-
Just wondered if there was anywhere to get a shower in the new airport , my flight lands early and i have to wait around all day for my flight north , be nice to be able to freshen up when i get there , considering i will have been traveling for a whole day beforehand !
Also is there anything to do ? I have a good few hours to waste , apart from eating and drinking or shopping what can i do ?

Well im Scottish and last time i took , a bottle of locally made Scotch , Some Haggis , and a couple of terrys chocolate orange , they were fasinated with the haggis and actually quite liked it they even made thier own dish with haggis and chilli , the whiskey was well recieved and we drank it the first night and they asked for the chocolate orange again so they must have liked that ,
Probably good to think of Something they cant get there , but generally im sure they will be just happy to see you

I remember talking to a german guy in Chang Mai who was sitting next to a young girl at a bar , about thai women bar girls etc , who then told me that i should forget about ever pulling a real Thai girl , youve got no chance he said they never give us falangs a second look , he said trust me ive been here for 22 years and ive tried many times, i then told him i have gf and she isnt a bar girl , no way he said i dont believe it i have much experience it never happens, i then said think what you want but as long as im happy i dont care what you think, so i said to him but dont you think if you tried for someone nearer your own age you might have some success and you wont have to go with bar girls , no chance he said i dont like anything over 30 , and even for me thats quite old i prefer 18 to 21 less kilometers on the clock he then laughed and gulped down his beer and took a huge drag of his fowl smelling cigarette , mmmm i silently thought to myself but theres a slight difference between me and you youre 63 years old ! and the best part of 20 stone ! and im 30 and average weight , now ive nothing against fat people or old people , but what normal girl in thier right mind would be interested in this guy unless there was a financial incentive in it for them ? , Then the waitress or bar tender said your food ready now and handed over a large cooked breakfast , and the guy started munching his way threw it , sweat pouring down his face , poor little girl next to him looked bored to death and just sat there waiting for her next order from herr goering !, my girlfriend and her pal then came to pick me up so i finished my beer , paid up and said farewell. Just as the three of us were getting on the bike outside i said to my gf that man in bar thinks only lady bar go with falang man , she glanced over and said to me yes but who is want to go with that man are you crazy ? He old and fat ! , she then spoke to her pal who only speaks thai and they both started laughing , at big hermann as we departed !

I would suggest getting a multi entry 'o' visa from hull, about £100.00 this will allow you to stay in Thailand for 15 months, but you will have to do a border run every 90 days, with no need to go to immigration whilst here, this will allow you 15 months in which to plan ahead. At any time you can get a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage.
From what i have read most teaching jobs here require a degree. In my opinion £1000.00 to £1,200.00 is enough to live here per month, but different lifestyles require differing amounts of money.
I would also suggest you obtain a international driving licence/permit from the AA, RAC or green flag, this will be easily exchanged for a Thai licence once here, this can be used in some places to obtain entry at the Thai price.
I moved here at very short notice earlier this year, due the shortage of available work in the construction industry in the UK,and have enjoyed it here immensely.
Good luck for the future.
So where in Hull did you apply for this visa ?
Is there a thai embassy there ?
So what is the procedure with these border runs ?
That £1000-£1200 a month should be plenty i think , as our accomidation costs are low because my partners house is paid for already , so we would justy have our utility bills and food costs , plus the running of the motorbike
Are you working there Steve ?

I agree that you should just get a 1 year non "o" immigration visa based on marriage (spending time with your wife). The amounts mentioned will give you a decent living in Thailand, and your wife probably also takes home a small salary. If the wife is not working, I would definitely care seriously about how she is spending her time. There are many temptations (and "easy" ways to make money) for a young woman, who have too much time and is getting bored with her daily life.
About your property portfolio, I would strongly advise you to save the money for now, and not start building untill you are able to relocate here permanently. I am sure that you are both very much in love now, and wish you a happy and long lasting marriage. I though cannot help thinking of my dear friend, in a very remote part of Isaan, who have built a very nice house there. Now his lovely wife is no longer satisfied with anything he say or do and she has become lazy and often like to sleep the day away. I am quite sure that his marriage is only still lasting, to protect the property investment he made, as he is not the type, that just leaves everything to the ex-wife and moves on with his life. If you, God forbid it, in a few years should find yourself in the same situation, please be prepared to take a loss, as no others in the village can possibly afford to buy the house, and only locals would ever consider living in this village. At least be wise and build your house in a larger city, or in the close suburbs, as this will make it a lot easier to find a potential buyer..
What are these easy ways of making money ? that you are suggesting ?
The properties are in the UK not Thailand and my partner already has her own small two bedroom house which is all paid for , thats where we will be living. Im not planning to build any house in Thailand at the moment.
And i do enjoy a good nap every day from 4pm to 6 or 7pm , We will have plenty to do and i doubt my girlfriend will be sleeping all day considering she gives me a hard time when i go for my nap " sleep sleep all day all day " she says.

Hello , Could anyone answer my questions regarding this ? This is the situation i may be in couple of years or so
Im 33 and i am married to a thai girl , i want to take a year out from my work and live in Thailand with my wife ,
Can i get a year visa ? Do you get this after you marry ?
How much funds will i need in my bank ? Im planning to have £12000 , £1000 per month enough ?
Is there a requirement for me to speak thai ? I cant speak any thai but id like to teach english if i stay there
At the end of the visa could i apply to stay longer ? If i rented my house and had some work i could stay longer or not ?
The other option i have is to continue building my property portfolio and move there when im 45
How much funds would i need to show in my account to stay there ?
And could someone tell me whats the easiest way to stay there long term ? And what happens with the 90 day visa ?
Cheers

In a word no, but the Embassy of the Country concerned will tell you that each application is judged on its own merits but every country sets standards and Minimum/Maximum quotas
It was for the uk and north Scotland

Just wondered if the place you lived had any bearing on whether your gf or wifes visa application would be accepted , this is for all visas
I mean if you lived in a densly populated city with a very large unemployment rate, or a person who lived in a small community with a low unemployment rate and a declining population , would this in any way effect thier decision in awarding the visa ?

Im 30 my girlfriends 25 , five year difference, she has been married and is now divorced cause her husband was an arse , if people think shes a bar girl then i cant change that , i love the girl, i believe her past , i trust her , so i dont really care what anyone thinks , im just going to take my time and see how things go ,

If you stated in your sponsor letter that , you understand the terms of the visa and that if she didnt return when her visa expired , she would struggle to get a visa again in the future , ok if she has no assets and only just got her job is it not ok if your just honest about this and they can see its a genuine relationship should they not issue the visa ?

Chinese , koreans or japanese women are the same as thai , these countries also have thier unsavoury areas and an entertainment industry with young women catering for men , what do you think all those rich chinese and japanese men do ? , some but not all , same as men who go to Thailand some are old some are young , its not the case that every man goes there with the intention of going with as many bgs as he can but some do , some go there to fufill thier sexual fanatsy whatever that may be , some guys maybe go looking for love and a long term partner , there are so many different types of people in the world that you cant possibly generalise people all the same way or ilk, Older women go to countries like Turkey to find a young man to have fun with or for love ., its up to them , if thats what they want to do fair play to them , Thailand is not the only country where you can openly see girls who are willing to have sex for money , look at Amsterdam , Denmark , France , Many South American countries , Las vegas ! One friend even told me that his hotel in Las Vegas had a number in the information booklet , for dial a hooker !
Thailand however is more publisised due to its popularity , people go there because they enjoy it ! Whatever they choose to do while they are there !

my girlfriend and her pal then came to pick me up so i finished my beer , paid up and said farewell.
I wonder what your "respectable" gf was thinking as she collected you from a ferang bar with bar girls sitting in it?
Why would you go in such a place?
I wonder what your gf and her friend were really laughing about?
So are you telling me that when me and my gf take a trip to a bigger city and if i decide to go for a beer , i have to look around for a bar with only thai people in it one thats not as you call it a ferang bar , or if i want a quick bite to eat i have to rule out all the street side bars etc with a comprehensive food menu thai and ferang and go look for somewhere only real thai people eat not ferang , the reason i went in such a place was because it was dammed hot and i wanted an ice cold beer do you really think im that sad a person i go around analysing every person or bar i come across thinking oh i cant go in there because there is a few ferang and potentially bar girls and that my gf would judge me for having a beer in a bar whilst waiting to be picked up , im sure if she had an issue with it she would tell me ! and im so paranoid that i would think my gf and her friend were laughing about something other than big hermann ! Im sure that would,nt go down to well if i started saying what you laughing at ? why you laughing is it me ?, who are you talking about ? you talking about me ? whats your friend saying she talking about me ? etc

So is it basically now the case if your Girlfriend doesnt have proof that she has a job and no savings the tourist visa will be refused ?
If the OP explained that his girlfriend worked with her family selling fish , but the work was only cash in hand, is that not ok ?
-
Send me your e-mail address and ill send you the list of documents you would need , also if you look at the thread which visa company , there is an example of a sponsor letter there
cheers

If you want to avoid people thinking you girl is 'vacation fun', don't dress like a tourist.
Too many expats here dress like they are on vacation or don't care much.
If you dress up, atleast they will think your lady is high-price girl instead of cheapest the street offered.
True story.
To be honest when im there i wear what im comfortable in if thats t-shirt n shorts through the day then thats what i wear , if i go for a nite out a nice shirt and trousers , im not really worried what people think when they look at us in Thailand or the Uk , Basically im not changing for anyone if they dont like me as i am then too bad ! i dont care

Well when i met my tgf in a disco tech , did i think she was a prostitute ? the truth is i never really thought about it at the time , i was single on holiday and i just wanted a bit of fun , so we were chatting and i bought a couple of drinks and one thing led to another and she came back to the hotel with me the next morning after we woke up i was thinking to myself should i or should i not offer this girl some money i mean how are you to really know unless she asks you for money ? anyway i did and said do you need some money the responce i got was" why you think i prostitute or dirty like lady bar " " i not go with you for money i go with you because i like you , i apologised and said i didnt mean to upset her and just wasnt sure what to do because there are many ladys like that in Thailand , she still was very upset and took a bit off time to calm down. but said she understood ,
Now i can tell you honestly i have slept with bar girls a few times while in the tourist places but not to much and i treated it all as a bit of fun with no intention of a relationship.
.Some of these girls were really nice people others not so nice , but you get good and bad in every walk of life.
I can also tell you that ive had a good few one night stands with falang girls, and some of them went threw the men at an alarming rate , like a different guy every other weekend , some of those girls had a reputations for this so at the end of the day people will talk or assume what ever they want , but to hel_l we them the main thing is that your happy so do what you feel is right
Back to my tgf she has been married for six years has a daughter but is a nice person and i love her , there is only a 5 year age difference between us so were both still young and we get on great together so why not !

Not sure about that , but i think the 6th of DEC is the Kings B-day which might mean a national holiday ?

Well if her parents have never forced her to go find a job, the concept of working wil be alien to her !
Many years ago i jacked in School no qualifications , no job , no prospects and the first day after this i was lying in bed enjoying my slumber , when my father and mother burst into the room at 7.30am threw me out of bed , then said get dressed ,go grab some breakfast and get your arse into town and dont bother coming back until you have a job, now years later im a time served quantity surveyor , and yes i had to start at the bottom , factories, supermarkets , labouring jobs , then college whilst working part time ,and it made me the man i am today so its really all to do with how your brought up !
And as you said about the damaged goods tag , i think its an appaling way to talk about any woman , its not cars we are talking here its people and people deserve to be treated with respect !
-
there will always be an issue with a clash of cultures !

From my experience , ive always noted that many thai people are not too fussed about working , they just lounge around all day , i think the man is usually the bread winner and many of the gfs and wives just stay at home ,
But if your mates health aint too good and hes having to work a second job for this i can understand your concern , could he not try and explain this to her ? and remember there is plenty of fish in the sea !
