The live reggae caught my eye and I'm trying to understand just where this is. I guess the problem is mostly my unfamiliarity with details like Soi Made in Thailand. Any other clues? Or should I just go look at google maps?
CheersOpposite Tesco Lotus near Buakhao food market. It's rather small. Called Trench Town or something.
Edit: There you go

Yes, there is a nice little rock bar on top of Soi Made in Thailand at the corner of second road. At the other end of the soi, Buakhao side, there is a little bar that does live reggae.
Another good venue is Climax at the corner of Soi LK Metro and Buakhao.
And of course, there is always Rolling Live 3 on Soi 8 opposite Subway.

Do you mean that they had paid for their shopping in Central Festival with a credit card or checked out of their hotel with a credit card?
I wonder how they found out which hotel they were staying at? Perhaps they used a Thai card.
Their names will be in the immigration database so this could be matched to the credit card they paid with. Not too hard to work out. Amateur thieves... why not pay cash?!
I still would have tried to squeeze a bit of money out of the scumbags for my troubles getting new documents and to teach them a bit of a lesson.
Edit: So after cancelling her documents, op's daughter didn't really gain anything from the returned purse apart from the purse itself, right?

To anyone who still doesn't believe the system exists: Have a closer look at your plane ticket. For the past 12+ months it would include some "Advance passenger screening fee" or something like that (under 'taxes and fees'). I think it's 30 Baht.

You still in Koh Chang? If you want a bit of an adventure go and visit the Wai Chek Beach mentioned earlier and swim in the (freshwater?) lagoon there. For me this is the best spot I ever been to in Thailand. Buy your supplies in the village before as there is no shops there.

And get rid of those stupid small satang coins at the same time.
Good luck with that. Even in rich countries like Germany the majority of people are opposed to getting rid of these stupid 1 cent coins which are worth even less than 50 satang. Morons.

You summed it up pretty nicely. There is something for everyone. Nice beaches, nice nature (waterfalls and trails), friendly locals, little bar shacks, small to luxury restaurants, quiet to party areas and a few clusters with proper bargirls but overall it's much more relaxed. I agree with the criminal element in Phuket. I felt that 80% of people interacting with foreigners are out there to get you while on Koh Chang many people are just trying to make an honest living. Of course this is a very subjective opinion.
That bleble guy is gonna give me a Haha emoji again but who cares. Why won't he enlighten us what is so great about Samui? Has its perks but the locals are definitely more in 'tourist business' mode.

May I recommend Aana beach. Just turn left into Klong Phrao Resort and go all the way till you reach some foresty area. There is small litle beach bar and the beach there is fantasitc and rather quiet.
-
Have you tried the Khlong Phrao area? Wide sandy beaches. Don't remember any rocks.
-
Why not just use Airbnb? There should be plenty of units with actual photos and reviews.

Forget it there, it's ugly everywhere, even if misters know all of this forum keep talking chit.
I know we shouldn't feed the troll but no other members agree with you. You get that? You can stop now. Koh Chang has plenty of nice spots.
@Airalee If you want a nice spot in Kai Bae try the beach at the southern end. You need to go through Kai Bea Beach Resort and follow the road till the end (free and open to the public till sunset) where the bungalows/huts are. Beautiful and nice views for sunset. Not sure about rockiness though.

White Sand Beach maybe?
Also, ignore that bleble guy. Obviously a troll.

By the way, just got some funny recommendation in my Uber app: "Avoid crowded places" (=stay away from mafia pickup-points), "Use the front seat to be more comfortable" (=don't have the driver be caught out by police/mafia), "Be at your spot on time" (=get away as quickly as you can before someone notices).
Brilliant stuff.
-
Used Uber the other night from Jomtien. Pleasant driver and was charged 107 Baht to Soi Chayapoon. Not bad at all. Had to wait a bit though because the first driver wouldn't show up. The app automatically switched to find a driver nearby. Very pleased. Imagine what a mafia taxi would have cost at 2am for this kind of distance.
-
That sounds a lot better than the Uber system. Being quoted 120-150 should really have 150 as a maximum fare and not over 200.
Just never tried it because before GrabCar the whole Grab thing evolved from a perfectly fine app to order a taxi and get the meter price to a booking system for mafia taxis at the usual 3-5 times the meter rate.
-
Did you use GrabCar? Would be interesting to know if their prices can compete with Uber, especially at peak times.

It is not pronounced K as in Karate but G like in Garage. Yes, I can read and speak Thai.
There is no transcription with the English G, the system only uses K. To transcribe the English K sound they actually use KH.
If you order Khao Pad Kai and actually say Kai instead of 'Gai' as it is prononced (like the G sound in Koh) you might be ordering egg instead of chicken.
-
Some update: First: Around lunchtime fares can be about 200% higher so a mafia taxi might be cheaper.
Second: Had a scammer yesterday who gave me quite some detour. When demanding money for the unnecessary detour he offered 20 Baht. I said 60 or I will complain.
Can't complain (don't know how) but will rate him down.
Also, tell the drivers to use back roads when there is a traffic jam. At this silly price structure I'd love to get stuck in traffic as a driver.

Learn Thai and you will know that it is not pronounced GO...
Also, I wish you to know this country a bit more, Koh Chang is one of the worst, following Phuket...
He wrote 'Goh' and that's about the closest you can get with English spelling. It is pronounced exactly that. They use "K" instead of "G" because of some old transcription system which isn't really accurate.
There is still a few sleepy places on Koh Chang and I'd say in terms of overdevelopment Samui would come in way earlier than Koh Chang (after Phuket, that is).

Well i visited in about 1994 it was a paradise a small boat from the mainland ,a few resort huts and vast empty beaches,no road then i think. Went back 2 years ago,was stunned and disgusted at what it had become.
There are however still some small area's on the south coast difficult to get to,that are still wonderfull, but i am not saying where.
Wai Chek Beach. The name is Wai Chek Beach. Now watch all the people come because someone said it on some random forum thread. Jeez... "I know something, but I won't say". Really?

Actually it can be very simple! Click on the "start wizard" and that will run you through all the requirements. Of course though you need your existing password! If you don't have that then you go to 3bb and they will print out your password for you....or you can take the modem to 3bb and write down what you want as a password and they will do for you. Remember the password is capitals sensitive!
Shouldn't there be a standard password that came with the machine? If this one was changed and you don't remember it just do a hard reset (factory settings) by holding the reset button somewhere located on the machine for about 20 seconds.
Now the router should come as new and you can use the password written on the bottom of the machine. If there isn't any, the standard password is usually admin/password/0000 and the username should be 'admin'.

Be aware that they publish your full name along with your booking e-mail address or phone number on their website. Silly thing to do, you will end up on every spam list on the planet.
Also, it's more like 1,500 Baht, not 1400.

Don't think you'd get a red stamp from going once to an embassy AFAIK. I have like >10 visa stickers (lots of triples as well) in my passport and never got a warning or stamp anywhere. You'll be fine. Just use an agent so you don't have to deal with sour embassy staff. Well worth the money. In Cambodia it was like 5-10$ and in Penang 400 Baht or so. Cheaper than taking taxis to the embassy and saves you the wait. But someone said in Cambodia you now have to show up in person so I recommend Penang as your best bet (also visa-free entry - another $30 saved).

Soi Made in Thailand runs, as you say, from nearly opposite Central (at the corner with the loud bar that's going until 6am) to Soi Buakhao, some 20 metres from Lotus. Opposite of the junction there is Trench Town Bar. I hope that clears it up.
There's a big R-CON sign with a beer on it from the entrance of Soi Buakhao to Soi Made in Thailand.
