT COULD HAVE KILLED THIS AMERICAN. THE MAN COULD HAVE STRUGGLED AND WENT UNCONSCIOUS AFTER HANGING HIMSELF, WHEN THE BELT WENT LOOSE...NEVER KNOW...CRAZY THINGS HAPPEN... THERE ARE MANY POSSIBILITIES FOR THE REASON OF HIS DEATH

People in Pattaya are murdering and molesting themselves?!

    LOL

  3. Hello all,

    perhaps someone can help ....

I am fitting a water heater and the condo already has the wiring and fuse installed for it so i just have to connect it.

I have two white wires and one black... am I safe to assume that the white wire is earth as they don't seem to differentiate between live and neutral?

This is not the green/blue/brown I am familiar with... can anyone help?

  4. Why  dont  you  go  on  a  bus  trip  where  they  pick  the  cambo  visa  up  this  side  of  the  border  and  its  all  included  in  the  price? Just  curious.

Because the visa charge in Bangkok is only 20 USD (@800 Baht) at the border it costs 1000 Baht, I take the coach from MoChit (which I think is 180 baht each way).

So with bribes and tuk tuks included it costs about 1500 Baht all in, and no I am not that tight, it is simply that my wife and I both have to cross the border so doing it this way saves about 1000 Baht each time.

    Now you know....

  5. I went today to the Cambodian embassy to pick up my visa for my monthly jump over the border. As of today the embassy is charging 25 USD / 1500 THB for one day service (issue of 30 days visa) and the usual 20 USD / 1000 THB but for three days service....

Thought this might be worth knowing...

  6. Surely this site contradicts the view stated above?

I take legal alien to mean, someone with a valid visa?

The problem with the hill tribe people is they have no documents, Thai or otherwise, and therefore are illegal!!

My interpretation is: Children of permanent residents can get Thai citizenship. Children of non-immigrant visa holders can't.

From that website, the only way to interpret anything with accuracy is have agreement on what 'legal alien' means.. As it stands, that says to me that ANYONE non-Thai here legally who fits into #11 or #12 (both legal aliens), can have their kid be a Thai citizen, including those with status lower than Permanent Residence Permit holder. That is the case with many of the Burmese and hilltribe folks here now already, as I understand the situation, and I don't see any stated exclusion for farangs, so I would surmise that the answer to the OP's question is yes.

But, I'm wondering why would they want a Thai passport? Just a souvenir? Unless they come from a poorer country than Thailand, why would they want their baby to be Thai, rather than the shared nationality of its parents?

Because the child cannot always hold both of the parents nationalities and having a Thai passport (for the children of long term expatriates) will mean they don't have to be crossing the border yearly or more, also presumably it would open the door to purchasing land etc...

  7. My wife and I had our first child here and she has British nationality from me (my wife is Indonesian). The birth certificate issued at the Ampur office states in Thai at the top 'child of non-residents / illegal aliens' (or something to that effect) 'not eligable for Thai nationality'. However, according to the Thai nationality act, a child born in Thailand to two aliens is eligable for nationality. I don't have the link but all this is shown on one of the Thai embassy in America websites, oh look it is up there.

So at the moment our daughter has a British passport, she has never left Thailand and therefore can stay indefinitely, having left Thailand for the first time she then needs a visa just like everyone else (visa on entry or pre-arranged) BUT according to the information I've got through this site there is a way around the visa requirement - The immigration authorities waive the over-stay fines for over-stayers under the age of seven years old so in theory she only ever needs to get a visa on entry. Then can stay as long as needs be, it is worth remembering though that that would mean she was in the country illegally.

    Any help or no?

  8. Dear all,

thanks for the advice (especially the one about Sukhumvit soi 4 that was particularly helpful... are you a samaritan?)

I am most interested in CSB (community services bangkok) however all of the information is out of date, phone numbers etc... does anyone know if they are still there?

  9. While watching 'Meet the Fockers' (which is awful) my wife and I were introduced to 'baby signing', which I assumed was a joke. Having had a look on the internet it turns out that this is real. Amazon has loads of books on this but what I want to know is if anyone has come across any books on this topic for sale in Bangkok.

I would also love to hear if anyone has any experiences with this.

I would love it if anyone could point me in the right direction as I am sure our 1 year old has lots she would love to say

  10. Dear all,

I have just re-read my post and understand the confusion, clearly i was drunk when I wrote it.

THIS is what we were told..... that an onward ticket is insufficient for issuing a visa on entry. Visas on entry are only issued to those who have return tickets.

and no strangly we have never heard about this at Poi Pet / Aranya

  11. I have lived in Bkk for several years with my wife, managing to stay on a combination of work permits and visa runs to Cambodia.

Over Songkran we are planning a jaunt to singapore and Chaing Mai before returning to Bkk. My wife wanted to be sure that we had our facts about visas straight and when she checked was told that in order to obtain visas on entry we must have not only onward tickets but return tickets to the place from whence we came (in this case it'll be Singapore).

We were told the same thing by both the Indonesian Embassy (my wife is Indonesian) and the Immigration in Suan Plu, we were told this would apply to both of us (I am British)

A little confused especially that tickets cannot simply be onward (what do all the travelers passing through do???)

    PUZZLED - any offers???????

  12. I can confirm it----many times over-----

My 3 year old was born in Thailand of foreign parents. On his first exit from Thailand, I had to take my birth certificate with us. They notate numbers from the birth certificate in the passport. (They did the same for my 1 year old).

When he came back, he always got a 30 day stamp and he only crossed back out every 60 to 90 days. When he would cross out, they sent us to a special office(Da Nok/Sadao and Padang Besar crossings)  where they notated in his passport that he exited without a fine because he was underage, early notations mentioned 7 years of age, later ones said 14 years of age.

My son has about 7 or 8 notations like that in his passport.......

Thankyou, would you have any idea where I could get the official line on this in writing?

  13. There's only one legal cable TV provider in BKK, which is UBC.  They have three packages, discussed in another thread.

The other alternative is to get a satellite feed and free satellite TV.  You get a lot of different languages, but the quality of the programming varies.

how do I go about getting a satellite feed?

  14. I am wanting to get high speed internet installed at my home but am unable to choose a company, mainly thanks to the lack of information in English.

    Can anyone make any suggestions?

    Thanks

  15. My wife is not Thai and we cannot get a Thai passport for my daughter.

I am still unclear on the overstay for under sevens situation, although many people have said this is true; immigration in Bangkok have failed to reply to my question about this and the Thai Consulate in Cardiff made the following comment: "Not aware of any exclusions from visa for children under seven".

Does anyone know where I can get written conformation of this no-overstay for kids thing????

    Many thanks

  16. My daughter was born in Thailand and holds a British passport, as yet unstamped becacuse she has never left the country. We will visit England and return in April.

I have been told that youngsters under 7 years old only need to get a visa on entry and then can stay as long as is needed as overstay is not charged for them.

Can anyone confirm/deny/make any useful suggestions?

    many thanks

    Ian

I await further education oh Ajarn Taxexile
