  1. The problem, of course, is thus far, we have one CAT fiber customer reporting terrific speeds... one indirectly reporting lousy speeds.... and no one else using CAT fiber reporting...

So given that CAT, I gather, is asking for one-year service commitments, you could find yourself either a very happy or very angry CAT customer, it seems...

With True, at 600 to 1000 a month, I can put up with some grief and headache... But for 8,900 per month for Platinum, CAT had better be good as gold guaranteed...

BTW... in his earlier post today, Shariq alluded almost in passing to "frequent disconnects" -- something I don't recall him mentioning in his previous comments.

I guess to sum it up thus far re CAT fiber... I'll say I'm intrigued... but far from persuaded or convinced.... We just don't have enough information or direct reports....

Personally, if we could figure out what areas they're actually serving (which we can't thus far), I might be willing to give one of their lower priced plans a try...

But right now, I've already got two ISP plans... one True cable and one True DSL as a backup.... So I'm not looking to take on a 3rd ISP. Someone else would need to be the guinea pig here...

Actually cat is one of the company which dont care about advertising there products if you call them once and ask them information they would simply tell you all you need to know, there sales team wont call you 5 times a day like true and 3bb marketing team does, Regarding cheaper plans i did mention in my previous post that the cheaper plans dp have same speeds in thailand however different in international. the guy who is working for one of the cat branches told me that the silver plan which ranges from 1500 baht to 3500 baht has a max speed of 1 mb to international servers and as you upgrade to gold or higher it increases however when i asked them about the platinum international speeds they told me 5-10 mb range which i considered good at that time but heck no this is not 5-10 mb range i am getting 22-23 mb range internationally from my 25 mb plan thats <deleted> AMAZING however i am scared to call them and ask why i am getting these speed since i am afraid they would throttle me back down similar to my friend.

Regarding my friend, he has been an unhappy customer since all he needed was a better international speed connection turns out to be similar to true Adsl speeds for Premium price

he has Been to the cat office and they told him this is what he should be getting

i suggested him calling ntc to file a complain and ntc told him to take speedtests and write a complain and send them to there email and they will reply within 7 days However when he will do speedtest on thai servers of-course he would be getting max speed so its useless to talk to them

Ohh one more thing i never got more then 200-250 Kb range when downloading torrents even with the best seeds possible

  2. Update

Before i was on Cat 20/3 plan as i applied last month today i got a call from cat said they have upgraded me to 25/3 plan

And the technician came my home to check the power of my fiber he said my line is overpowered, i asked him what he means and he told fiber are designed for long distances such as 9-10 km

so me being opposite to there branch my fiber distance is lower then 500 meter and he said this could explain the frequent disconnects as the power is very high for the modem to handle

So after a 25/3 upgrade this is what i am getting on LA

    1478477015.png

  3. 17Mb to L.A......Smoking!!!! I'm jealous.

thats in bangkok, i dont know what happen in pattaya them are better with speed with cat or true i dont know

if fiber is not available in pattaya you could try with the cat Hi-net thats basically Adsl using copper wires i am sure they have that in pattaya

  4. here is a speedtest of my friend

1476990422.png he has contacted cat and they are saying that this is what he should be getting and they cant guarantee unsure.gif

That's not good... I'm paying 599 a month for a backup True 7 Mbps DSL plan...and doing that well or better....

Don't suppose CAT is offering to give him his money back....

Is he REALLY on the same CAT OnNet Platinum plan as you???

yes he is using the Same Package as me i am 101% sure we signed the same package on same day same time

In fact i am more sure since the user name which was given to him ends with @platinum same like me so that means he is also on the same account as me

Yea, if I was your friend I would be mad in not getting more international speed than that, especially at 8900 baht/month. I see he did the test above at 7:12GMT today, which would be 2:12pm/today Bangkok time. I just did a test on my True cable 20Mb/2Mb plan at 10:36GMT/today which is 5:36pm/today Bangkok time and got over a 4Mb speed to L.A., and I'm now closer to primetime evening hours versus his mid afternoon test which should have been less busy. But with Sunday's the only real day most Thais have off from work and school, maybe anytime on Sunday is busy/lots of users.

Normally, a person can get out of contract a lot easier within the first 30 days of a contract if the person can prove the internet service is not living up to its advertisement....but I expect CAT don't advertise/guarantee an international speed...only in-Thailand speed. I wouldn't want to be paying 8900 baht/month for only 3Mb speed to the U.S. Heck, I would consider that almost highway robbery with all the much lower cost ADSL//Cable plans which can equal or exceed 3Mb speed to the U.S. Here's my L.A. test from 5:36pm today/Sunday afternoon..

    1477179194.png

Here is my speedtest on the same server at about 6.20 pm

  6. So I'm trying to follow along with the info Shariq has posted...

If I'm tracking the various posts correctly, he seems to be saying he's got one of CAT's Platinum plans.. sounds like either the 25/3 or 35/3 versions. He mentioned paying 8,900 baht per month.

On the CAT price chart I posted above, it shows their 25/3 Platinum plan at 8.900 baht and their 35/3 Platinum plan at 11,900 baht.... Perhaps Shariq can clarify here just what service he's got...

In any event, thus far, he's posted one speed test to Chicago with about a 12 Mbps download, and a couple from the West Coast using a different speed test site with a 16-17 Mbps speeds...

If he's got the 25 Mbps plan, then at 16-17 Mbps he'd be getting about 65% of his rated plan speed based on the West Coast tests...

If he's got the 35 Mbps plan, then he'd be getting a bit under 50% of his rated plan speed...

That compares to True cable's rate of 25% to 35%.... obviously for substantially lower cost.

Of course, the troublesome part is....he's also reporting a friend with supposedly the same CAT plan who's only getting 3-5 Mbps down.

yup i am using the 25/3 plan however when i applied for it last month the 8900 baht was for a 20/3 plan now they have upgraded to 25/3 for same price so i am not sure which one i am getting as yet since i didn't ask them yet

I am getting good i speeds both locally and internationally however i am trying to get my friend to do a speedtest so he can send me to it and i can post it here of what he is getting

  7. Indeed, True seems to be terrible about being able to accurately diagnose whether any particular address is cable internet serviceable or not... The people in their shops are clueless on that score... The ones on the phone, if you can get through, not much better.

There are a couple things for certain, though... One is that if someone's home CANNOT receive TrueVisions cable TV, then they also cannot receive True cable internet. Unfortunately, the reverse isn't always true... There are apparently some areas that can get cable TV, but aren't provisioned yet for cable internet...

But at least, as a starting point, if the location can get True cable TV, you at least have something to talk with them about re cable internet service. True also has had a web page where they listed, supposedly, the different sois that are cable internet serviceable...

BTW, re the CAT On Net fiber service, here's another CAT page with a bit more info that translates from Thai reasonably well using Google translate or similar. Thanks to Pib for the link above that ended up taking me to this one below.

    http://www.catintern.../cat_onnet.html

Ahaa!!! I found the sign up documents as pdf files here on this CAT web site...and they are bilingual, so they do explain some of the details like the one year contract.

    http://www.catintern...h/download.html

Gold CAT ON Net for 0211.pdf

Gold Plus CAT ON Net for 0211.pdf

Platinum CAT ON Net for 0211.pdf

Platinum Plus 1 IP CAT ON Net for 0211.pdf

    reg_onnet_thai.pdf

Silver CAT ON Net for 0211.pdf

yup these is the same form i signed when applying for the service please be advised if your current internet is working great do not try to switch services as this could make it worse and also you would be stuck with a contract As Pib and many other mentioned location location makes a big difference regarding the quality of your connection i may have been receiving good result since my house is just next to cat office. one of my friend who signed up with me for the same package is getting same speeds on international side as true adsl or true cable are getting.

  8. old habits die hard, i meant true online.

At any rate it has been a week and repeated calls to upgade to cable, and the sales agent has still not contacted me.

Unfortunately, that seems to be pretty standard in my experience with their True Online cable internet operation...

I went thru the same kind of thing when I first wanted to sign up... multiple posts on that long ago in this very thread...

You'd think they'd be more interested in taking more of your money as a customer...but they're pretty mai bpen rai about it, for sure...

If you persist, you'll eventually get through... Or, forget the phone calls, and head down to a True shop that handles True Online and do it in person.

Just be prepared for them to tell you... we don't serve your street... even though they probably do...

it not only depends on street it also depends on how far your house is from the last supported pole also since true allows max of 100 meters from the last pole and if they tell you sorry your house is more then 100 meters i would i reckon you to please calculate the distance your self since i have experience where they told me 150 meters and when i calculated my self with the help of my mooban's security guard it turned out to be only 97 exact meters when i told the technician about this he said he would do it for me for 6000 baht laugh.gif lol just to bring wire, Land of scams

  9. Thanks. That explains the really outstanding international speeds--that is, you are basically paying a healthy price for that high international speed. When I was looking at the price chart in your post #371 above I figured the price differences between some of the basically equal speed plans was a higher international bandwidth/speed. Cheers.

yup that seems a possible explanation. Pib you were right about location makes a huge difference in thailand since my mate applied with me on the same day and he is getting full speed in thailand however on international sites only 2-5 mb range and he is blaming me since he was getting the same international speeds with his true line lol he has the exact same package as me . now he has a 1 year contract to golaugh.gif. my great international speed could also be due my house being opposite to the cat branch from where i signed up for it.

What does the DSLReports Speedtester give you to the U.S. Here's the Link again.

I've found recently that the ADSLThailand.com speedtester is much easier fooled by in-Thailand cache servers.

  11. now there are certain drawbacks of this thing if any of you interested to know hit me up

Post the details here... With those kinds of speeds, I'm sure we'd all liked to know what's involved in dealing with CAT...

I'd imagine... but you'd need to say .... that a fiber based system is going to be more reliable than cable, and probably DSL... But with CAT, who knows...

Do they have a web site somewhere for the service, in English or Thai... I searched last night, and couldn't find anything at all... but I was searching using English terms.

the reliability is not much different from my true adsl when it rains hard the light from the modem turns to red which means low power from the node also you are limited to only one modem which is provided by cat and it only has one lan port and no wifi and you cant change the modem since you need to change the mac address from the node and cat dont do that so either keep switching the lan to different computers or use only one computer. also if you download torrents forget about this each and every torrent is throttled i gat a max of 150-200kb/s even on best seeded torrents and same torrent on my true gets me to 650kb/sec and last, certain websites which i could access by true is blocked by cat i also sometimes have problems with loading up thaivisa

now lets come to bright side

1, low ping i am getting pings of 2-5 in thailand

    2, fast browsing

    3 good customer support

Those are definitely outstanding download speeds and the ping times are valid.

Have you tried validating the download speeds gotten using Speedtest.net with another speedtest program such as the DSLReports Speedtester (Link) just to ensure a CAT in-Thailand hidden cache server is skewing/causing inaccurate download speed results? Fooling the DSL Reports Speedtester due to a hidden cache server is suppose to be hard to do.

Also, what is the monthly cost of your CAT Fiber 20Mb/3Mb plan? On the plan/price chart in your other post I saw a Silver 20Mb/2Mb plan for Bt2500, a Gold 20Mb/2Mb plan for Bt6000, and a Platinum 25Mb/3Mb plan for Bt8900. But I didn't see any 20Mb/3Mb plan listed. Thanks.

When i applied last month the platinum which was 8900B had 20/3 but since this month they have upgraded to 25/3 for the same price so i guess now i am using this one, one of my friend who is a manager in one of cat branches told me the difference between these packages such as silver, gold, gold plus and platinum are international speeds, he told me that the silver package has a fixed stable 1 mb to international server as you upgrade to gold or more it increases

  16. I am not using the tot wifi package i just got a fiber to home package which is basically a fiber optic sc single mode connected to some kind of onu AKA optical network unit or a GEPON system and it only has one port of lan so the technician recommended i buy a vpn router

  17. hey everyone,

just got a new connection and the router only has 1 lan port and doesn't have a wifi since i need a wireless connection and many ports to connect my different set of computers, the technician recommended i buy a wireless vpn router

Just wanna know whats a vpn router?

what model and make is good?>

    how much does it cost?

    where can i buy it?

    help appreciated

    thanks

  18. BTW, it's not a very good idea to be using the internet during a thunderstorm.

You sure about this? I would assume you are running the same risk if you are plugged in regardless if you are using the internet or not. If you are talking about the wireless signal that is another story but not sure that this would really attract lighting if you are indoors because so many others things that have a stronger attraction and easier path to ground. Although I'm questioning you, I want to make it clear that I am not arguing with you because I really don't know... but would like to.

Yes, it is a risk because of the added risk of the lightning coming in on/running along the phone/ADSL line....from a lightning strike to your residence or hundreds of meters away (or more) to phone/DSL line circuits such as a electric pole that carries electric and phone lines....or to a junction box...or to a XYZ.

Such a real world event happened to me only three months ago here in Bangkok during a thunderstorm. It was about midnight and I was in bed upstairs but couldn't sleep due to the lightning & thunder...it was bad...the way I was laying on the bed I was looking straight at a set of shelves where my ADSL modem, separate Wifi router, VOIP adapter, and Fax machine set. Suddenly I saw a bright flash of lightning and heard the sound literally at the same time meaning the lightning occurred very, very near. Hell, I nearly jumped out of my skin as if appeared and sounded the lightning occurred directly over my house and probably struck somewhere very, very close...maybe even my house. At that moment in time while looking at above mentioned equipment the lights on all of them went abnormal and the fax machine made a funny noise...I knew that at a minimum some of the devices external/plug-in power adapters had been damaged/smoked.

Next morning, we found out our next door neighbor's house had been struck by lightning....blew up approx 6 cement fiber roof shingle/tiles at the very top of the roof which also allowed rain water in....the neighbors said that lightning strike occurred at around midnight....no doubt the same one that nearly made me jump out of my skin. That morning when trouble shooting my devices, I found out the ADSL modem and its power adapter were smoked, the separate router and its power adapter were smoked, and the VOIP adapter and its separate power adapter were smoked. The fax machined still worked OK since it didn't use a separate power adapter...it just electrically plug directly into the wall power outlet and its fax/phone line input was T-connected off the combination phone/ADSL intenet line. I also found out a cordless phone down stairs no longer worked since its power adapter had been smoked. When I say smoked, I mean the power adapters were completely dead and the modem, router, and VOIP adapter still didn't work once replacing the power adapters as the lightning also damaged their Ethernet input circuits/ports. Fortunately the cordless phone downstairs worked OK after replacing the power adapter. No other electronic/electrical devices in the house plugged into electric power were damaged....no damage to any of the TVs (we had KU and C-band satellite TV at that time), no damage to the TV set-top boxes, no damage to DVDs, fans, air conditioners, microwave, etc...etc...etc. The only things damaged were those items that were directly or indirectly hooked to the phone/DSL line...the phone/DSL line hooked to the modem...the modem hooked to the router....and the VOIP adapter hooked to the router. And with the exception of the fax machine, all the damaged devices were plugged in via power strips with surge protection. The lightning had used the phone/DSL line as part of it electrical path. And even thought the main bolt of lightning hit the neighbor's house, I expect there were plenty of streamers coming off that main bolt...one or more more ot them taking a path through the phone/DSL lines on the poles running along our soi. Never heard if any of my neighbors experienced electrical/electronic device damage like I did...maybe the lightning just found a path into my house only....and to the top of the neighbor's roof.

Oh yea, lightning can get into your home by various methods....electrical lines, phone/DSL lines, external TV antenna, satellite dish, direct strike, etc. Personally, in my long life this is the first time lightning has damaged something in a residence I owned, but while growing up we used an external TV antenna and a couple of times our TV input circuits were smoked by lightning hitting the antenna.

And just a closing note on power strips with surge protection built in, although the packaging may claim protection against lightning, I doubt any of them can handle nearly a direct/direct strike to your residence...surge protectors are primarily geared towards surges caused by power going off and on, high power usage devices such as air conditioners/washing machines/clothes driers/microwaves/etc kicking on which can cause millesecond spikes/surges on the residence's electrical lines, or even if living in a condo where an elevator stops and goes which causes spikes. But no matter what their advertising may say, they cannot protect against the millions of volts/joules generated by a near direct/direct lightning strike.

your post looks scary, lol now i will have unplug everything during rainstorms

  19. Since i have bought my fortunner two years ago i sometimes notice the engine just feels lazy

By lazy i mean it doesn't wanna accelerate as fast as i want it to, now sometimes when i first start the car in the morning and drive it around the city its normal and just accelerates fine

but sometimes in the afternoon when i hit the pedal hard it just doesn't respond as quick

now i dont know if thats normal or its just me

has any of you have similar experiences ?

  20. The 2007 presented in Thailand 2006 looked IMHO great for a boring sedan. Ordered it on the spot, in white pearl. The new one looks boring with a blend of classic and "hybrid" design, and if dynamics (steering and suspension) is same as 2007, its become really dated. Teana and Accord simply performs much better

i dont think so the dynamics are same as 2007 camry.

in fact toyota plus many car magazine reviewers said handling is better then ever and on top spot

also toyota during the launch mentioned there development focus also included handling plus they said they were also aiming the camries at younger crowd

not sure if thai version will be getting the same dynamics as the us version hopefully it will

  21. update

this is my dsl line status now

    noise margin upstream: 20 db

    output power downstream: 20 db

    attenuation upstream: 22 db

    noise margin downstream: 9 db

    output power upstream: 12 db

    attenuation downstream: 34 db

its still shit disconnecting every 10-15 min

i called true and they are more interested in me doing speedtest.net result and send them it to there true online chat

Now whenever i perform speedtest.net the result is always showing me that i am getting full speed but thats just bogus as browsing is so slow and the speed of downloading a file from thai server is only 70 kb/s

i told there english staff that speedtest is showing bogus result but they say its not possible

  22. hey people

since yesterday my hi speed true adsl is randomly disconnecting sometimes it doesn't even connect for a long time i live in suk soi 31

the first time this problem occurred when there were loud thunder storms

yesterday the problem was so bad i had to go to my friends apartment in thong lo to use the internet and he was also having same problems

    DSL Line Status:

    noise margin upstream: 2 db

    output power downstream: 18 db

    attenuation upstream: 23 db

    noise margin downstream: 7 db

    output power upstream: 9 db

    attenuation downstream: 33 db

Any of you experiencing same problems in sukhumvit and thong lo area?

  23. maybe in isaan they are getting honest

lol here in bangkok still all of them greedy old bast***s they never check if your papers or road tax stickers are up to date or even tell you why were you stopped unless you ask them.

Maybe all the corrupts go to bangkok to rip motorists off.

I have been stopped several times they never asked my driving license or check if my paper work is up to date

  24. I recommend csloxinfo. They are not overselling like True does. Yes, their speed is relative low compared to TOT and True but you get this speed on International, not just in Thailand.

How much is TOT Fiber? Just curious?

Actually top fiber 2 u is negotiable kinda similar to bad marketing techniques by california wow

you showoff too much with there sales team you get ridiculous prices

fiber 2 u wont make any difference since isps in thailand are over limiting there amount of available bandwidth
