He's a long-time good friend here, and he did say that I should be careful of the traffic, but I didn't think that a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing would present a problem!

Did you not read about the lady doctor that was killed whilst crossing the road in Bangkok whilst using a zebra crossing?

It happened in early January 2022 and was widely publicised. I arrived in Bangkok around that time after a long absence and it's the first thing I think about now before I take my life in my hands and cross the road here.

I'm surprised your friend didn't mention this to you, I guess he doesn't read the news.

I have to agree with you on this BangkokHank, as I have seen so many "nearly accidents" due to both pedestrian and driver ignorance as to how these things work.

Indeed I was paying a visit to a hospital in Bangkok and a friend of mine warned me about the traffic on one of the main roads and suggested I use the pedestrian crossing which was controlled by traffic lights; so I did, and whilst all of the traffic chose to stop, one idiot in a truck came barrelling down the road and missed me by a whisker, and then only because I had seen him out of the corner of my eye past the other stationary traffic.

Unfortunately Thai folk do not know how to use roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, or have any "road sense" whatsoever and I don't think that will ever change given the current status/nature of the training given to 1st time drivers – – i.e. just about zilch.

"Your friend" should have warned you about the possibility of that happening. I think he owes you a steak dinner somewhere fancy next time you're in Bangkok.

The e-visa system requires you to apply in your home country. You arent "allowed" to apply on the e-visa system in your home country while living in a different country. Passports dont typically have an address issue on them other than a page you write your contact info yourself. The e-visa system request you provide evidence of your residence, meaning where you live. A phone bill, bank statement, utility bill, drivers license, etc that shows the address where you live. For some reason the UK site accepts a copy of your data page from your passport but that isn't actually what they are asking for and officially does not prove where you reside it just proves your a citizen of that country. They also require you to provide copies of all the passport stamps for the prior year.

I've been using the Ekkamai-Pattaya bus for 22 years and I have never seen such crowds as this year: weekends, weekdays, seems to make no difference.  I'm used to going there almost anytime and maybe having to wait for one bus in front.  My last few times this past month, both on Tuesdays, the blue bus ticket line has been doubled around and a 2 hour wait.  Both times I bit the bullet and took a van...I do not recommend it.

Pattaya has suddenly become immensely popular among the Instagram crowd and visiting Asians, most of whom seemed to be Korean.

I was there on Wednesday and noticed a "microbus" service. I wonder if it might be better than a van if the big bus is full?

I would like to know how those who go through an agent get round the later 90 day reports, perhaps those of you who use an agent can explain the routine...😉

Live in Bangkok, agent is in Soi Post,  Pattaya. Hump the bus every 90 days or so from Ekkamai to Patts*, Bolt motosai to the agent's office, hand over passport and 100 baht, head to The Sportsman for a Full English, Bolt motosai to bus station, hump the bus back to Udom Suk BTS then Skytrain the rest of the way back to my shoebox in Lumphini 😂

Agent mails the passport with TM47 receipt back to me by EMS.

I could mail my passport to the agent's office but the trip to Pattaya once a quarter is a nice distraction.

Worth a look... accepted foreign passport as ID?  Binance TH and Bitkub do not now accept they say it is a BOT rule.

Unfortunately they want foreign passport AND one other foreign ID, eg drivers license.

I don't have the latter so it took me a bit of haggling with their KYC team for them to accept a foreign photo card that is issued by the same govt department as drivers licenses.

During the chat they mentioned that I could provide some 'local' ID, eg Thai DL as the 2nd form of ID but I can't recover the chat and can't remember the full details. I can't get a TDL easily so couldn't offer it.

I can't get Yellow House Book or Pink ID card and am retired so could not offer a work permit, therefore I don't know if they'll accept any of those in lieu of secondary foreign ID.
