There's a world of difference in "checking for ID" and actually "checking ID".
Also, a 5 year Thai driving licence will not reflect a new passport number or change of address, unless you actually request it to be updated at the licensing centre.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ubon would not even accept my passport ( complete with visa stamps etc) and insisted on a letter from the British Embassy " confirming that the said passport was genuine "!!!
At which point I asked as to how they would know that any such letter was itself not fake, and left.
And this was merely for the purpose of obtaining the yellow house book.

Am wondering exactly which checks that Pattaya police can perform regarding criminal records that border immigration cannot .
(considering it was billed as an exercise to combat "trans-national crime ")

Kudos to the boy, and the police for their part also. Hope the parents showed the boy their pride in him and that the whole experience of being honest was uplifting and rewarding for him....as it should be !

Forget IFR, VFR, SVFR....I believe that the crew may have been operating under the same flight rules as DAN AIR used to......TLAR.
(That looks about right !)

He has admitted killing the young girl so off with his head. An eye for an eye as it states in the bible. Lets see some justice here for once and an example made to others who currently think they will get away with it.Hope he will face the dead penalty, human like him have no right to live among us. R.I.P. young lady.
Its sad that some people are vicious, either in killing other, whether it for real or in their comments
Don't know if you have noticed all those bald headed blokes wrap in orange sheets, they are Buddhist monks and this is a predominately Buddhist country. The bible has no relevance here what so ever.Leave that for the likes of the USA.
Don't know if you've noticed, but those angry lynch mobs that materialise at the scene of these crimes and their re-enactments are also predominately Buddhist. They would take "an eye for an eye" in an instant.

RIP . Thais have already posted pictures on facebook and other social channels for their amusement. I don't understand why they get a "kick" out of this.
Thai's are just as insensitve as some TVF members.
Some Thais are also just as compassionate as some TVF members .

If you genuinely cant comprehend that the vast majority of Thais understand arabic numerals I've only one thing left to say,
555
We're not discussing a majority of Thai's, we're talking about one perhaps two workmen, people doing menial labour.
Of course, these workmen may not even be Thai nationals......yet, regardless of their literacy prowess, they really should be able to process the pictures ( you know, which way up the sky goes etc). As for the mitigating circumstances you offer of it being dark at the time....do you not consider it a bit stupid to undertake such a task when you can't see what the fork you're doing ?

Electronic data to be made available to tourists from a central platform......is there going to be an internet capable computer "stationed" at Hualamphong then ?
Nonsense article.
-
Or, indeed, the National Lottery numbers !They should have placed a photo of a 1.000 baht banknote to the sign no Thai would misread that one...
-
Any plausible explanations as to why all the cameras were dysfunctional ? Also, without disputing the story, surely the only witnesses on the bus that could have seen the incident unfold as reported. would have to have been sitting alongside the driver.

No, TVF is actually a wealth of invaluable information covering a comprehensive range of subjects. The title says 'Brit arrested for theft ...'
Interestingly, although I see the usual string of comments lashing out at the guy for wearing a tatoo and a 'wife-beater', I see no specifically anti-Brit comment.
Now if the title had been 'Koweiti guy arrested ...' or 'French guy arrested ...', I have no doubt there would be a loooooong string of anti-Arab / anti-French comments.
That's TVF in a nutshell.
Don't be so homophobic and read through the comments again and you will also find that you are mistaken.

....and the penalty/absolution for this crime is to place an undisclosed amount of money in an unmarked envelope and leave it on the counter at the nearest police station.....
-
Amazing how everybody has a laugh at this brutal murder (probably). Quite a difference to the Koh Tao murders.
Quite simply because the victim is "faceless" ( no pun intended) so there is no alternative way to react to it.

Pattaya may be an extreme, but a similar scenario plays out across the country,
Should all cases be dealt with thoroughly and efficiently as proposed, then the court processes will need to be overhauled and streamlined.
Do that and then more jails and remand centres etc will be needed,
The solution, of course, is better policing and stronger deterrents to lessen the number of crimes that require investigating. So round we go again.

Eagerly await the first court case and the potential legal absurdities that will surely accompany it .

Almost makes me shed a tear - when I see those new pick-ups being re-possessed because the price of rice/rubber had the temerity to drop ! Heigh-ho !They buy new pickups but no worries they cant afford them either but nothing said about that ! as for rubber dolls instead of using rubber in road construction how many of these drug smuggling dolls they intend to make ? oh Thailand !!!!!
Always makes me laugh - the butthurt foreigners seeing Thais buy new pick-ups, when they trundle around on a Honda Wave themselves.,,.

Sweet Angel of Death, I hope I never find myself sitting next to one of them on an aircraft !
-
Which maybe explains why they are so reluctant to become pro-active !Thai cops have been really getting a battering the last couple of weeks.

The key word in the post being "primarily".Lot of knocking Pattaya's finest for not doing their job, but when they do their job and this happens I hope the Russian get locked up for a long time before being kicked out the Kingdom.
I hope the Police Officers does fully recover and his get the proper compensation he deserves.
Though there is merit to these checkpoints, they are primarily about money. Pay your fine (big) and you are free to drive home. Still drunk.
So. nobody is going to court for drink driving. Do get your facts straight.

Not to mention the F1 Bangkok grand prix....and the compulsory purchase of insurance on arrival which was suggested. This one is destined to be filed and hopefully forgotten as quickly as possible along with hosting the Tour de France, Miracle Thailand and ankle monitors.

Married? Seriously hope they don't have any offspring.

Yep, and 3000 farmers limited to 150kgs each accounts for just under 500 tons !The article makes no sense.
3000 purchase points
3000 total farmers
Uh, no.
Nonsense article......or plenty of scope for opportunism !

So they will happily advertise and sell these vehicles at the Bangkok Motor Fair, (had some nice ones there), and then promptly arrest you for having an illegal vehicle should you have the audacity to take it out of the showroom ?
