  1. Go for it - let us know how you get on.

A few things that stopped me from getting a visa.

    1. the company I work for cancelled my work permit electronically and have no cancellation slip.

    2. I've had 400k in the bank for more than 2 months but because I moved it from one account to another they would not except it.

    3. I am already overstay by 2 weeks.

Because of these things the only option they gave me was to leave the country.

Off for a mini bus ride tomorow to get my NON O in Penang.

Thanks for your advice ....it was definitely worth a try...

    Good luck.

  2. I continue to run into problems with the timing of my O-A Non Immigrant Visa (Long Stay) application process

I only spend six months (Nov-May) in Thailand so the only practical Visa for me is a Multi Entry O-A, every other year, but this plan is becoming increasingly difficult to implement

I have been in contact with the Thai Consulate in New York and they state that they can only issue the Visa based upon my application date, not my travel date, so I must apply at the last minute and hope that nothing goes wrong during the process.

In order to get the second year of stay out of the Visa I must arrive in Thailand before the Visa expiration date to obtain the "extra" year. I missed it this time since my last Visa was issued on 25 September 08 and expired 24 September 09 since I could not return to Thailand before the 24th. I spend $175 for the Visa (multiple entry) I thought that it might be a better idea to just get the single entry version for $65 since I may not be able to arrive in LOS before the expiration date of this years Visa

Well that plan won't work since I have been told that the only O-A Visa that New York will issue me is the Multiple Entry version at $175, even though the MFA web site shows the cheaper version (of course the MFA site gives it in Baht)

What do the experts here think? Is New York Consulate wrong and I should just apply to the Embassy in Washington for a O-A, Long Stay, Single Entry or just suck up the $175 every year

Apply at a different Consulate in the USA. The Embassy is unlikely to apply different rules than NY. It is really up to the head of each individual post or mission to set the rules.

  3. What bothers me is that if you now send in the FBAR under the Amnesty Program, you will be considered a tax evader. Like most retirees here I have to keep 800KB in a Thai account, which has been transferred directly from my US account. Since this amount has already been taxed to death in the US (income tax, ss tax, capital gains tax, etc.), I am concerned that they will want to tax it again. I don't generate work income here or in the US, file the 1040 each year, but have never checked the box for having a foreign bank account. According to the FBAR FAX on the irs.gov site, I have to send the FBARs in by Sept 23rd (did last week), but also send copies of the FBARs plus tax returns to another investigative office. It sounds to me like I am building a case against myself. The question is if you are sending $24k directly from a US account into a Thai account for a retirement visa, how is that evading taxes? If anyone knows a cpa here in Thailand or in the US who would answer emails, please provide an email address.

As an aside I contacted five US citizens living in Samui and asked them if they had filed an FBAR and checked their 1040. They all said they hadn't and on top of that hadn't filed a 1040 since they left the US. They all travel back and forth to the US and have never had a problem. They all just said, "Hey, relax and don't worry about it -- f..k the US." I am trying to follow US law and frankly am a nervous wreck.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You only need the 800,000 in the bank here for the 3 months before you renew your retirement visa each year.

  4. Its illegal to have a thai visa issued in KL without meeting in Embassy in person, according to posters in KL Embassy.

KL embassy does not have visastamps. they issue official visa stickers in passport

Why would anyone go to KL in a minibus at 4500 baht, when airasia roundtrip is less than 2500 baht?

Are you sure of this.. Its long been standard practice to use agents in Penang.. Seems strange that its so different.

Absolutely sure what the posters state in KL. Been there 4 times a year for some years, last time mid august.

Could have changed since. But if so, why pay 4900 or 6900 for something costing 1900 or 3900 multiple entry one year? Hazzlefree if proper docs, illegal if docs not proper.

I believe Penang have other rules as independent, not run by thai government

Illegal is not the correct term.. Visas are issued by the embassy / consuls discretion.. Where one embassy wont issue a non imm another might, doesnt make the issuing of that non imm illegal, just means they apply different standards.

I would be baffled why anyone would pay those fees unless it was to process the application without the normal standards that embassy applies being adhered to.

As most expats know.. Theres ways to get almost anything done without leaving the country at all.. That one is illegal (visa issued while your in Thailand, passport crossing borders without you, the list goes on) but blame the officials that profit from it not the customers.

EDIT ::: Later posts made it clear that the person wasnt leaving the country.. But even so those prices are not far shy of the actual non imm visa application price !!

Dp you mean that the punters are blissfully unaware of the illegality of sending their passports abroad for a visa without them physically being there themselves ? The use of Penang based agents doing the running for you while you are in Malaysia is an altogether different thing. ie. it's legal. Like in the west, ignorance of the Thai law is no defence in a Court of Law.

  5. I've handled her ...er I've dealt with her ... er, she's gone and won't bother you now. :D Got the same PM last night and I thought I was the only handsome man.

If members get this type of spam, just PM a mod/admin or e-mail support[at]thaivisa.com with a copy of the PM and action will be taken.

    //moved to forum support

I did not get one from ' her ... er, she's'

Sad really. 'skipvice ' gets a PM, but me nix as I am not a 'handsome man.' :D

    Yours truly,

    Kan Win :D

I didn't feature in her sweet messages either. :)

  6. If both tennants of the joint acct are applying for extension and there is sufficieint funds for 2 persons the bank will issue aletter for each of the joint tennants. If there is a joint acct and a single applicant for extension then there are some issues that may be solved by your Embassy providing you with a letter certifing your income.

Would his Thai girlfriend really be applying for a Thai visa ? :)

  7. How does your friend qualify for an O visa? Most people have a hard time getting them.

IF his 'friend ' was smart enough to get a Non O he'd be smart enough to know how it works. Mind you, the OP isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and may well be our newest troll.

Why would you think he is not smart? Because English is not his first language?

Have a reread of his offering.

  8. I got my 2 entry visa today in Vientiane. I have one 3 entry visa from Helsinki and two 2 entry visas from Vientiane before that.

Today I also got red stamp beside my visa:

"Remark: The holder has travelled to Thailand with Tourist Visa 9 times. The Embassy may not accept the application next time"

Classic T.I.T........hey, lets give out free visas to encourage tourism, but we don't actually want you to apply for one, and really we don't want you here at all, we're doing just fine without you!.....hmmm

NINE tourist visa's :) Hardly a genuine tourist.
