When it got down to 21 and a bit in early 2009 I was telling my wife that I didn't think I could afford to live here anymore, now I have a nearly 7 yr old daughter and my overheads are even higher, at 23.5 it's tough enough. ?

My last trip up there in Feb to get my Sat Dec I took a different approach, I drove to Swampy and parked there, then took the Sky Train and one change to the subway and walked the last km to the embassy, I was there in 2 hours, would have been less but it was the first time I had ever used the trains in Bangkok and wasn't sure where I was going or what I was doing.
So I would think I could make an appointment and feel confident of getting there on time, maybe make it 15 mins later than when I think I might get there.

I was in there towards the end of last year and again in Feb this year and was told it was being trailed for some things but would most likely be introduced for everything, bloody ludicrous, there isn't normally that many people in there at any one time to warrant appointments.

Years ago when I first switched over from a Non O and doing border runs at the Chonburi (Pattaya) Immigration office i was shooting for a Marriage extension, on my 2nd trip in there I was told I had everything I needed, but she couldn't give it to me and I would need to come back again in 9 days, had me completely baffled, eventually I found out the reason why, I had to be inside of the last 30 days of a 90 day period or they couldn't / wouldn't do it.
In the end she said, you can have a Retirement extension right now instead, so I slid across to the next desk and got that, it is far less stuffing around than a Marriage extension.
Anyhoo, after getting the retirement extension I asked if in the future I wanted to switch over to a Marriage extension could I do it, I was told in no uncertain terms that I can't pick and choose what extension I have and I would have to stick with the Retirement extension.
Could have just been an IO having taken a grumpy pill, but just letting you know what I was told, good luck with it.- 4

I have to admit I haven't been up to deepest darkest Esaan for a very long time, like you can't be arsed going up there and getting bored senseless.

I use SmartDNS with True, but I also had it working with the neighbours 3BB in the past, it has to be setup correctly though. Ch 7 in Oz have the rights so you can view it on: https://7plus.com.au/live-tv
Part of the setup you need to do is set your computers clock to Eastern Australian std time, ie 3 hours ahead of here and set you location as Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.

I have a question on this very topic, what if there is no sale taking place and I just wanted to change the owners name to my daughter instead of the wife ??
Are there still Land Taxes etc involved ?? -
If you are a Farcebook user, do what I do, create a private event and it will start reminding you about about a week before.

Here in Pattaya for as long as I have lived here there has been a 5 second delay between one direction going to Red and the other Green, as someone else said, it gives the red light runners time to clear out the intersection, even then it quite often isn't long enough.

I was told years ago that it can be 3-5-7 or 9 days, and that depends on your wealth and importance, my father inlaw was only 3 days and that was way up north in deepest darkest Esaan.

I hope the sim is worth the wait I really look forward to the day I can toss my AIS sim card away. The amount of messages they send per day is unbelievable it's spam on another scale.
I have a dual sim phone, I use AIS for phone calls and True for the internet and I get very little spam texts from AIS compared to the bombardment I get from the True sim, that said the internet via the True sim is not too bad, I also have True Cable internet which generally speaking is ok as well.

I recently went home to Oz, the day after I got back I went into the Jomtien Immigration office to lodge a TM30 and took my wife with me, we have our own house, but it is in her name.
When we sat down in front of the IO the first thing she said to me was , "Is this your wife" yes I said, not your job was her reply, her job, so even if you are married and live with your wife in a house in her name, she is the one who has to do the report, an Aussie mates wife was recently fined 1600 baht for not reporting his re-entry and they are in the same boat as us. -
Over the last year or two, I have posted quite a few parcels internationally, only twice in that time have I been asked for ID, the first time was a while back at the Post Office in Pattaya, they would only accept my passport and not my Thai License, the 2nd time was about 2 weeks ago at the Post Office in Na Jomtien where I normally go and I got away with my Thai Drivers license, I know another guy who has an Ebay store and he said he has to produce ID every time he posts something and has done for quite a while.

I made one like that myself years ago, but just couldn't be bothered making up a new one each year

My monthly water bills got up around 1,000 baht, got sick of it and changed the meter, didn't change, so I replaced the pipes and disconnected the tank, they've been around 400 ever since, I I would suggest an underground leak in the pipes.

Most airlines use the same flight number for a particular route, so assuming all they wrote down was the flight number and not a date, you could just pay whatever fee is applicable and fly with the same airline, on the same route, on a different date.

My wifes ID card has the wrong spelling of my surname, the correct spelling which shows on her passport is Cade, but the idiots at the Amphur decided they would try to translate a simple 4 lettered English word into Thai and back to English and came up with Khadi, I have always joked that I will never need to get a divorce because I am not married to a woman with the surname Khadi.

I have been through the Thai only line a couple of times now with my wife and daughter, always at Swampy though, never had a problem with it.

Many years ago in Korea, pissed as a parrot I tripped on the small step going into the toilets at a very big hotel and ended up face to face with an old woman on her hands and knees scrubbing the floor, it seems to be the case all over Asia that women are in the mens cleaning at any time.

I built 2 new kitchens on the back of our house last year, after a lot of searching around a couple of years back, I was under the impression that if it is "Your" home then it is ok, but if the neighbours said, "geez I like what you did, can you do the same for me", then the answer would be a definite NO, that would be working and as a prohibited occupation for foreigners, no work permit would ever be gained.
The way I see it "Work" can be defined as anything you can pay a Thai to do, so using that logic you would need a work permit to have a toss.
You would also not be permitted to wash your car or bike, mow your own lawn etc etc, the list goes on for ever.

I got mine last month, no proof required, so it is obviously very new, perhaps from March 1.
On the subject of quoting baht or A$ I have always said so many dollars worth x baht at an exchange rate of x.xx baht on that date or the day before I go there. -
I didn't read through all of the replies, a lot of them tend to be a load of nonsense, my wife has a liking for some facial powder/make-up that you cannot get here in Thailand and I get it sent from Australia a couple of times a year when ever it is on special, absolutely no dramas in the mail what so ever, gets delivered to our front door every time, no issues with import duty or any of that crap.

I'm pretty sure a few years back when I first looked into the Retirement extension that the words "Working is strictly prohibited" were in there somewhere and I also think that was from an official Thai site, but I could be wrong.
But lets face it, the basic meaning of "Retired" means you no longer work for a living.

Have retirement extension booking one way ticket to bangkok
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
When I moved over here nearly 12 years ago from Oz, they told me at first that I wouldn't be allowed to board as I only had a 1 way ticket, after telling them they were wrong as I had a 1 year visa and didn't need a return ticket, there was much debate and they finally called the supervisor who told them in no uncertain terms that I could board because of the visa, the checking staff didn't know the rules.
