  1. It will be interesting to see where this goes next week when APEC is over. Thailand will be free to be harder but Thaksin has left Cambodia and with APEC over maybe Hun Sen will stop cranking things up. The rally today will also possibly influence things although unless it is of a humongous size which I doubt probably not too much.

    Does anyone really care???

  2. We have to make difference between Thailand and Thailand under this gvt.

Thailand itself or with ASEAN may have an important role to play on the international scene.

Thailand under this gvt is back to the 20th century or even 19th century. Their only interest is to fight the influence of a fugitive and provoke neighbor countries. Such barbarian behaviors are crippling.

To have a role on the International scene, a country needs to be in peace and peaceful, well it's FAR the case in Thailand. And instead of solving the problems, they create and heighten them.

So, let's wait the next gvt to expect something good from Thailand.

    It will never happen.

The BOYS IN BKK love the STATUS QUO keep poor and uneducated.

  3. I believe the Thai justice system has chosen a very tough bone to chew on in this instance , Saxen , from what I have read about him , has far more actual intelligence than all who will appose him in this case , he is likely to make absolute dog meat of his opposition .

Really nothing new. Same oh Same oh. According to Bloomber LOS is the most corrupt in South East Asia

and has helds the #1 or #2 spot the last 10 years. Is really anyone surprized here?

I am not 1 bit just the way of life here

  5. Whoopdee doo. United Asean marching forward whilst the Brunei representative stays in Thaksin's house.

Hmmmm. The wolves might just be forming...........

Could you believe any developed country having to answer this accusation concerning the accommodation of a visiting delegate?

The Sultan wasn't the only ASEAN Leader absent from the opening ceremony. also missing Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Hun Sen.

this "little" detail didn't made into the forum news, it could disturb the dream, the delusion of the 'sucessful' Abhis

why all these leaders didn't show up? any guesswork, speculation, explanation why this happend by team: the usual suspects?

the first obscure commie conspiracy theory came up. that was awesame.

any other input or better ignore the reality and put the full energy in some cambodia or red shirt hate thread?

I guess THE BOYS IN BKK had a party by themselves DOES ANYONE REALLY CARE

  6. Gotta love Thailand. Tourists ripped off daily across the entire Kingdom and its business as usual, until it goes out on TV, then the Governor promises a big clean up. Sure... Yes, I prefer it here to Farangland, but the longer I am here, the more cynical I become.

I been here since 2003 every year worse, expect next year be like CARTOON NETWORK

  7. It suits Thaksin and Hun Sen to undermine the ASEAN conference as Abhisit is hosting it.

Since the embassy burning days Thaksin has clearly done some nice buisiness deals tro keep Hun Sen happy. Wonder what they are?

There are a lot of border disputes linked to resources and a compliant government or government who owed Hun Sen would suit Cambodia well. Of course Thai businessmen are also able to do deals in Cambodian territory and preferentially if things go right.

The elite of Cambodia and the out of favour Thai elite are obviously nicely allied over common interests right now. Thge side deals may become obvious in coming years but will never be totally provable as always

Who cares who shows up, does anyone really care, did they ever accomplish anything worth while, does the rest of the world care HE_LL NO

  8. People from Isaan are looked down upon from people that are not from Isaan. It's just the way it is.

GFL Yes I have come to see that, what u are saying. Dont know Y.

Yes refer to Forbes' comments. and to add to the mix the people from Isaan have a social group to look down upon - The Farang.

The Thai social system is more well structured more rigid system than any counterpart western social model. This is the reason Thais when they meet each other ask 'where you come from', what job do you do', etc. It is so they can place each other within the pyramid of social status. Although it is possible to buy credits from having money to raise themselves on the social ladder, to really gain height one must have a good family, good education, home, car, good job etc. A farang may never enter that pyramid.

Who in their right mind wants too. Good education from where? I have never ever heard of anyone from any country coming here for an good education. It does not exist.

See the so called universities every where, second class voctional schools yes at the best.

  9. Compare and contrast:

Thaksin: doing "call ins" from a "nearby" country, agitating revolutionaries, running from justice, scrambling for passports

Abhisit: Standing man to man with Barack Obama, the most popular world leader in decades

Yes, I would say Abhisit has helped his cause. Very much.

You have to be joking that <snip> does not even belong in the same building as Obama

  10. :) ...Smart conclusions...and so fast.

    LaoPo

I disagree, The worse shape the government is it the better chance that they wont screw around with more stimulus packages and BS. This political unrest has been priced in for years already.

I believe they already passed a graft stumulus package and the snouts are going wild finding a trough to suck on as it gets watered down through every set of hands it passes.

This country is already perilously close to being a failed state. Corruption is what will make it irreversible. Thailand is already on the slippery slope and heading towards the deep end of the shit pool.

It has been in it for years. What government? THE BOYS IN BKK are in it for me , myself and I. The call themselves a Democracy. It must have a different meaning in Thai then in English.

They do not have any idea how the average Thai lives and they could not care less.

  11. Ferd and JR - very very interesting posts. You have provided much food for thought should everything go south (politically, financially, or otherwise) here in the LOS. Thanks for the info.

Thank you both for your exellent post. I been here since 2003 have an excellent Thai wife, if not for her

I be any place else. Let face it Thai love Thai and we are walking ATM machines for THE BOYS IN BKK

  12. Hello, it is possible people that live in Bangkok are getting desensitized from all of the political violence in the last 37 months that they do not worry as much. We do not know to what extent the red shirts or the police are willing to go, and people in most other countries use their vote to change things in a government unless they have more guns and influence.

They tried the vote but every time when the Elite in BKK did not like it was null and void.

  13. Considering the article goes on to say 69.8 % backed the imposition of the act then there seem to be some very confused foreigners out there where the majority support/worry about/don't understand what is happenning.

I think is about time to pass a law that does not allow assemblies/protest bigger than 5000 people. This should solve the violence problem at the same time allow lawful protests

These people are not thinking about Thailand and thai people and clam down is necessary

Itsa democratic right to demonstrate, I have seen demonstrations of several hundred thousand of people without any riots or viollence, including an labour union demonstrations against my government.

But this is not a Democracy and never was.

  14. One of my wife's staff has a husband who's a sergeant in the Khon Kaen police and she told (with a "what can you do?" look on her face) about how he got plastered at home, had an argument with her and decided to go into the street and unload a full clip into the night sky.

He sounds a well balanced sort of a fellow. :)

He came to my wedding party and spent the entire evening getting wasted and informing the rest of the guests on his table that he "Didn't like westerners."

Liked us enough to drink my whiskey though. :D

Chronic gambler, hardcore drinker, riding his motorcycle without helmet pissed as a newt, teen mia noi on the side.

I think he passed the police selection board with flying colours.

"Keep an eye on young Kwanchai. That lad shows a lot of potential."

He is a perfect fit for Chief of Police. Maybe they can put him in charge at DUTY FREE

  15. I think we are definitely in need of a major clampdown on clampdowns from the ministry of clampdowns. :)

They must employ 15,000 public employees

( yellow shirt from the airport demonstration they all must have ended up with a cushy job) and have them staring at the ceiling all day

to dream up the next ridiculous thing. How about something constructive, paying the teacher

a decent wage, reducing class sizes. Oh , no that be to practical and to easy.
