  1. Great suggestion , to remoive those African dealers that hang around Soi 3 and the area between Soi 11 and Soi 13 on Sukhumvit - those guys are annoying punks

I live near there. While I don't particuarly like all of them down there every night, they are not annoying punks. I walk by them every day and none of them has ever offered to sell me anything and the only thing any of them has ever said to me was hello. They did have a big brawl one night but I walked right through the middle of it to get home and they didn't touch or say anything to me.

I don't know if this is their nature or an unspoken agreement they have with police (not to start shit with random people), though such a gathering of drug dealing black guys in basically any western city would not be nearly as safe to be around.

  2. I read the OP's question carefully and felt it's quite loaded;

what do you think are the best and worst value for your money products or services in Thailand?

I reckon products are worst value and services offer better value in Thailand. I've lived in Bangkok for four years and I've never seen any product for sale which I couldn't have bought for less back home. Services are often higher quality for less.

I did not intend to word it as a loaded question - there are plenty of products that are cheap in Thailand. Just go to Tesco and compare prices for basically anything. Clothing is also quite cheap in Thailand.

  3. Thailand is always said to be a very cheap place to live or travel - in many cases that is true, but for some things it can actually be much more expensive than in the "West". So what do you think are the best and worst value for your money products or services in Thailand?

    imo:

*Best value: Red Bull, 10 Baht (80-90% discount).

*Worst value: New Mercedes C Class, 3 Million Baht+ (200-300% more expensive).

  4. Depends if freehold or leasehold. If free, then yes all owners would have to be bought out or share in sale proceeds. If lease, after 30 years (generally) the gigs up.

Leasehold projects will not be called condos nor title deeds issued during transfer of ownership.

Is a title deed the lite brown/peach colored over sized document with the red bird at the top center? If I have one of those it means I have a freehold condo and own it forever?

  5. Americans working abroad, must be abroad 18 months or more to avoid paying US income tax. As a US citizen, if I were to work for money, both the US and Thailand might expect me to pay taxes.

you better check again, 18 month or even 10 years you still have to pay good old uncle sam if you are a US citizen, Only break you get is the first 83,500 USD that you make you dont have to pay on.

This is correct, although I think the exemption is $90k. For this you must spend 330 days per year outside of the US. And it does not exempt you from all taxes - you still owe social security and other such taxes - you just avoid the federal income tax.

As with all matters tax related, consult a professional before believing what some strangers say on the interent.

  6. or to live, work or even enter a building where the welders were being paid minimum wage

    what a country...

So you don't live here then, or if you do you live in a field ? ermm.gif

After finding out this information I have decided to sell my Bangkok condo and live in an igloo on Koh Chang. I will build the igloo myself as I am a certified igloo builder in the states.
