I am in Chiang Mai and have used the income method for over a decade now. While I receive $1320.00 from SS (retired Professor), I draw on my Required Minimum Distribution from my retirement funds to transfer about $2200.00 a month. You will need to pay attention to your timing of application for Extension of Stay. They will want to see how many months you have been transferring in that amount. Oh, and make sure it comes into your bank as a foreign funds transfer coming into Thailand. I use Wise (they ask for the reason for the transfer, Check the box referring to, “for long term living expenses in Thailand”) for the transfer into my Bangkok Bank Account.

Disagree. It could order all Thai gateways (which by law should all be at CAT or whatever TOT+CAT is called now) block IP ranges or domains (which it is already doing for many domains) and make use of VPNs a criminal offense like China. It is not hard to detect VPN tunnels going through your gateways. Those also collect logs which can be analysed by automatic scripts. So if they wanted, all it would take is some investment and training, and they can take full control of your internet connection.
NSA background … asking for a friend. (No, I am not serious just joking). I do fear I see far too many traits following the China social control thinking but I see this in the US, England, etc. in the name of security, of course.

This is depending on the situation. However, in case both of you have no pre-nuptial agreement, the money in general can be a conjugal property subject for assessment.
Before our recent marriage, I had a new Will drawn up naming wife as sole beneficiary for what I hold in Thailand (I have a separate US Will). I also had a Prenup drawn up. When registering the Marrage Certificate the office registering the marriage said no to the Prenup as it was in conflict with Thai marriage law … so much for planning. My understanding was that a Penup needs to be recorded at the same time as the Marriage Certificate. TIT

I live in Thailand.
The 4 questions many expats seem hesitant to answer:
What is your name?
Where are you from?
How old are you?
Where do you live?
And yet, if you are in The Kingdom of Thailand you should recognize that asking were you are from (country of origin), what you did for a living, how old are you, where you live, perhaps even how much you earn is all part and parcel of placing you approximately on the social scale. TIT and this is part of the culture ... jai, yen, yen.

So, to the post. As a Yank, I am doing fine on my 65,000 baht a month (OK, some extra drawn for vacations in Samui). This can be maintained with no end based on my $1320.00 monthly Social security and retirement funds to match that amount for the monthly transfers. But I am in Chiang Mai.

When the 7-11 stores at PTT stations start closing, then is the time to pay close attention …

Hmm, what is said, “closed because of Covid”? True. Ah, but what is required here is “critical thinking”. Covid did, in fact, cause the closure due to its effect on the economy …

Oh that's nice. How about taking care of it's own citizens first!
We had to fly to the states for a very, very expensive trip and are still in f'king quarantine as we speak, just to get vaccinated.
it shouldn't be that way.
Screw the US government. They just don't care about us.
I hope you will join me in lobbying for both a US national healthcare program like all other western democracies provide for their citizens and for equality medical coverage of earned Medicare with those who have earned military retirement global medical coverage (looking for equal treatment).

Embassies are not in foreign countries for the sole benefit of their citizens. They may provide some services however they are not there for just you.
Embassies are in foreign countries to act as liaison between the host country and the government of country of the embassy.
Winge all you like but that is the truth.
Agreed, not JUST to serve the American citizens resident in a foreign country but ... it is part of the expectation that the American citizens would be attended to as much as what would be expected if lives were being threatened by other means, as they are in this case. As an American citizen, full-time resident in Thailand, I will continue to lobby for some healthcare attention to the current threat ... I do not consider this "whining".

I abstained from alcohol for a couple of days before and after my AZ vaccine.
The beneficial effect of dealing with the beautiful Thai nurses during the process was far greater than the effect of any alcohol.
Ha! Yes, the Thai nurses. I go for my checkups and the first thing they do is check blood pressure. I have teased with the Thai nurses that it was not fair ... put me with a cute Thai nurse and it raises my blood pressure!

When my Father died, he left all of James A. Michener's books, which I read through and found interesting as a student of history. He was known for doing his background history research.

I cannot identify. I retired to Thailand due to not being able to afford retirement in my own country(USA). I can sustain the 65,000 baht per month without end but … Well,, if I had many more than one million, maybe one of my homes would be in Thailand, but I doubt it. With that kind of money, I could come and go as I wish to many countries. Why tie up money in Thailand?

I know it’s now Lotus’s but to people like me who’ve been here many years it will always be Tesco and if it had become a Big C we would still refer to it as the old Tesco.
Don't hear "Carrafour" much concerning Big C Extra here in Chiang Mai.

Awaiting my regularly scheduled check-up with my Cardiologist soon. Anticipating taking Moderna/Pfizer when they become available to me. In the meantime ... we are living the Covid Dream ... mostly staying close to home.

As has been observed individual palates/tastes' differ. while I have enjoyed very nice red wines in my travels, I have been reduced to the Aussie Mont Clare box wine for the "house" wine. That said, I have a few bottles of Eagle Creek Merlot and Shiraz which I find affordable and good for my taste. I left two bottles of Margaux wines with my Sons in the US to drink upon learning of my demise ... those bottles are now priced in the hundreds (USD).

IMO opinion you, and others in this category, along with Veterans, should be first in line for 2 doses of the 150,000 Pfizer donated vaccines.
Also, IMO, the Embassy should be working directly with you, and this target group (70+, medical issues) to coordinate the vaccination.
Full disclosure: I am not in that group.
Instead, I fear, you'll have to run the gauntlet of registrations, applications, appointments.
And this ignores the geographic and logistics of intra-Thailand travel now.
Register in STEP, if you haven't already.
Watch the Embassy's Twitter feed and FB. I've set up a fair number of alerts on this one.
Thanks. Yes I am registered at the Embassy (Consulate in Chiang Mai). Regular checkup with my RAM Cardiologist soon so I am hopeful of recommendation and her getting me registered for Pfizer/Moderna ASAP. October? After the New Year? Who knows …

I am sitting in my condo drinking coffee as many of them are in the high risk danger zone helping sick people.
As an American resident Expat retired in Thailand, I agree. At 74 with history of heart condition, I would appreciate some consideration for Pfizer or Moderna vaccine ASAP.

At home, I had visions of a rusting trailer in Florida or Arizona on my $2400.00 retirement budget ($1320.00 of that from SS). Quite comfortable here on my 65,000 baht a month.

Looking at the way things are going in North America and Canada in particular I do not think I would be any better off than I am here either health wise or financially.
My only benefit would be getting the Moderna/Pfizer shot quickly in the USA. But currently too expensive, along with the hassle of travel and return here to the family.
