  1. What this thread tells me, regardless of whether the knee defender is polite or not, is how miserable long distance flights have become.

I like the fact that the knee defender is in existence, not because it's use is good or bad, but because maybe it will cause the airlines to pause, momentarily, from reducing the pitch between seats to a distance that is a problem for them (fights/arguments between passengers, having to teach the flight attendants to recognize the knee defender,etc.). We can only hope.

I don't think it will cause airlines to rethink their strategies.

The fact is as long as the ticket price, regardless of comfort offered, remains the number one priority for passengers, airlines know they can get away with delivering a substandard service, and to be honnest why shouldn't they.

  2. The sad thing is that the predominantly British media conveniently forgets that the damage was a puncture which can easily be repaired but that Lewis drove much to fast to get to the pits which

caused the damage to the cars bodywork.

Even one of the commentators said so as Lewis raced to the pits.

It's the Vettel/Webber controversy all over again.

  3. I like the wrapping, can see instantly if its been tampered and is in my opinion an excellent cheap deterrent.

I always have my checked lugage shrinkwrapped plus I write my name on 2 sides with permanent marker (big size) for easy recognition since more and more passengers

    are having them wrapped.

The amount of Macho comments here is amazing. Explains why so many farangs choose to live in Thailand.

Well explain the reason behind lady parking areas at malls.

All I can see is the designated area is usually on a lower level so the ladies don't have to go round and round - can't have that can we.

or is it somethiing else - it's too tiring to walk 50 meters, it's too hot, they have too many bags?

If we had a men's parking area (even if it was more inconvenient) the whole world would be screaming discrimination but ....

Probably because some european airports already have a ladies parking and they obviously think that's a good idea.

If you don't believe me check-out Frankfurt Airport's website for one.

p.s. I for one don't mind pampering the ladies but then again I'm old fashioned.

  5. Hamiltons car failed again ... they must be really worried if they have to cause it to catch fire so that Rosberg can win ... the only way that he can beat Hamilton!!!!

Wonder what the papers will say tomorrow,

Hasd it ever occured to you that maybe Hamiltons driving style and setup preferences are more detrimental to the car than Rosbergs.

Case in point was Canada with both drivers facing the same problem, Rosberg nursed the car to a 2nd place finish whereas Hamilton didn't finish at all.

    Just saying

p.s. None of the biased expert commentators have noticed it, or maybe they did but are not allowed to spoil the Hamilton show.

Is it not common knowledge now that you go upstairs to Departures to get a cab and avoid all the scammers and fare loaders?

Mate, have you had a read of this?

Maybe the situation has changed these past few months?

    It changed a year ago.

Sorry, guys... it did not, same as usual!
I arrived yesterday at swampy and just went up to the dept level and grabbed a taxi home as I usally did, and will also keep doing until there is a real reform to the AoT controlled taxi mafia at the airport!

Or in other words until they drop the 50 Baht surcharge.

  7. Have to agree with Craigt3365 on this one except for the sweet spot. I found that for flights to and from Europe it's about 3 months beforehand.

Can possibly find a cheaper flight later on but the odds are very slim indeed.

Don't know if flights to South America follow the same trends but would surprise me if they didn't.

Check out the booking sites and once you've decided check the airlines website, might give you the same rate or even cheaper in some cases, since some of the booking sites are late on specials.

Even local travel agents sometimes have interesting alternatives.

    Good luck

  8. Pattaya is great as long as you avoid the beer bars, tattooed poms, Germans in black socks and sandals and dudes with their ladyboy dates

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Is it only Germans in black socks you seem to have a problem with, or all Germans ?

    Just asking.

  9. Does anyone know if there are better maps of the new terminal than the ones provided on the airport website? The maps of the departure area show only the central shopping hub and one of the departure areas. A map of the whole floor would be useful for orientation.

Just as an afterthought, has anyone been through there yet? Any sage advice, tips, criticisms?

Haven't been through yet, but I've read that the businessclass lounges are still not ready and will take another 3 months or so.

Heh! That won't affect me. I seriously considered buying us business class tickets this time (as I get older, comfort becomes more important!), but in the end I couldn't justify the extra €3000 for a bit more comfort. So it's cattle class for us.

But I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's transited Hamad, and what their impressions were.

Just search for Hamad International Airport on Youtube. There are a few short vids available that might give you a first impression.

  11. I'm one of those that follow the rules especially since here in Thailand it's easy enough compared to my home country.

I have no problem with those that don't.

I find it however ridiculous that it's them that cry the loudest when they're found out.

And regarding the jealousy argument, it's the retirees that suffer the brunt of abuse here on Thaivisa.

  12. Look at attached itinerary, it's 5Hrs50 minutes. These published flight times are from gate to gate. In MCT the boarding is still by bus, so from gate to lift-off is about 20 Minutes.

That's what I mentioned in my OP from lift-off !

Anyway it's not that important, good you enjoyed your flight.

  13. Flew with them from Muscat to Bangkok a couple of months back, in business class.

    I was impressed.

    I hear you smile.png

The only drawback is that the flight MCT/BKK is to short tongue.png

    Yermanee wai.gif

Six hours plus was long enough for me.

Wow the pilot must have had the brakes on for your flight.

My last flight in May it took exactly 5 hours and 5 minutes from lift-off till gate in BKK (with favorable wind).
