142 non Thai nationals over 80 were vaccinated yesterday at McCormick Hospital, Chiang Mai.
Today over 75's starting with the most senior should now have received email or SMS messages with their appointment times. Only those with appointments should go for vaccination.
For the record I am 75 and registered via Expatvac and have not received SMS,
email or phone call.
I too await, age 74, successfully registered, heart issues. Hope for all of us ...

You will forgive my getting a bit nervous at age 74 with having heart issues. Watching many of my childhood film actors,/actress passing and having already passed the age of demise of many of my male relatives. No worries ... just not in a rush as I am enjoying my retirement in Thailand!!! Now, if I might have access to the Pfizer vaccine here in Chiang Mai ...

"Died of" vs "died with" ...
I know one guy who died last month and was treated as dying of Covid (cremation ASAP with only immediate family allowed to attend at temple) - but he was in his 60s and had serious underlying health issues as well so who knows if he really died "of" Covid.
Who knows? Indeed. I lean toward if there is a medical finding by those educated in the medical field.

I was planning to retire in 2011, so I made two monthlong visits to Thailand both in 2009 and 2010. I traveled around the country looking for where to settle. I am inclined toward the mountains more than the beach. I had contemplated continuing to teach a bit also after 41 years as an educator. After touring around, Chiang Mai just felt that it fit my desires. I could find anything I wanted in the way of food, supplies, etc. but not the metropolitan Bangkok. Then, there were five universities where I might continue working with students. After a decade, I am still well pleased to be here with the noted exception of the annual health threatening air pollution. Easy enough to get around the city and have access to trips in N. Thai mountains, or to Laos. Having the airport connections also should be considered. Oh, and pre-Covid an active Chiang Mai Expat community.

What is the mission of the US Embassy?

The mission of the United States Embassy is to advance the interests of the United States, and to serve and protect U.S. citizens.
By refusing to help administer vaccines to their citizens, I sure don't see a lot of 'protecting' going on.Sure, we could all jump on a flight back to the U.S. (approx $1500 USD round trip), self quarantine for 7-10 days after negative test (that will run approx $500 USD), get 2 jabs of Pfizer/Moderna approx one month apart (that additional stay is going to cost, say $1500 USD), fly back into Thailand and be forced to quarantine in State approved ASQ facilities in deep red zones ($1000-2000 USD depending on your choice of luxury). We're talking a minimum of $4500 USD. There's roughly 40,000 US expats here in Thailand. Conservatively speaking, that comes out to $180,000,000 USD. Am I missing something here? Come on U.S. State Department. We're tax paying American citizens. Step up to the plate and do your job. Protect your citizens!I await a Pfizer appointment in Chiang Mai as an American aged 74 with heart issues but … I could only imagine the reaction of the minority party in Congress at the State Department setting a precedent of providing “Medicare for All” overseas Americans. I will continue to lobby for Medicare global coverage on the same basis as fully retired military is given.

Be careful what you set it in motion.
The distribution to other nations by the Biden administration of vaccines has been a clear foreign policy win, that alone will earn the distribution enemies on one side of the house.
In addition to which isolationists on that same side of the house are always looking for reasons to cut foreign aid.
The US has, as stated, has not tied strings to this donation but also as stated the RTG has made commitments to provide vaccines to all residents of Thailand, this agreement was clearly in place at the time of the arrival of the vaccine at Suvarnabhumi (refer text of ACS statement).
The absence of overt ‘strings’ does not mean agreements were not made prior to the delivery.
Omitting overt ‘strings’ recognizes Thailand’s sovereignty and the sovereignty of the RTG, something we all know to be a matter of hyper sensitivity amongst our hosts.
The ACS advice is good, keep applying, you won’t get a Pfizer vaccine with your name on it by any other means.
Agreed. I am still awaiting an appointment for the Pfizer vaccine in Chiang Mai but have not given up hope that I will be contacted this week

Thanks for sharing. Gives me hope sitting here, American aged 74 with heart issues. So far … crickets. Although the US Consulate also released a positive statement today.

totally agree ..... as an American you should have been one of the 1st to receive the Pfizer donated vaccine, the US in charge should have made that a pre-condition. imo
I have no problem with frontline medical personnel getting their shots but … I will report any progress this week or lack thereof … Today some in Chiang Mai, having been told previously that they were successfully registered, are being told that their registration is faulty. Whether an individual or a website mass mailing issue, .I do not know.

I have a growing objection as a retired American full-time resident, at age 74 with heart issues at not having access to get vaccinated as part of the US Pfizer donation.

Supply and demand? I await getting past Covid and the return of Thai tourism before getting enough indication as to the direction. I had my time there and am happily settled so it will mean nothing to me … except very fond memories!

Hello all, and thank you for the feedback.
To summarize a bit of the input so far:
1) No, it's not rice land. It may have been used for normal 'farming' at some point. I suppose that means it's perfectly fine to build a house on?
2) There are no neighbours that one can see. Maybe a good 5+ minute drive to the nearest. So not sure asking them would be meaningful, as the terrain will be different.
3) Sounds like electricity could be an issue. How can I tell what kind of electricity I have nearby and if I need to upgrade it? (Is there something written on the pole?)
4) I'm planning to get a lawyer to handle the usufruct & lease, should not have an issues.
Might suggest that you have a clear access to the nearest public roadway (no need to cross someone else's property)?

We are starting the 3rd year of our 3 year rental lease. Upon tell the owner that it was our hope to extend for another 3 years, he said that while the house is on th3 market, he doubts if there will be any buyers in today’s market and that if there is a buyer it will be made clear that we will have the lease, at the agreed monthly rent, for another three years.

Have any of you who received an approved notice via e-mail received further instructions? I've been watching my e-mail and SMS like a hawk but no joy.
Chiang Mai, successfully registered, high risk … crickets.

https://www.bangkokhospital-chiangmai.com/en/news-activities/booking-of-alternative-vaccine/Your statement can apply to all of Thailand as Sinovac was the planned vaccine by the government. While the paid Moderna (referring to the announcement of Bangkok Hospital) would also meet with my Cardiologist's approval, the first choice is Pfizer for both medical and economic reasons. I await contact concerning my successful registration for American donated Pfizer.

I am in Chiang Mai and have used the income method for over a decade now. While I receive $1320.00 from SS (retired Professor), I draw on my Required Minimum Distribution from my retirement funds to transfer about $2200.00 a month. You will need to pay attention to your timing of application for Extension of Stay. They will want to see how many months you have been transferring in that amount. Oh, and make sure it comes into your bank as a foreign funds transfer coming into Thailand. I use Wise (they ask for the reason for the transfer, Check the box referring to, “for long term living expenses in Thailand”) for the transfer into my Bangkok Bank Account.

Disagree. It could order all Thai gateways (which by law should all be at CAT or whatever TOT+CAT is called now) block IP ranges or domains (which it is already doing for many domains) and make use of VPNs a criminal offense like China. It is not hard to detect VPN tunnels going through your gateways. Those also collect logs which can be analysed by automatic scripts. So if they wanted, all it would take is some investment and training, and they can take full control of your internet connection.
NSA background … asking for a friend. (No, I am not serious just joking). I do fear I see far too many traits following the China social control thinking but I see this in the US, England, etc. in the name of security, of course.
