Thought we were allowed to press like buttons now?!

Aren't you exaggerating a bit? Most businesses in Pattaya are pretty honest and the major problem is transport (and jetskis).
Edit: Was referring to post #139.

This shit goes on and on,the taxi drivers in Patia are without a doubt just a bunch of lazy pricks, corrupt to the bone and we all know it.Ok but why should a stranger be treated like this? Not everyone would know that the taxi is illegal.Answer me one question. How many taxi drivers in Patia are legal.??I can answer for you one and all.NONE.Its the farangs that keep the lazy pricks called Taxi drivers in business, without us they would all be on the breadline,so dont hide and back these dirty scumbags up they are what we all know they are shithouses.Cowards, drunkards, and women beaters .But as per usual never alone, thai way, a group that will attack and beat up old defensless pensioners without a second glance. The quicker Thailand realises this the better this country will be without these lazy cowards, they are number one that gives this nice country the bad name ALWAYS.
Your post will probably get deleted for language but I do understand your frustration. Do yourself a favour and install the app. Word will spread quickly (did already and I do my part) and the thugs will be out of business in less than a year. Mafia taxis are already driving around empty >90% of the time. Don't think they can handle much more.

VAT really is a tax on the poor and as such, there should be at least some 0% rate for basic necessities. Charging VAT on pharmaceuticals for example (like in Germany) seems criminal to me.
-
2 different rates of VAT rates is practiced in most countries that have VAT. In Australia its 10%/0%, in Germany it's 19%/7% etc.
-
Mmmh? VAT is usually on top of the price. So if you want to sell your 100 Baht product, you'd have to sell it for 110 Baht. The final price will include 10 Baht VAT which is around 9.1%.
-
How about raising the rate to 10% and exempting basic foodstuffs (but not processed crap)?
-
That's another 6 years then. Silly project, really. Why not have the traffic southbound on the 2 very left lanes go through all the time? Adding another 2 lanes would do so much to ease the congestion. Traffic is already a nightmare on Pattaya Tai and Theppasit intersections, so what is the need? Traffic will just keep piling up elsewhere.
-
Isn't the official rate 10% anyway and it just gets cut every year to 7% for some mysterious reason?
-
Democracy will never work if people sell their votes for a measly 500 Baht. It's not like a lot of people are going to bed hungry in this country. Merely shows that a lot of people don't care about the fate of it.

will the cheap phones be able to be a WiFi hub ? at least in the USA many are hard blocked inside the phone ,
And do they need to be Android ? Some of the cheap "dumb" phones do not even have that !
Just get some random China/India Android device and don't worry about all that. Or better yet, get a proper Mifi device instead of a phone. Works for days straight without being charged. If you only use 4G on 1 computer, some USB stick will do. About 700 Baht?

If you don't need the calls element, it's 450 baht + VAT for the 4Mbps unlimited package.
Wow... sounds like an awesome deal. Will try to activate this today.
VAT being added sounds like a postpaid deal though? I hope not.

What's with all the resistance? Five years from now, taxis will be driverless anyway.
-
I don't know how the American system works but in Europe you get your pension payments monthly and not as a lump sum when you retire. Would be silly not to spend it all if you got health insurance. In the end, you can't take anything with you and leaving a condo/house/car/other material stuff for the kids/partner would be enough IMO. But this is just my opinion. If I was old and had spare money, I'd give it to the kids/partner right away. There's no interest anymore, so saving up will only give you an extra risk.

If the fee is reasonable, then why not.

Thanks a lot for this post. Didn't know about this tariff and kept topping up my phone with 399 for 10 GB every couple of days. 4 Mbps is more than enough to stream Youtube.

I think they only show you the 5-6 vehicles closest to you?
At night it takes much longer getting a ride, but I got one after 12 am, so yes, they seem to be operational at night.
-
I don't have a problem with anyone having 6-8 beers during happy hour and going back to their soi quietly after. But just yesterday I witnessed a probably deadly accident in Soi New Plaza with some pisshead speeding over the speed bumps and wrapping someone under his truck. So don't drink too much, especially if you go around in your car.

No reason drive around drunk anymore. Uber providing an excellent service (never been asked for tips) and most trips end up being 5 Baht because of the 70 Baht discount for your first 10 rides. Seems Grab also lowered the mafia fares so apart from bodily injuries when driving drunk, why would you risk a 50,000 Baht fine (up from 20,000) just to save 1-2 dollars?

Afaik True's unlimited tariff is only 512 kbps... hardly congesting the network.
-
Can only speak for Pattaya, but AIS is overcrowded (due to the unlimited tariffs) and DTAC doesn't even work in some parts of Naklua. With True I always have 4G, usually up to 50 Mbps.
Of course, if staying in the sticks, AIS might be a better choice.

If you have acquaintances abroad and they are going to Thailand, get them to obtain one for you. I can buy a second hand 4G MiFi in the UK for as little as a tenner. Then you aren't locked down to just using a TRUE SIM.
But they do need to know exactly which model to purchase.
True SIM best SIM.

Don't know... been here for a long time and never got scammed in bars. The only time I got scammed was pretty openly in the whisky shop near the Shell service station. She shows me the calculator @ 1,597 Baht, I ask for a check bill because I wanted to know how much my buddy's beer was et voila, comes down to 1380 Baht. Pretty cheeky.
