A mate of mine was told in the last couple of weeks at a Kasikorn branch that the maximum cash withdrawal per day was now 1.5m baht....(and yes I know this is a Krungsri thread before someone mentions it...)

This amount on K-Bank app depends on how much money you have on the bank. But this limit can be much higher if you have more money on the bank.

You can login, but try to use it for a transfer over 50KJ.

I just called them, and they said they can not enable it for foreigners. I asked if a foreigner has a different face, like 5 eyes and 3 mouths, which they confirmed was not the case, so it clearly is just another case of discrimination against foreigners.

My LH Bank I just tried to increase the limit, for which I need facial recognition, which didn't work as usual.

After 5 time outs the app was blocked and told to call 1337. When I called them they had no idea what it was about, and told me they would call me back tomorrow.

That is 2 accounts that will be closed today. Well actually 5, 3 at SCB and 2 at LH Bank, and I will buy more gold.

With LH Bank face recognicion works for me... It was setup at LH bank Branch Asok Terminal 21.
Only the bigger branches could do it. For example the Bangrak branch couldn't to it...

LH = Land and House Bank

I do the same regarding the debit cards.

For credit cards, some western cards have the option of being able to lock the card in the app, so offers additional protection from fraud. I would look at Thai cards to see if they have that. But I don't have any Thai credit cards.

A KTC credit card has this feature to block a card temorary..
The fraud protection is not bad. I only had a problem 1 times till now in about more than 10 years I own Thai credit cards.

And this was handled by the bank very fast. I not even need to do something. They canceled the fraud transaction themselve, called me, to make sure this was a fraud transaction and then canceled the card and sent me a new one. Can't complain.

When travelling with the wife we go through the Thai citizen area together. Would be interesting to know if the pink ID is sufficient if travelling alone.

Last time when I came back to Thailand (2 weeks ago), the Immigration staff told wife has to come first.

So, it's probably only working, when you travel with your wife.. married alone is not enough...

I'm waiting for some first hand information, when a married solo traveler tries to use the Thai counter!

OK - you got me - I just made it all up because I have not got any friends or anyone to talk to. Happy now???

I think when you made your transfer the baht still was going up. So at the end you received more money than what you would become with wise. Exchange risk or luck.

My experience is, that with bigger amount sometimes a SWIFT transfer can be slightly better. But mostly I choose the WISE, because I know exactly what I will receive, with the SWIFT I could become more, about the same or less...

But if you want transfer more than 2 million Thai Baht, then you have to use swift anyway.

How do you know it designed as earthquake proof ?

So far I know, all building higher than 15 meters had to be build earthquake proof since 2007.
In 2021 it was increased to build more safe.

So a Building from 2022 (Which is taller than 15m) has to be earthquake proove. Or in that case should have.

My room has 2 cracks in the gypsum and unfortunatelly 1 50cm crack over a door frame at a inner wall. Else I can't find any cracks. But yes, there are other rooms which showed more cracks inside the rooms.

But to be honest as I never encountered anything similar to this event before it was really horrifying and I hope I never have to encounter something like that again. I also not knew before if the buildings were even likely build earthquake resistant or not!

You can top up TrueMoney with cash (Thai baht) at 7-11. There's no fee.

So I think it's superior to Tagthai (what this topic is about), because Tagthai forces you to exchange foreign currency at Kasikorn Bank to top it up. If you prefer to use an exchange like SuperRich or ATM withdrawals, there's no way (yet?) to top up Tagthai with Thai baht.

OK, if you can top it up at 7-11, then I also agree, that this would be easier... As you could use the much better Exchange rate to the Bank rates give by K-Bank.

I only use True Wallet with a credit card... I never used money in the wallet option 🙂

Thanks for clarification and sorry for my misinformation!

  8. What is important to fill in into the Residence field for people who really stay in Thailand all the time (except some holidays).

As most of them "only" have a NON-O (Non Immigrant) Visa/Extension. So I guess you are only excluded with a Thai Passport or Thai Residency Status!

But some people not have a residence other than Thailand.. and as some poster already replied Thailand is not in the list of residence country... it's intersting

You're wrong about TrueMoney, because the TrueMoney app cannot only be used for TrueMoney payments, but ALSO for PromptPay QR code payments.

I use it for both, and it works everywhere.

OK, I never tried to use true money for Promptpay (I have to try).

But even the TrueWallet App is not easy to use for tourists. Can you put a foreign credit card behind? Or how you recharge money without a Thai-Bank account or Thai credit card?

Even a thread about an earthquake felt in Lampang is not immune from Americans shouting about American politicians.

    1:20 in Lampang

    1:35 in Bangkok

An easy measurement of the speed of the earthquake.

why you think in Bangkok it was 1.35?

I felt it 1.22 in Bangkok. And I think the information the OP presented was interesting, Not only to hear about Bangkok.

To be honest I have read many other stories in this Forum which I found much less important than what this OP was writing. Especially as he mostly not knew at that time of writting what really happened!

  11. I'm not sure what is more safe. As higher buildings had more static engineering.. as lower rise buildings 3-4 floors I guess there is less static calculation made.

I think the bigger problem is, if they always built on standards or as a few years ago in Turkey they find out afterwards if everything was built correct not that much would happen.
So far I know at least till now only 1 building was really collapes (and this was under construction). But still very very sad for the workers which are still traped 😞.

Or I red wrong or misunderstood, but Wise debit cant be used in Thailand.

As before I went to Thailand was thinking about Wise debitcard and app.

    Correct me if im wrong.

You can't have a Wise card, if you live in Thailand, but I already used at least 1 time a Wise debit card in thailand to pay a bill.
And one of my friends uses his wise card all the time in Thailand, so I think it's working as normal as any other debit/credit card.

But I can tell you, that you are not allowed to order a card as long you have a thai address in wise!

  13. If this is really not expensive (conversion fees, ...) and you can pay easy PromptPay QR codes, then I think this could be helpfull for tourists.

Other option described above TrueMoney and other options often not work on small shops. but QR codes works with most sellers. I know a few better shops, where you only can pay with QR or credit card. At least, when the conversion rates are not too bad, you could choose a good day to transfer some money and then use it. Also you not have to carry that much money with you arround... and if you need cash, you can use the K-Bank ATM for withdrawal some money when needed.

I not see this for people who stay in Thailand, but for tourists I not see this as something bad.

Probably why Wise isnt doing debits/ e-wallet in Thailand because of plan Kasikorn.

I think this is not related, as this is aimed more for tourists, and they can have a Wise debit card already (if it's available in their homecountry).

Yes, I realise the 10GB is for 1 mobile. I can't use it anyway as I am on AIS Mobile.

That's a good idea with the SIM router, but how long are the packages valid? I have previously used DTAC and True on prepaid SIMS, but I have lost money every time as I hardly used them. In fact the numbers were closed down after a few months.

There are different ways to archive this.

I my self always buy a 1 year SIM from AIS, DTAC or True (DTAC, Ttrue are now merged, but still use a seperate net, this maybe changed in the future. Now, you also can add a DTAC number in the True Service app).

    - 1 Year Sim, afterwards, refill with enough money for another 1 year plan (min 12 refills) or buy another new 1 year SIM.
    - buy a plan only when needed, but then you have to take care, that you always have enough validity.

As you told your card run out fast, then I would say you should buy DTAC or True, as there you can extend your validity of the SIM for 30 days for 2 Baht. Normaly you refill for extending, but if you not use the card that much, then you will have after some time much to much money on it... so better then to pay for example 12 Baht for 6 month extension (*113*180*9# DTAC)

I use the 1 year plan, because I also use this router, when I go on short trips arround Thailand. Then I plug in my router and have my internet to use with tablets instead to use mobile sharing. Mostly the Router has a slightly better signal than the mobile.

This only works when the other person you want to reach also use teams!

The big advantage of Skype, which some of the users here missing afterwars:
    - a local number in a country

    - when this number is called forward to a specific mobile, landline number

    - easy call a number at home, and even show a local number, which this person could call back

Your option is same as using line, Whatsapp, ... (if both have same program, then it's easy to use it). But this is not what most of the users who still use skype need!

  16. One of the biggest problem I encounter with True is, that after a power failure, the service is gone for 4-12 hours.
Sometimes it's a planned power cut, or sometimes an animal or a car who run into a transformer. Anyway you can't use their Internet for hours.

About their 10GB code, it's only valid for 1 mobile. If there are 2 person or more, then you have to decide who use the code.

Yes, I'm also don't like that the service always down for that long after a power cut. But I don't know if with AIS it's that much better?
In my case my router swich automatic to my SIM Router, who takes over, in case of problems with True. And when True is back online, Main router switch back to the True Router.... thanks to failover....

  17. The KTB send out to all customers (or maybe all foreign customers) this message.
if nothing has changed since last time, then probably nothing to do.

it's like from time to time the bank is obligated to check if all information is still correct.
If you have the option of a KTB branch nearby, only go short and ask if they need something from you.

In my case, they already have a Thai TIN, and I'm not an US american (facta), so no more info they wanted from me.

KTB and was issued about five years ago.

It was because I had a lot of money in the bank, which I subsequently withdrew, and they never asked for the card back.

I hardly use it, but it has a 500,000 baht limit.

THE KTC card I use a lot, as at the moment this is the card, which can be used at many restaurants for discounts.

Or use points to redem discounts. Anyway my prefered credit card since about 2 years ago.

  19. I think some years ago it was easier as almost everything which has something to do with banking.

My first unsecured credit card in Thailand (without a work permit) I became in 2011.

Just a few month ago when I asked to open an additional account at K-Bank, they needed much more paperwork.

Especially the TIN (Tax Identifcation Number) seemed to be very new for opening a new account. I not sure if this is everywhere or only some branches. But it seems it become more and more complicated. 10 years ago or more, you could walk with a 30 day visa excempt stamp in the bank and could open an account at many different banks. Now I think this is almost impossible (there are maybe still a few branches which do this).

  20. As some already mentioned, if the installation is not done proberly, then it's not the problem of the Aircon Unit!

I have now Daikin since about 3 years, and I am more happy with them than with the panasonic before.
And yes, you should clean your aircon from time to time, then the dripping water should be much less a problem, especially when you use your aircon a lot. And I not talk about cleaning the filter. A Aircon cleaner cost about 300-500 per Unit and should be done about every 6 months (depending on the usage).
