I am a student of one of Bangkok's many private universities, studying on their international programme. I am unhappy at my current university for a number of reasons. I am hoping to transfer else where before too long BUT.......
As I am sure you are all aware there are loads of universities in Bangkok to choose from and for that reason I'd like to know what you think. Which is the best, which has the best international programme / location / reputation / cheapest fees etc....????
Please tell me about your own experiences or things you have heard from someone else. Much appreciated.....

I want to have a box of bits picked up from Phuket and delivered to me in Bangkok, can anyone recommend an agent? The box is about 70*50*40cm
and weighs no more than 15 kg.
So far I have been quoted 5000 baht + VAT, this is clearly a joke, can anyone do better?

Once again I find that I am having to move, and I haven't even learned my address yet!
I want to try and find something in the Thammasat University area, either that side or the other side of the river. Can anyone point me in the right direction or recommend a reliable agent? Thanks all....

Hi I lived in Phuket for sometime and used a bike for getting around. I found that the most reliable expatriate bike expert was a Scottish chap by the name of Scottie. He can be found at his Restaurant 'Somtam and Sandwiches' which is on the Chalong road heading towards Rawai, he also runs a work-shop there, he deals mainly with big bikes. He should be able to help, you can't miss him, very pleasant guy with one leg missing.

cheers, it is just the same as this web-site with slightly less mention of girls!

Well that is what my we were told but considering the costs involved I wouldn't just take my word for it.
I am surprized no-one else has chipped in on this one.

well am here in lovely George Town, took a taxi from the airport... 28 RM to Lebih Chulia, no sign of any buses, a policeman told me there weren't any.

Am in Penang again and tried to apply for a NON B multiple entry (1 year) which I got last time with no worries. Apparently they are now only issuing them to those who already have a work permit.

I live in Bangkok with my wife and daughter and although I believe that Bangkok is a good environment in terms of the lack of violence and freedom of movement the main thing that concerns me as my daughter approaches school age is the very poor quality of education here.
I am a teacher and have first hand experience of just how bad even some of the private 'bi-lingual schools' are, curriculums don't exist, copying is encouraged rote learning is normal and I have seen many instances of what would only be described as severe child abuse in the west.
We will be leaving Thailand in order that my daughter can go to school in Singapore when she is old enough, does anyone have any suggestions on that front?

well my wife, baby and I 'ran' yesterday using the train both ways. Although it makes for a longer day than doing the trip by bus it was a far more pleasant day, watching the country side go by and being able to move around a bit. We remembered to take some cusions and towels so we were pretty comfortable, I even managed a couple of hours sleep lying on one of the seats.
While my wife went across the border I had a wander around Aranya Prathet, which much to my amazment seemed rather nice, very clean and quiet. There are even a few western-style hotels and restaurants there so we will probably stay over night next time we go to break up the journey and get out of Bangkok for a bit.
On the way back we used the underground from Hualampung to Silom which was very impressive.

Probably lackadaisical attitudes such as that that prevent progress in Thailand.
'That's just the way it is' ....... well done mate

I am a student at one of Bangkok's many private universities. On arrival to my lectures today I was shepparded into an area full of other confused students and handed a small plastic beaker and frog-marched to the bathroom.
The samples were them tested (with what looked like a pregnancy test) for drugs. Interestingly none of the local students though this at all strange, personally I was thinking more along the lines of invasion of privacy, human rights etc......
Can anyone shed any light on the dubious legallity of this event especially as there weren't any members of the police force present?

Without a marriage certificate you are stuck however registering a marriage as 2 aliens in Thailand is not all that difficult although a little costly. Having the marriage certificate would enable you to get a 'Type O' for your wife as you have a work permit. I believe that being married also makes register the birth easier both in Thailand and at the embassy. The child will also be eligable for Thai citizenship.
hope that helps a bit

'unhappy' is perhaps the wrong word.
frankly I am dubious about the quality of the programme and the manner in which it is taught. I am also faced with difficulties related to housing as I am married with a child and the university will not allow me to stay in the university housing. There is no other suitable accomodation in the area.
