  1. It would be useful to know how the poll was conducted (phone; in person; post card, etc.). How was it sampled: random with replacement; stratified by geography, urban/rural/ age/ income, etc. What was the margin of error?

Why you falang aks diffikul qweshun? Me and students go BTS stashun and get answer 1000+ khon....then gin kaow and put ansa in computa and emails to boss...then we goes shopping.

  2. .....Dear Army commander........you say you and your troops will only intervene as a "last resort"

This place has reached a point of "last resort".....in fact it has been at a point of last resort for weeks/months.

Please intervene and get this country back into some sort of order......

  3. ...............According to a study, he said about 10 of 1,400 buildings that are 20 to 30 storeys high could be at risk of collapsing in the capital..........

and according to another study (mine)...I would say that (instead of just singling out 20 to 30 storey buildings)....99% of all buildings in BKK would suffer damage....ranging from total collapse.....to extensive damage (minus a total collapse)

Can anyone tell me the name of a building/apartment/condo/townhouse/bridge in Bangkok....that has been constructed to withstand a 6 or 7 Rich earthquake?

  4. Rice with rice, sticky rice with rice, rice with sticky rice .. and if you're really lucky something colorful on the top.

Yes, with such overwhelming variety of dishes Thai grub is sure to conquer the entire world.

but hey....rice is okay if you want a thousand of something.......(just joking)

  5. ...Yes great little scooters for sure.....I love the pop-pop-pop sound of them as they travel around...distinctive sound the Vespas...you don't need to turn your head to look...you know it's a Vespa passing by the sound.

There was an interesting article on Vespa's a month or so back on another Bangkok website...with some amazing photographs of old/new V's and customised models as well.

Website name is Coconuts.com (I assume I can mention this without it being deleted).......tab in the search box "Vespa's"

One of the things he mentioned that sets the V's above the Jap scooters and makes them so popular with users (and he specifically mentioned shop/store owners in Chinatown)...was that the V's have a direct drive to the rear wheel...and as a result are able to carry bigger/heavier loads with almost zilch instability issues (versus the jap bikes which when "loaded up" on the rear carrier/seat with goods present a real handful for the driver and are readily inclined to "snake/wobble" along.

  6. "Thailand has done well on the index, with significant cuts in maternal and child mortality, as well as improvements in education. This is a result of strong political will and willingness to invest in universal healthcare, amongst other essential services for children," said Allison Zelkowitz, country director for Save the Children in Thailand.

Absolute BS....improvements in education??....strong political will????......and the gem " invest in universal healthcare amongst other essential services for children"

    So Allison...

.....explain to me why a newborn baby was left to die by hospital/nursing staff in a hospital in Bang Khae some months ago......"because her parents didn't have the money to pay for some additional specialist services required as the baby had life threatening problems at birth" (it was not the parents decision to let the child die...they wanted her to live)

Can you also answer the following questions......(multi choice answers below each question)

    1. Why is Thailand still so high up on the list child trafficking index...........

    a. Don't know b. Don't care c. Because of Thailands strong political will.

    2. Why is Thailands teenage pregnancy rate amongst the highest in the world. (Avoiding the pregnancy in the first place "Saves the Children" right?)

    a. Don't know b.Don't care c. Because of Thailands investment in universal healthcare

    3. Why is STC (just today) calling for 4 key points to be undertaken to protect mothers and children "in the aftermath of disasters" (aftermath ?)

    a. Because I forgot to mention it before c. Don't know d. It looks good in the media

    4. Why protect mothers and children "in the aftermath of disasters"...shouldn't this be before - during- and after ?

    a. Don't know c. Maybe c. Yes

  7. Try some of the small private owned hotels that dot the landscape along Sukhumvit.........

When I first arrived in Thailand some 6 years ago I did exactly what a previous poster has suggested and that was to simply rent a hotel room on a nightly basis and then spend a few days legging up and down Suk.....checking out the small hotels.

I found one eventually and stayed 2 months before taking up a 1 year lease in an apartment ...but that is another story.

The hotel I located is still there...small comfortable, aircon, friendly helpful staff, close to a 7/11, 200yds to a large market...plenty of streetfood vendors , cafes......it is located at Phra Khanong (5 BTS stops to Nana = 15/20 minutes or taxi to Nana 30 minutes

The hotel is on Suk Road 10 seconds walk to the PK BTS...the name of the hotel is "The Lilla"...it cost me 9000b a month 6 years ago Note. I paid upfront in cash for the two months.

    Contact details...

    Lilla Hotel 1503/1-2 Sukhumvit Road

    (between Soi 67 + 69)

    +66 2 7142322 www.lillahotel.com

Check out the website note the 20 to 50% discount on offer for stays of more than a week.

Tourism numbers are way way down in Bangkok...alot of these places are desperate for customers.

So don't be tempted to book a room online......instead front up on arrival at the hotel with the cash in your hand and negotiate. and pay them right there and then

    Good luck

  8. got a few in Pin Klao already...........as follows........

    (Direction sign) U-Trun........!!

(another huge billboard outside a beauty clinic).......We are slimeing clinic

    Outside Tesco Lotus........Tresco Lotus

    At a Sidewalk cafe........Branana Smothies.......stroberry milkshakes

At Phya Thai at the bottom of the BTS stairs....4 medium/large official looking signs within 100 metres of each other.......Prya Thai........Phia Thai.......Phyra Thai.........Phraya Thai

Ok...I am not being pedantic....just observing...spelling or transliteration errors occur worldwide.

  9. .........Be warned.......if this place starts to "rock" more often with earthquakes......it will reveal/expose the shoddy cutting of corners with Thailands construction techniques...hi rises, bridges, you name it.....it is a worrying thought actually.

I was in Christchurch NZ visiting family shortly after the big one there...the aftershocks still continue to this day.

Not one building was exempted from earthquake damage...and NZ has one of the highest standards in building construction in the world.

Thailand has (insert ? standard here)
