  1. The title says 'Brit arrested for theft ...'

Interestingly, although I see the usual string of comments lashing out at the guy for wearing a tatoo and a 'wife-beater', I see no specifically anti-Brit comment.

Now if the title had been 'Koweiti guy arrested ...' or 'French guy arrested ...', I have no doubt there would be a loooooong string of anti-Arab / anti-French comments.

    That's TVF in a nutshell.

No, TVF is actually a wealth of invaluable information covering a comprehensive range of subjects.

Don't be so homophobic and read through the comments again and you will also find that you are mistaken.

  2. Pattaya may be an extreme, but a similar scenario plays out across the country,

Should all cases be dealt with thoroughly and efficiently as proposed, then the court processes will need to be overhauled and streamlined.

Do that and then more jails and remand centres etc will be needed,

The solution, of course, is better policing and stronger deterrents to lessen the number of crimes that require investigating. So round we go again.

  3. They buy new pickups but no worries they cant afford them either but nothing said about that ! as for rubber dolls instead of using rubber in road construction how many of these drug smuggling dolls they intend to make ? oh Thailand !!!!!

Always makes me laugh - the butthurt foreigners seeing Thais buy new pick-ups, when they trundle around on a Honda Wave themselves.,,.

Almost makes me shed a tear - when I see those new pick-ups being re-possessed because the price of rice/rubber had the temerity to drop ! Heigh-ho !
  4. Lot of knocking Pattaya's finest for not doing their job, but when they do their job and this happens I hope the Russian get locked up for a long time before being kicked out the Kingdom.

I hope the Police Officers does fully recover and his get the proper compensation he deserves.

Though there is merit to these checkpoints, they are primarily about money. Pay your fine (big) and you are free to drive home. Still drunk.

So. nobody is going to court for drink driving. Do get your facts straight.

The key word in the post being "primarily".
  5. That absolutely not what I said. If you read my post I said I agree with increased sentences for fleeing the scene. I also acknowledged there are genuine concerns about being attacked by onlookers who are sometimes too quick to assume guilt.

That's why under Thai law the driver has 24 hours to turn him/herself into a police station. And just in Thailand, same rule in other 'less developed' countries.

This rule is in place due to the risk of the local mob dispensing local instant justice on the driver.

Which speaks volumes for both Thai society and their law enforcement system.
  6. Hannahs sister, Laura, has written a Facebook post describing the familys grief and criticising Thai authorities handling of the case. She says her family were told: Why are you so bothered? Just go home and make another one.

Oh come on---no matter how down on Thailand you are...This is fantasy from the Sister who I don't think even came here...can anyone really imagine in the middle of a murder hunt that is being reported world wide The Thai authorities saying ..."don't worry--Go Make another Baby" ...... What Authorities When.........Where....

And as for the other comments she is coming out with---"A Thai (Buddhist said )..."Its OK she will be back in 30 days as someone else"

I don't think the murder trial was conducted that well........I have definite doubts about the convicted....but this has to be recognised for what it is......pure fantasy.

You wouldn't believe that anyone of Authority" could say anything along the lines of that " It wouldn't happen to an ugly girl" or "No Thai would be capable of such a crime "...either though !

Oh, and as for some of the Buddist monks here....how about the feted one advocating blowing up a mosque for every Buddist killed in the South ?

  7. They should have been far more forceful with the farmers (and of course compensate them for not growing) a farmer uses 40x more water as a normal person. Water should be available for everyone.. not just taken by farmers and industry. First the normal people then Industry and farmers, drinking water trumps all others.

Yes BKK needs water as its a big city quite normal.

Anyway they were talking that farmers could not grow rice.. but they still did. They also should have told the farmers they would be compensated for not growing.. bad of the government not to do both.. With one hand stopping the farmers from growing rice and compensating them with the other.. it would have helped a lot. Now its too late and the harvest will fail and the water is wasted.

How much water does the average hotelier use in BKK ? Would help if they empty all those swimming pools.. and what about golf courses? Where do tourists and leisure seekers fit in your list of priorities ?

  8. Alas, they have all become too dependent on the populist strategies of the Thaksin era.

If any have implemented H.M. the King's idea of Por Pieng (self sufficiency) they'd be able to live off the proceeds easily. I have seen some planting fruit trees such as Durian and Pomelo in the rubber forests and keep fish in ponds, they easily survive. If people only plant one crop (the North mainly Lamyai, The South mainly rubber, the middle mainly rice) how can they imagine to survive if prices go down. Por Pieng is the way to go. Our visionary King has made this clear LONG AGO.

But then they wouldn't have new pick-ups to drive or the latest mobile phones to use. They would ,however, most probably be happier.Like it or not though ,Thailand as a country is evolving and embracing materialism.
