"less wealthy forced to forgo vacations abroad as travel seems to become something only the rich can afford."

The plan to have quality wealthy tourists only, who will spend a trillion Baht each is coming along nicely.

No more poor smelly dirty farangs please thank you.

If those "quality wealthy tourists" weren't coming pre-COVID when ingress/egress and movement was unobstructed, why do the Govt brainiacs think they will come knowing their entire experience while here will now be encumbered by unpredictable govt rules?

???? These guys...at some point someone has to explain to them how low class it is to say such things out loud.

It is fine at a board meeting to say we want these types & then of course figure out how they will attract them & why they would choose such a place as Thailand these days over all the truly open

(no apps, no pcr on arrival, no quarantine etc)  free countries in the world.

Believe it or not Thailand no longer represents value in any real way to rich or poor tourists.(aka: cheapskates in TAT )

They seem to genuinely believe that the entire world is clamoring to get into Thailand and the only thing holding these tourists back is their own home country's travel restrictions

So why not just provide the details and we can all stop guessing? If the details provided proof of how deadly Omicron was don't you think they would have released that? It certainly fits their narrative of how we all need to get the booster and hide behind the sofa for a few more months.

The paucity of detail tells me everything I need to know.

I agree. The first thing I thought about when they reported it was the lack of any detail regarding the age and circumstances

They need to give details, not just scare people. Just saying someone died "with" Omicron sounds suspiciously like an 85 year old with terminal cancer got hit by a truck and later tested positive at the morgue.

If that's not the case, let's hear the details. Were they a fit 20 something sportsman that was genuinely killed by the virus? Without the details, I have my doubts. People just want transparency so they can make informed decisions about the risk themselves and act accordingly. Not be spun a half baked story that is used to lock them in their homes.

Likely, if the individual was under....say 50, it would have been in the headlines

Running the #s, 72% or 93.5 million, is 67.32 mill getting 1st shot (finding hard to believe) meaning most of Thai population had 1 shot.

Leaves 26 million doses, meaning only 13 million are fully vax'd, and more believable.  Krung Thep metro alone has an 8+ million population.

Or 72% of population (50 ish million) have had 1 shot, leaving 43 mill doses for 21 ish million fully vaccinated.

Think something lost in translation myself...or not.  Hopefully the latter, for those wanting.

41.7M 2nd doses as of Dec 01. Another 6.8M with single dose. I assume by "2nd dose", they mean fully vaxed. That would

    be about 60%

Ok it confirms their official statistic of 53.9% of the population double dosed as in the first slide I posted. The 12 - 17 year age group is already included in that figure, they calculate the number of adolescents in that age group to be 4.5 million out of a total population of 72 million.

I agree with that number (54%). But it's based on the total population of 70 million which includes those under 12 years old as well. My original comment above that you replied to ("..Thailand currently has 77% fully vaxed if you exclude under 12's...")  was a response to a comment referencing the population over 12 years old vaxed in Canberra, Australia. As I also mentioned , I should have said 65% as my math was wrong

You better let the CCSA know, in their slide today in the situation update they said it was 53.9%, that is the "official number"

They are reporting the numbers based on the total population, not the eligible (ie: 12 years and older) population.  If you note the context of my original reply to CygnusX1 above, we were referencing "eligible" population

Thailand at 77% fully vaxxed is way off base. Its on its way but a long way yet before it gets anywhere near that figure for fully vaxxed of the target population (not including children and adolescents)

Thailand is now at 54.23% double dosed.

Assuming about 15% of the population is under 12 years old, that leaves an eligible population of about 60M.  That gives 65% of the eligible population currently fully vaxed currently so I botched my math
