  1. ...If I can venture a guess at what is going to happen, some people with red stamp will just up and go for good, some will arrange a different type of visa one way or another (I predict a lot of people will go for the 3 years business visa, married people will push through their non-O, people will set up more fake companies for visa purposes) and a large group will simply wait and see, and try for a new tourist visa in spite of the red stamp. At that point 6 months will have gone by and the Thai government will have to decide if they are going to hold the course or if their real objective has been reached. I think an important factor will be whether or not the tourism industry will have recovered by then. According to yesterday's Chiang Mai Mail, Chiang Mai alone reports 700,000 tourists less than the previous year and that figure is expected to reach a million by the end of the year. A strong clamp down is certainly not going to help.

Getting a 3 year visa is not a breeze. They are in the 'hens teeth' category. A simple front company won't make the support grade for the applicant.

  2. I think UKMatt has the right idea. You guys need to realize that you are old and these girls are interested solely in your money. You are not handsome, funny, intelligent, nor do you have any redeeming qualities whatsoever besides your bank account balance. Its harsh but just imagine if OP realized this all before, he would not be in this terrible situation.

PACK SQUIRE. You may well be moving out of ThaiVisa.

  3. Are sure many go to the trouble of registering in thier home country? You have answereed your own question anyway as the marriage is legal and recognised in Australia even though registered in Thailand. All you need is a certified translation of the marriage certificate.

Right in every respect. Australia has no legal requirement for any form of registration of a Thai marriage.

  4. Hi,

Just joined. I have been coming to thai for a few years and now getting ready to move there for retirement. I will be living in Roi Et and will be using this forum to get as much information as I can. I have done some homework already but I believe you can always learn something new.

Hope some of the information I have learnt will be useful for someone and as I said I am sure I will learn some valuable information as well.

Welcome. The members will guide you along with visa stuff etc. Enjoy it.

  5. I don't think you'd end up out of pocket. Worse case scenario would be questioning and a (possibly considerable esp. in India) delay.

Actually the Indian supplement market is MASSIVE and customs are now used to people carrying these products into he country for personal consumption.

Sealed containers are best as they clearly state constitution.

Ziplock bags with coloured powders will surely result in some drama if you have been stopped and asked to display contents of bags.

Stuff like creatine etc is best dumped in a container of multivitamins.

Try taking protein into Australia..sheesh! The nigerians probably have it easier taking in the talcum powder :)

The Australian's Xray all baggage and it shows 'em whether it is animal, vegetable or mineral.

  6. I don't know which part of Thailand you get your driving licences from "pjclark1" but I cannot agree with you on at least two points you make in your posting.

    1. two photos required. No photos needed nowadays as they take them at the Licencing centre.

    2. 2nd renewal is for life. I just did my second 5 year renewal which is valid for a further 5 years. Not for life as you state.

I renewed my licences yesterday and you can read my report in the 'pinned' section of this forum.

Also, if your immigration office is one that is still prepared to issue a 'residence certificate', it should be free of charge... you paid 500 baht??? :)

Even Thai's are not issued with life licences any more. It is a one year first passport, and thereafter 5 year renewals.

  7. Ive had my TDL from day one with a tourist visa. Never a question asked. Got it in Nong Khai mind you. So, it expires tomorrow. Its the one year one. Is it really the case that I cannot renew it until it's expired?

Yup. It must be expired. You can apply for a 5 year one this time. ( but the rules state you have to hold a Non-Immigrant visa )

  8. Hi folks.

    A short update.

I am living back in the house in question, she is in one of her houses in BKK.

Apart from a slight glitch end of August, when I was away for a couple of days she returned and changed locks again. I had to get the police to enforce the court order, she packed a bag and went off in a huff.

Apart from that it's nice not having to pay rent again.

    All's well that ends well.
