    So what's the difference actually.

One has a book and one doesn't?

    That's it?

I mean all my regular Thai savings accounts across 3 different banks are basically fully digital and I can get by 100% with digital use only for most of the time. Online purchasing, scanning qr, cardless ATM etc.

It's the difference literally only the bank book?

    Oh sorry "book bank".

The difference is, that for initial opening you need to go to the bank for open a "book bank". Second is, that on an online account (without book bank) mostly you will have a little bit better interest rate as well.

And with an online account (without book bank) you can't go into the bank and withdrawal money from that account, you have to transfer this money first to an account with "book bank" and then you are able to withdrawal money!

So yes there is a small difference in this 2 kind. Even when most will feel almost nothing at all.

Well my K-Bank mobile phone app feels fully digital to me, and I keep my bank book locked away once a year for immigration purposes only.

But I guess all of your account still have a real bankbook behind. Meaning every account you see in your K-Bank app you also have a bank book with this account number at home (in your locked away area).

But when I try to click on the "Open e-Savings" button then soon it shows for Thais only (I guess you need this blue ID card to be able to do most of this).

Yes, as a foreigner I don't even get any interest on the balance of my KTB bank account.

You should check with your KTB Branch again. I have a KTB Bank account and a deposit account which give good interest. The deposit 2% and the saving account only a few baht, as I not have that much money in the saving account.

But with digital accounts mostly the problem is that we not have an offizial ID card with CHIP and laserID on the back.

Does that number include immigrant workers, Burmese etc?

Yes... and a fast majority is Burmese (at least if look at this year statistics.

This year the Russian are Number 1 non-Thai Neighbour country.

Huh?  Post from the UK to Thailand normally takes a few days at the most.  Sounds as though you're making excuses for not fitting the bank's UK-resident requirements!

Did you consider that claiming that Royal Mail post from UK to Thailand takes months is a bit ridiculous?   I regularly get items bought from UK sellers sent here and UK to Bangkok usually takes about five days.

I think it really depends where in Thailand you are. In Bangkok for example it's very convenient. But if you stay in the sticks... it could really take very long or never arrives. I hear from different people which do not live in a big city that they have problem with the mail... (also with mail from inside Thailand).

  6. I personally would cover the front of the washer, for a better look in the kitchen. But I guess with a standard kitchen like IKEA this will become difficult.
In my kitchen I have a bosh machine, and it's covered with a door with blacked glass. So, I still can see the display of the machine when it's running. But when it's off.. you almost can't see the machine.

Additional take care you also have the space on the top of the washer.

Show me where it asks for proof of retirement? Because I can show you where it asks for proof of being over 50

Just because the word retirement is bandied around, does not change the fact that that is NOT a requirement

But on the visa is written "no working". at the end it doesn't have any importance if you called it over 50 or retirement. The important part is the written part of "no working" in the Non O based on over 50.

The retirement which all refer means retirement usage for living in Thailand (no working). even you are working in your home country or any other country.

Hopefully the Mods will move your question to either

    https://aseannow.com/forum/121-insurance-in-thailand/

    Or

    https://aseannow.com/forum/23-health-and-medicine/

As you will likely get more answers but... Also you will find much info in those sub forum sections on insurance

This topic does come up often & the takeaway seems to be buy from International based not Thai based companies for a more stable price & coverage.

First given your age you may find it tough to find Thai based & if you do they will likely price you out of it in a couple years

I am your age & have recently been looking at Cigna Global

I have Cigna Global now for 5 years. And yes, they are not cheap, but I feel better with them than with a Thai Insurance, who can raise the premiums or kick you out after a big claim.

In my opinion Cigna or April (international, not the Thai based version) are the ones to look at, if you have the spare money to spend.

I'd be curious to know from some of the posters making recommendations above just what kind of "apartment" the OP is likelty to find at those prices?

An actual real apartment, or, a low-end Thai single room furnished with a bed and small dresser along with a small attached bathroom, and not much else?

The word real apartment always depends on the person who looks for.
Some people think a 100m2 apartment is a shoe box and there are people who think 30m2 apartment are already a perfect size.
Every person has different desire. They only use the room for sleeping or they also want life in it?

    True that.

One point may be that relatively few foreign resident learn to speak the local language.

At some points it can help, if you can speak Thai to become the reduced price. But also, many places they mostly look on your skin color or if you can show them a blue Thai ID card. So, Asians often can go for the Thai price.

Actually, I don't mind paying little bit more than Thais. on some parks I would not mind paying 80 baht instead of 40. But 10x or even more is not OK anymore. But as some posters already wrote, you can decide to not go.

Why retire at 50 or 55? Sitting on backside for 30 years.

Look it from the other side. Why working more, when you have enough money?
There are always people who think they need more and more money (strange, mostly the very rich).

I know of persons, who complain, how hard their life is, and how much they would love to enjoy life. Some of them would have more than enough money to stop work or at least work less. But many people can't. They don't know what to do with their time.
I many times hear from older person, when I am 65, then I will start enjoying life. But mostly (of course not always) people who never enjoyed life, can't start with 65 to change. Unfortunately, I know of 2 persons, who died shortly after retirement. As from my perspective it's much better to start enjoying life as early as possible (but of course not too early, so you have enough money to enjoy).
I read a few very interesting stories from people who retired early. And I think it's the best.

Of course, if you can retire with 45... then you have 20 extra enjoyable years till official retirement. This is something which nobody can take away anymore. Even when retire with 55... these extra years to enjoy I think is unpayable. But sadly, for this lifestyle you need saved money, which many do not have.

I am sure I am not the only one here who wants to know: Why did you do that?

Buying a condominium which you never saw in person sounds like a crazy idea to me.

I think he have seen the condo in April (as this was the time he was searching). But he had to go back while have to buy, pay and so on.

Thanks for the info. So what is the EXAT portal app that they said I had to download? Whats it for?

The EXAT app, is for checking your balance on EasyPass. You actually not need the app at all.
You need the EasyPass sender and you need the card with your number, to refill EasyPass. This can be done with almost every online banking system.

I only use the EXAT app, when I have to check if I still have enough money on EasyPass.

I don't understand why you hated that, apart from a 30min home visit, I know people worry it may not be granted, but in reality if they found nothing wrong on the day you applied then it will be granted IMO

It's about you have to go to Immigration 2 times instead of only 1 time. And you always have to bring your wife the first time as well. With retirement you only need 1 visit and wife not need to attend (except first time while changing).

Of course if your Immigration office is near your house, then it's not a big issue. But if you have a long way or as in Bangkok a lot of traffic, which can easily be 4-5 hours trip per visit, then it could be a pain for some people.
