  1. I found out recently that Thais don't say "Rama". The word is actually พระราม which Google Translate pronounces as "Phraram". I guess the Hoi polloi would say "Palam".

I also found out that Sukhumvit is pronounced with a W sound and not a V sound.

I was quite flabbergasted to find this out. What other tricks with the transcription of Thai names are they playing on us?

  2. Oh wow, the last time I was there was 2014 and the owner of the bar I was drinking in down on one of the sois behind the Crystal Palace refused to let me walk back up to the main road because of bandits.

He was so insistent that it was dangerous to walk in that area that he took me up there on his own motorbike because all the 'win' had gone to bed already.

I think everyone ought to make sure they read in this report that includes my emphasis.

    - "...the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully rescued two male Israeli hostages from the city of Rafah in Gaza, amidst heavy Israeli airstrikes targeting the area. The hostages, identified as Fernando Simon Marman, 60, and Louis Har, 70, were found to be in good medical condition after their rescue and were swiftly transported to an Israeli hospital for further evaluation and care."

...and, "Conflicting reports emerged regarding the casualties from the airstrikes, with figures ranging from 37 to 52 Palestinians killed, including children, according to various sources. The disparity underscores the chaotic and volatile situation on the ground, with Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry condemning the Israeli military's actions as indiscriminate and disproportionate."

So, the bottom line is two elderly hostages were rescued and were found to be in good health. The cost for that was 40 to 50 (or more) Palestinians killed, most of them probably civilians.

Two apparently well-treated hostages were rescued at the cost of 40 to 50 other people's lives, and many of you on this Topic see this as a reason to celebrate. This is, in essence, a perfect example of your despicable biases.

Only 40 or 50? IDF needs to try harder.

Assuming the lorry was a company owned vehicle, in the UK the ministry would be crawling all over the company offices for evidence of whatever, first the good practice before work random alcohol records, then a multitude of questions about the driver records, it would be relentless, now let's look at over here, move the vehicles and all have a nice day.

Thailand is not the UK and hopefully never will be.
