  1. Hello farming folk :)

First I don't have any ideas on forresting and trees but I have a question about "Mai Pradoo" wood or Mai pradu = Nara Wood (Pterocarpus indicus)

One of our family members has a problem with a village neighbour. My familiy member has a unused small land plot in a remote area. A neighbor in the village bought a small land plot beside the land plot of my familiy member. As far as I understand the purpose of buying the land was only because the neighbor wanted to cut of a big tree on his land to build a new wooden house. The thing is that the tree is actually not on his land it was in the land of our family member. The neighbor already cutted the tree and slices it into logs. Now our family member wants money for the tree because the tree is actually on his land plot. The neighbor doesn't want to pay and accussed my family member that he maybe illegally moved his cross-pillar or border sign ( I don't know how you call it in english - I mean the small official seal in the ground which declares the land borders). And the neighbour want someone from the department of land come and check this.

My question is now if someone know how much the wood of the tree is worth? As I said already, it is an Mai Pradu tree. Age was around 19 years old. I have never seen the tree. I just saw the the logged tree stump this morning. I would say a good 80cm diameter.

  2. Where is the problem? As far as I understand the money is used for charity reasons. He got his 1111 and a charity got 25mio THB.

    Charity??? clap2.gifcheesy.gifw00t.gif

The money from the auction will be contributed to the Road Safety Fund and other campaigns for safe driving and helping the disabled who are victims of road accidents.

  3. Dont expect miracles about surfing on EU and US servers. The 30mbit just allows you to download with higher bandwidths and you will probably get better connections to thai server because of the fiber line (a few MS better Ping times) but this doesn't mean that your browsing experience on websites outside of thailand will be faster then with the 590THB 10mbit DSL from 3bb. It is just more bandwidth which you get but you will still share the same line with all other 3bb customers on international traffic.

It is like a Tollway in Bangkok with easy pass. With your easy pass you will maybe get quicker to the tollhouse but after that you drive again with all other cars on the same road. And if the traffic jam is behind the tollhouse you will stuck with everyone.

About your question about wifi. It will makes no difference if you use DSL or Fiber. It is about your wifi access point and how good and far away your clients (laptops and tablets) are from the wifi access point.

  4. For the first entry you don't need a visa for Thailand because is less than 30 days.

For the second entry you can get tourist visa in Medan approx 1,000 Baht, or enter visa exempt and get and extension at immigration 1,900 Bhat, or pay 2 days overstay fine 1,000 Baht.

In any case you do not entry a double entry visa.

This is correct. But in case if you change any of your dates it can be difficult so I would suggest more to get the double entry visa and play safe. I don't see any reason why you should not get the double entry visa at in HCMC/Saigon Vietnam or Phnom Penh in Cambodia.

I think you read so much here about Vientiane and Laos because it is the preferred place for visa run tours to get visa for long stayers. But I guess in your case you can do it everywhere or have you been in Thailand before and did visa runs with your current passport?

  5. Thanks guys for some great responses - much appreciated. I am now in the process of making our preparations for our move to Thailand next month ('our' = me, Thai wife and our kids). We already have a company set up with the wife as MD and me as a director. One thing I need to sort is my visa (hence my original question). From your responses it looks like I have 3 choices ->

    1. Non-Immigrant O

Just come in on this initially and let the wife sign for everything so I won't be doing any work for the company. Then as and when I need to become active in the company apply for a Type B and WP.

    2. Non-Immigrant B

Accept that I will be working for the company and apply for a type B visa and Work Permit.

In this case what documents will I need to provide ?

    3. Just use usual 30d tourist visa initially and sort out visa (and WP if necessary) when I am over there.

Doesnt the company needs to have at least 2 employee to get the WP?

  6. Maybe this is just the next big thing what is going to be forbidden. About 1 1/2 months ago I was the first one here saying that my family visit extension was denied because I have an ED visa. Everyone here said the IO was wrong and I should go to another Immigration or ask for supvervisor. So in the last few weeks other in the forum came up with the same thing that their extension was refused with an ED visa.

Let us hope that they will not start to deny Non "O" with family visa who can't afford the 1 year extension. Because I have a feeling it starts right now.

  7. Can someone explain if this is normally in most countries that you need "financial requirements" to be able to stay with your wife or children .

    the UK for one...wink.png

I see this some hot news in UK.

    http://www.theguardian.com/law/2014/jul/11/appeal-court-18600-foreign-spouse-uk

and putting this into a Thai persepctive thats nearly THB 1.0m/yr income required in the UK, Thailand only requires THB 400k

so maybe the Thai requirements not so bad ?...

Thailand average Income 13200THB (about 250 GBP) http://www.tradingeconomics.com/thailand/wages

UK average income about 2100 GBP (110.000 THB) http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/ashe/annual-survey-of-hours-and-earnings/2013-provisional-results/stb-ashe-statistical-bulletin-2013.html

I would more say that into a Thai perspective this should be more like 100k THB if you compare the benefits of getting a 1 year thai extension and a visa for living in the UK.

And one more important thing is that in UK the UK part needs to have the income proof to allow the foreign citizen to stay which seems in my eyes more realistic because the financial requirements are based on the UK income. But in Thailand the requirements are based on a sum which is nearly 4x times higher then the average income.

  8. SO...when do they realise that, if they can do it so easy for anyone they want to, WHY isnt this available to us who are married to a Thai and supporting most of the family as well

lets put another persepctive on "easy" shall we, some who is married can put 400k in the bank and have an annual extension of stay for the rest of their natural life, therefore the married option this is cheaper and one could argue easier than paying 500k for 5 years and at the end of 5 years having to pay again, so over the long term TE is more expensive and BTW everyone does 90 day reports even the TE holders...wink.png

Yeah, I'm not married and I have no plans to ever get married, especially not for a visa.

I'm going to earn a load more money over the next 20 years or so and I plan to keep hold of it for myself, there will be none of that 50/50 crap for me.

That is good for you. Really 5 years ago I would have thought similar. Maybe you will also experience like me that sharing your life and income with someone can be even more great then having it just for yourself :)

Are you married? Do you have children? I would say it is a totally different thing to compare that you pay 500k to get a 5 year permit and having family here and must hope that you are still able to stay with your loved ones next year and been remembered every year that you are only allowed if you show $$$

  10. Can someone explain if this is normally in most countries that you need "financial requirements" to be able to stay with your wife or children if you are a foreigner and never be able to get PR? I just checked malaysia visa situation in the last few days. If you have a spouse over their you get 5 year extension if you are married or having a child in Malaysia. And they make absolutely no difference if you are male or female. Also you are able to get work permit with just a very minimum restrictions... founding a company and work for yourself is also possible.
