  1. It's a battery charger. You take out your battery from your device and connect the two pins to the plus and minus. Apparently it matters which way but I never paid attention. These 150 Baht devices seem to charge any battery with any voltage... not quite sure how they do it but they do work.

    Apples and oranges,

Primarily we are comparing 2 different things here,  someone was complaining about the high per km cost Bangkok airways were for the distance to Samui, I just highlighted it was almost the same in cost and distance for Thai Airways to Phnom Pehn, so in comparison nothing in it.

If you want to talk about price though, you are quoting low cost fares against regular carriers, the clue is in the title 'Low cost' , you cant compare the cost as by their business model/basic service they choose to provide they are cheaper, its the whole point! Its no different from saying economy class is cheaper than business class.

Nothing wrong though in saying you are happy to accept a lower service at a cheaper price. The proof is in the pudding, I booked Air Asia from Bangkok to KL, by the time I added in all those extras that are included in regular carriers prices, there was absolutely no difference.

You also cant compare Thai Airways with Thai Smile, 2 different levels of service again, its a lower cost airline meant to bridge the gap between regular and low cost. I flew them to Hat Yai, seating was fine, meal basic at best.

BKK- PNH is operated by Thai Airways, or at least it was last Friday when I flew back, so wrong again. Not saying you didn't go with Smile (they stopped the service pretty quick) but you did not fly Thai Airways so how can you comment on that service?

I think you need to start your own thread, low cost carrier service vs regular carriers

Have you checked Bangkok Airways then? I flew with them in the new year period and the price was some 4,100 plus taxes (so 4,900 in total), I'm not sure your $200 quoted is a regular fare... well maybe it is on Thai Airways because they fill these seats with code shares anyway.

Based on a Thai airways super saver fare booked a month in advance. (return)

You cant compare low cost carriers with regular airlines, besides I guessing you are quoting one way there, cheapest ticket I can see on air asia a month in advance is over 5000 THB,

Cheaper on the bus I'm told :)

Of course I am talking one-way since the prices quoted for the Samui flights were also one-way.

Why can't I compare low cost carriers to regulars ones? Because I can get the same chicken sandwich for free instead of paying 100 Baht with Airasia but then again I have to fork out 2000 Baht more for the airfare?!

I ONCE flew Thai Aiways to Phnom Penh. It is not operated by THAI anymore but instead by their subsidiary THAI Smile. It was the worst flight I ever had. The spaces between the seats were like 10 cms less than AirAsia and had to sit sideways, it was that tiny.

Please give me your answer why I cannot compare the two, thanks.

Cheapest ticket on Thai airways to Phnom Pehn return is 200 USD, or approx 190 euro (the same ) and the distance is 540 km, or 1080 return (about the same)

So I dont understand the  comparison. Besides, its cheaper to go further so really the logic is flawed.

So how come they often have free flights with AirAsia (plus 700 Baht airport tax and luggage)? Your argument is invalid if you're only checking tomorrow's prices. The regular fare is around 1800-3000 Baht including tax.

  5. I cannot understand ANYONE here defending Bangkok Airways. They offer the EXACT SAME service as Airasia, same comfortable seats, mostly new planes (Airasia ones are actually newer and they don't use the propeller type). So what do you get?

A theoretical Airfare of 500-2000 Baht with Airasia (plus Luggage and seat selection, 400 Baht)

or a freaking 3,500-6000 Baht airfare with Bangkok Airways where the only real extra here is a free coke and a chicken sandwich on a 50 minute flight.

Anyone defending this has to be out their minds. It is simply a monopoly, greed and a rip-off... nothing "boutique" about this!

Just a reminder: In Europe, one hour flights are a fraction of the cost, often starting at 10 euros (370 Baht) including tax.

I believe the intent of the person that crashed the bike was to get it repaired hence he took it to Mityon however somehow the owner found out and went and collected the damaged scoot.

Must have missed that part. Can't he just go to some independent shop?

As for Koh Tao, this probably has to do with the island being so tiny and mafia-run. If I was a repair shop owner I wouldn't want to step on some renter-scammers foot or I might and up as fish bait.

Yeah the Rentee did not give it back to the Renter. Are your eyes painted on or did you not bother to read the posts by the OP ?

Sorry, English is not my native language and I mixed up your statement earlier containing "rentee" and "renter", my apologies.

So no problem then. Just repair it, bring it back, reimburse the shop for the lost rental time, stand your ground and get police involved if necessary. I doubt they take the renter's side and even if they do, the few Bath that need to be exchange are probably still a lot less then the standard scam repair.

They have standardized forms in many rental places and the listed replacement prices are outrageous. My friend scratched 2 bikes in Koh Phangan and had to pay 5,000 baht each time. The scratches were tiny and I doubt they had them even fixed for the 500-1000 Baht it would have cost them.

When I break some parts, I just have them done, no questions asked.

  8. Don't give it to back him before having it repaired in the first place. Hindsight, I know... just negotiate a deal now and try to be smarter next time.

Forget about insurance. Most places don't offer it and the ones that do still have some excess and the price difference is just not worth it, bikes and repairs being so cheap here.

  9. Yes, but certainly not 1,000 Baht. Go and check in your app if you have time.

And it's 700 with PT Taxi now stop moaning... "Next time I'll fly Bangkok Airways, pay three times the airfare and land in an airport 20 times the size and 1 hour further away" ...what a load of BS. You should support these Utapao flights or they'll get cancelled again.

NOBODY is forcing you to use the taxi mafia down there.

  10. Isn't the official price 600 Baht from UTP to downtown? In total, would be waaaaayyyy cheaper than Bangkok Airways, even without the taxi or bus from Suvarnabhumi... quicker as well. There is also A LOT of private taxi services in Pattaya that you can book and give them your flight number. I wouldn't bother with that minibus for such a short journey. It's not that cheap anyway.

  11. This is super annoying. It doesn't even help to switch off Adblock for this domain, the massage still appears. Now I got round to blocking that annoying face that keeps showing up every time but I still have to wait 15 seconds for any action. This is unacceptable. Code the site properly so it recognizes the Adblock-exception or don't show that bloody message.

Aren't you earning enough off advertorials, Lazada and Agoda links already anyway? I imagine the thousands of visitors must bring quite some revenue when you get a whopping 10 percent of the total price of any hotel booking made through you? I don't think showing flashy banners is really the way of the future.

If you don't fix this, I (and many others) will just stop coming.

  12. After spending most of my time in Thailand in typical tourist places, I started travelling the less beaten path. It is amazing: The people are so friendly, absolutely nobody is trying to cheat you (not even motorbike taxis?!), tip is not expected anywhere and you'll receive genuine smiles all around. And the people are so helpful.

The question is: Did the arrogant, demanding, drunk, shouting, disrespectful and downright rude way SOME tourists behave change the mentality of the people in these touristy places? Or was is the money-flashing and the carelessness about pricing that attracted the greedy (=bad) people?

I had an experience with a fellow countrymen the other day. All of us were finished with our dinners while still he had a bit left on his plate. He was engaged in conversation and the waitress came asking if he had finished eating. He turns around and goes: "Can't you see I'm not finished? What's wrong with you?" I really feel a lot of embarrassment when I see many tourists acting. I can see the locals using their face and just taking it in with an awkward smile. No wonder a lot of them hold a grudge.

Now remember before you answer: This thread is for farang-bashing. Use your Thai-bashing in 99% of the other threads.

  13. Isn't discussion of illegal activities forbidden in here?

Sure you can't expect your 800 Baht a month (illegal!) IPTV subscription to be a real competition to your local cable for ~$100 when they actually have to pay royalties. If you want to steal content, you might as well just torrent and not support your local content mafia.
