  1. http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/one-tourist-murder-suspect-now-arrested-another-run/

Among the huge flow of info, counter-info, rumors, counter-rumors, I just would like to know how the Police and Government will deal with the above and the huge flow of inconsistencies and incompetence. Of course they try to cover up the whole mess and I really hope the international media will continue to pressurize Thailand to get tangible results.

The families must be absolutely devastated by the way the investigation is conducted. I really feel sorry for them. That's such a shame.

Thailand deserves to learn lessons in many areas. Unfortunately the high season is coming and the case will probably end unsolved (or a Burmese scapegoat). This is really disgusting.

The Prime Minister should order that the suspect "Mon" to have a DNA test. I believe all the migrant workers did not have the choice to refuse. Why would he? (Ah the THB 1million reward of course).

It would interesting if someone can keep track of ALL events, declarations since this horrific double murder. Just to show how inefficient the whole system is, just to expose the whole failure from top to bottom. I am sure some people keep very close track of all events. I hope it will be used to expose how Thailand can be dangerous.

I read that many Thais argue that this kind of tragedy happen in all countries and the judicial system is not perfect neither in other countries. Well, the point is that in Europe or the US the system might also suck sometimes. But in general it works. In Thailand it never work. And that's another blatant example.

We cannot expect Thailand to be at the same level as the US or Europe. But at least things should improve. Unfortuantely what I have seen in the last decade is that things do not improve in Thailand. It is only getting worse and worse every single day.

Lack of Police, Lack of Authority, Lack of Laws, Lack of Enforcement, Lack of Moral, just name it. We cannot put all on the account of the "Cultural Difference". Even in a different culture, some respect should be paid to the victims and their families. Obviously it is not the case here. Such a farce.

An accumulation of deficiencies that are more and more exploited, resulting in this kind of drama and many others

Just look at the carnage of the roads. It is getting worse every single year and nothing is done. Nothing. Same root causes.

All this in the name of what? Money? Frankly this is really insane.

  2. Thailand is a nice country to live in... But it is time to look at behind the scene. Subsurface, the reality is less rosy, not to say dirty or even insane. Most people are blinded by the nice appearances. Thais are very strong in beautifying the reality; creativity, marketing. So when they are caught, of course they will deny and reject the statement, claiming that westerners do not understand Thailand. It is true in this specific slavery case, but in so many other aspects in Thailand. The beaches are very nice but the backyard if full of trash (Koh Samet, Samui, Phi Phi just name it...). Drainage sewers hidden under the beaches in most of the country and so on... All this has been caused by decades of corruption, protected industries, lack of controls, standards, education and most of all a complete failed State. Not only the fishery Industry has modern slavery; many other areas. if you dig further in this area, you will also find that most of fishes and shrimps come from farms where tons of chemicals and pesticides are used. All illegal in EU or the US. This is cost to pay your "yummy" shrimps (but also meat, fruits and vegetables) cheap in lovely restaurants across the country. This modern slavery story is only the tip of the iceberg. With only a very few exceptions, the whole food supply chain in Thailand is a huge scam.

Just ask yourself 2 basic questions:

    1) Why there are always 2 qualities in all products: the "local" quality and the "export" quality? Simply because the "local" quality products would never pass any sanitary test in the US or EU.

    2) Why food is so cheap in Thailand, but still industries making good money? Remember this very simple basic: cheap and good does not exist. There is always a trick. By good I do not mean the taste, but the quality.

Of course, we cannot pretend to have the same standards than in the US or EU (even though it still questionable - but controlled - over there). We do not want to pay the same price. But there is a cost for this. Slavery is one of the cost. Your health is another cost.

The problem with Thailand is that absolutely no progress has been made in the past decade. There is absolutely no common sense and the public interest does not count. Look around you, the only singles "values" that count here are individualism and money. If only there was some standards, force of law, independent tests and controls but there is none, zero; the door is wide opened to all kind of abuses and there are a lot in Thailand.

Having said that, enjoy the country of "smile"

  3. No finger pointing on the picture... <deleted>!?!?! Is that only for the bad stupid farangs caught in "Be happy" Thailand?

If you don't like anything about the place, I suggest you remove yourself forthwith and stop your suffering.

If you are not in Thailand, then <deleted>.

What is your point here? Anyhow I am indeed going to leave this beautiful country very soon after 10 years here. Enough of all this BS, fake, lies, hiding the truth, corruption and so on. This is only getting worse years after years and military will not change anything besides some cosmetics.

  4. Even through Army would have legitimate reasons to better control foreign workers and later give them an opportunity to re-enter legally, the method used is highly questionable. No warning, no cooperation with neighboring countries. Only threats to workers and intimidation. What about all the (Thai) businesses that were employing them for years? You want to change, clean and improve the system? good idea but then also start to equally punish people employing illegal workers. And by the way, start to ask CP to better control their supply chain of "slavery". It would be a good example to the World and most importantly, for other businesses in Thailand. What is done now is just dressing; things will be back to normal after military are gone. The whole Thai Society is corrupted and the military junta will not change mentalities.

Erm.... What threats and intimidation from the military?

Also why would they have to cooperate with other countries or give warnings????

The military are not engaged in deportations, the immigration police are doing it.

The majority are leaving of their own accord thank to some shi7-stirring.

You forget that even before the power sieze, the immigration were doing so many raids a day and deporting illegal workers.

Please don't tell me you believe all the gossip you hear..... lol

180,000 (and counting) Cambodian workers have returned home just because they heard rumors and they suddenly decided massively and country wise to go back home. Give warning for what? Just as a courtesy, imagine you are in this situation and you need to leave your place without any of your belongings; how nice... Majority leaving on their own? Are you sure of this? Did you ask them? Do you think one single minute they are happy to leave their "home" and job like this in a matter of a very hours? Are you just brainwashed or what?

I do not believe in gossips here. I live in Thailand for 10 years, I know perfectly how Thai treat and consider Cambodians and Burmeses.

Finally I speak Khmer fluently and I spoke to some of them on several occasions. No propaganda with me, no need to treat me like an American tourist.

  6. Tks guys for your support, greatly appreciated.

At the moment EEA Family / Fiance seems to be the best option.

Indeed, it is not crystal clear if we can apply for a Settlement Visa or not. From my reading, it is not restricted only to UK passports.

The problem is that - besides here - we cannot have a meeting/interview with anybody before we submit an application (which cannot be changed). I have a very limited time frame (we will move in July) and I cannot afford to miss a round and re-start an application.

I would like to make an appointment with VFS but it seems not possible before application is made. Also not possible to visit without appointment.

    Any good lawyer/advisor in Bangkok?

  7. Thailand =

    Hub of corruption

    Hub of dis-functional politicians.

    Hub of "illegal" prostitution.

    Hub of failed states

Hub of military coups and attempted coups.

    Hub of failed educational system

    Hub of college exam cheating.

    Hub of "passing" failing students.

Hub of totally useless police force.

Hub of proclaiming themselves "Hub" of anything and everything

The "hub" list goes on and on.

    LOS, LOH, LOL

  8. Finger pointing picture + problem "solved" = cheesy.gif TIT. Businesses will continue to dump into the klong (but do not forget to pay whistling.gif) and the klongs will continue to dump into the sea (right below the beaches).

Water treatment plant? I bet you will never see any, over if any (at least 5 years from now) it will stop work after the initial 6 months and the great inauguration ceremony with all officials (and of course, finger pointing pictures for the Media).

    TIT, it will NEVER change.

  9. The land of jokes. Failed State + laws never enforced + corrupted police = chaos = anarchy = TIT = It will never change.

And that's the way we like it.

Somehow yes. I know that we also like the "Thai" mess but that's also why it is so cheap. But the laxity and anarchy reach such high level that it becomes dangerous. An example: Thailand is the 2nd country in the World for number of deaths on the roads. Don't you think that little bit too much? Do you still like when you know that your life is at high risk? Do you like it when you know that there is no construction standard (but you still pay high price for your condo), when you know that what you eat every single day is full of forbidden/dangerous chemicals and pesticides. Do you still like it when you will be in trouble and you will be wrong even though you are right?

Do you still like it or are you unconscious? Think twice before you like it and believe me, you will understand the reality of LOS aka TIT.

  10. Apply for a UK residence card
    https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-a-uk-residence-card

    or

Apply for an EEA family permit
    https://www.gov.uk/family-permit

What is the difference with the "Settlement - Unmarried Partner" visa?

I must admit that I am quite confused with the apparent different options? Will the UK Embassy in Bangkok advise us when we send the application or will they handle the application as it is?

I just want to make sure we apply for the best possible type of visa for her.

Note that at the moment we live in Bangkok.
