His comments sure do not help to bring tourists here I am surprised he has not been told to be quiet.
Maybe the current administration wants Thailand to be a hermit kingdom so they have to do as necessary to discourage travel there.
So far, it appears to be working

In the US, it went from 100k to 800k a day in 6 weeks and then back down to 100k in 4 weeks. Took off like a rocket, peaked quick and fell quicker. Between Omicron and the other variants, over half the population has probably had COVID at least once

They need to get rid of all tests after arrival if they want tourists to come back. Post-arrival tests achieve nothing in the greater scheme of things, apart from making it too risky for any holidaymakers to fly to Thailand.
And if they want a shot at a reasonably successful high season this year, they need to get rid of them now and start to rebuild trust and confidence that a holiday to Thailand is not unnecessarily risky.

Thailand likely has millions of cases of Omicron active right now. It will dissipate at it's own pace. In the meantime, drop both arrival tests and the insurance scam now and maybe by the end of the year, the world will start to feel more confident about taking a holiday in Thailand

not a surprising result considering that most of the participants likely fall into the old/fat/comorbidity group who are likely to die if they got infected.
Even that group likely has a 98% or better survival rate

I doubt there's a single Thai University in the top 500 globally

Catching foreign tourists with covid is a big earner which is why they put so much effort into it with multiple tests and also allow them to go out and mingle for 5 days just to make sure they have the best chance to get infected
...And if the falang doesn't get infected in that 5 days of mingling, there's ways around that too!

Maybe they will eventually settle on the right thing....after they try everything else first

"The compliance would effectively contain the disease everywhere......"
Not testing seems to be the most effective way to "contain" the virus

No need to close the borders when the disincentives are already in place to deter tourist travel into the Kingdom

Most who have had COVID likely never knew they had it.

Skip the testing on arrival altogether. There's nothing a fully vaxed and tested prior to departure visitor will bring into the country that isn't already there in numbers far greater than the government has been quoting

I'll give Boris credit if he changed after being caught violating his policy. In the US, politicians that get caught like that usually double down on their hypocrisy.

Interestingly Phuket hoteliers seems to already have raised their prices... that will surely help them getting them fully booked, can't beat their logic.
You mean when there's unlimited supply and almost zero demand, you don't raise the prices?? lol

The understatement of figures must now be huge that there is no point in even looking at the official numbers that give no clue as to what is happening. A peak with Thailand's population should look similar to or more than the UK which was over 100k and was probably massively understated too. I know several people in the UK who caught omicron. Since they were retired and not living with vulnerable people, they just tested at home and didn't bother to report it.
With all the testing done in the US, the CDC estimates only 1 in 4 infections were identified between Feb 2020 -Sept 2021. It's probably 1 in 10 or much higher with Omicron. Looking at the chart and Thailand's testing vs the UK & US, one can only imagine how many actual infections there are
