A little question to people who well followed what happened in the case.
Was Hannah raped then killed, or killed then raped ?
I looked the crime scene pictures (on BestGore), and she lies on the beach with her legs open.
I don't see having open legs as a last defensive stance right before a hoe is supposed to crush her skull in.
So assuming the body hasn't been moved, it means they killed her & then raped her. Thus they raped a dead girl that had half of her skull caved in. It takes some pretty wicked psycho to do that, not your average drunkard on the beach, no ?

Amazing mindset. In a company vehicle, well marked, passengers in the rear. Did he suddenly think he had become invisible?
[/quot
I still don't understand why it is common practice here to "flee the scene" when you can be easily traced either through your job (if on duty at the time) or car registration or whatever. I had always assumed that it must be because they had alcohol taken...but even that doesn't seem to wash as so very few breathalyzer tests seem to be done at the scene of an accident.
RIP to the deceased man.
It's to avoid being lynched by an angry mob...
They usually give themselves up in the following hours or days.

My card's ATM daily is 20.000bht.
I guess most Thais take about a couple of thousand bahts when going to ATM (my wife can go to ATM for only 300b!).
This guy was getting 50.000bht.
Conclusion: the thief probably knew his target.

Thanks for all the answers ! Now, I just have to find a way to get 2 homes without going bankrupt !
@KhunBENQ,
I'd rather avoid to do border runs ; I have tiring memories from them, and although I'm not a big fan of going to the immigration, it's way less painful...
@OJAS,
currently, my extension is due to end of October, which is perfect as weather in France gets too fresh around mid-October, so we'd just come back to Thailand at beginning of October.
@Langsuan Man,
that's a nice way to do it ! Unfortunately, I'm still not old enough to do it...

Hello,
I'm French, I got several marriage based visa extensions for the past few years living in Thailand, but now I'm thinking about spending 6 months in Thailand & 6 months in my home country every year (on one hand, I begin to miss my country & my family too much, one another one I'd rather not live another winter in France ) .
When asking to do the yearly extension at immigration after being 6 months away from Thailand, would I get any problem ?
Note: I found a recent topic with a similar issue, but it focused on money issue, rather than the yearly schedule ( here => http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/789042-o-a-extension-with-a-6-month-absence/ )
Thanks in advance for any answer !

Scotland Yard spent only two hours on Koh Tao and did not meet with either the accused or their legal team.....Wow!! Great job Sherlock, then again what else could you have done? You were only there to observe the powerful and convincing evidence of the RTP. No wonder the family statement says the evidence APPEARS to be powerful and convincing.
I say it one more time, I will never believe in a million years the B2 are guilty unless I have seen independently (non-thai) verified DNA (if that is/was still possible). Nothing can change my mind, and definitively not a million posts from JD praising the RTP.
This case stinks too high heaven! So Sherlock, to end all this show the world your DNA findings! Just say you did independently verify the DNA from the repatriated bodies against fresh B2 samples and you will publish the result in due time. The fact that you didn't even meet them says it all.........you did not check the DNA, you accepted the RTP results. The B2 deserve better and so do their families!
.
Thanks to have posted this link.
This answered a question I had in the past days :
Under Thai law, the 900-page police report, upon which the prosecutors will base their case, will not be disclosed to the defense team until the trial commencesThis means they had to plead guilty or not guilty, and thus take the risk of the death penalty, without knowing what the prosecutors really have against them. When we recall the several claims we read in the past days of the "solid evidences" in the case, without forgetting the timely UK family statements, all of this feels a lot more like a poker game than Justice...
Can't believe we have in these forums a few RTP fanboys supporting at length all this sore excuse for Justice.

According to our findings, out of the 5,000 migrant workers on Koh Tao, about 2,000 work illegally without proper permits. To get around that each 'illegal' has to pay police Bt500 a month. And if they want to use a motorcycle, that's another Bt500 a month to get around the driver's licence issue.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ko_Tao
Area• Total
21 km2 (8 sq mi)Population
• Total 1,382Are there several Koh Tao in Thailand ?
Or are these figures all correct ? Migrant workers are not counted in the local population ?
I'd have thought that 500 migrant workers would be already a lot for such a small island... (or there are no Thais working there?)

Langsuan Man,
ok, got it, thanks again !
About Paypal, I have been checked several times already and it went smoothly (but it's always a bit stressful ), hopefully, it'll stay like this..!
Griffo63,
I have some US$ income, so for me, it costs about same to convert them to EUR or to THB. But it's true that for a normal wire transfer, I'd be better using my bank, not Paypal.
-
Langsuan Man,
thanks for these clarifications !
For the house option, if I got this right, I'll have to give the money to my wife, we'll be able to buy a house, but it'll likely not be possible to send back the money to my country in case of problem, right ?
-
Hello,
I've been in Thailand for a while on Non-O and mostly sent money by Paypal every few months to live and save a bit.
Over the time, I accumulated the savings and I might want to use them to buy a house or a condo here (maybe next year, I'm not in an hurry ).
But I just read I'd need a "Foreign Exchange Transaction" form to buy a property to prove the funds came from oversea.
I'll also wire a complementary amount from my country, France, for which I'll have to fill the form anyway.
Does someone know if it's possible to get a form for each of the small Paypal transfer I did in the past years, and if they'll actually be required ?
I guess the best would be to head to my bank (Kasikorn), but I'd not mind to get some head-ups, as my bank agent may or may not be aware of this kind of situation.
Thanks in advance for any info !

Mr Radoun allegedly offered the Patong Police officers 5,500 Euro (about 245,000 baht) and a regular monthly pay-off of 150,000 baht.
What ?!?
What happened to be 500b bribe and we're all good ?
That's a hell of bribe..! Is that the current rate of the market ?

Gee, how do they know the Arctic sea extent from that many years back? Let's see what the Guardian says:
For example, Drs. Walsh & Chapman from the University of Illinois have estimated sea ice extent as far back as the year 1870 using a vast array of data (for example, records kept by the Danish Meteorological Institute and Norwegian Polar Institute, and reports made from ocean vessels)Wow, that sounds really reliable. That graph must be very accurate. Just as accurate as Mannings famous hockey stick. Especially since the data they base that graph on dates back from 1870, when the data in the graph starts at the year 600. You people believe in anything they spoon feed you with.
Partially readings & extracting only a part of a quote to make false assumption. And I guess you're not in denial, right ?
Personally, I only look what scientists have to say, and what skeptics have to say ; and the former group is logical, while the later one only says stupid things that anyone with a solid highschool mathematical, statistics & physics level can disguard in a couple of minutes...
Maybe science & new facts & data will bring change to our understanding of the phenomenons in progress, but it's surely not "skeptics" that will bring any truth in all this.

You want some powerful lobbies ? Look in that direction, you'll find some good ones
And what exactly has that got to do with anything? It doesn't change the fact that there is a lot of money in the Global Warming industry. And almost exclusively all the only funding into climate comes from there.
Take that "lot of money", multiply it by 100 . How much does it make ? And this 100 times more money is eager to hire "scientists" to spread "scientific doubts" in minds that can't add 2 and 2... And you're there blabbing about the "lot of money in the Global Warming industry". Do you actually believe what you write ?
oh god... you cant mention the weather these days without the climate alarmist hippies coming out of the woodwork and preaching their doomsday message. Yes we get it. Your "models" predict that "if" your parameters are correct the earth "might" warm by 1 or 2 degrees over the next hundred years. Yep, we got it. Now take your underpants off your head, slip on a tinfoil hat, and go and dig a doomsday bunker. NEXT.
The fact is that 2 first posts about "Global warming" of this topic have been made by warming skeptics ; but hey, if we were just standing by the facts, where would be the fun, huh?!

The planet Venus is an extreme example of the greenhouse effect. The wind speeds there are 300-400 km/h. We are going to get more extreme winds because the warming widens the differences in air pressure areas.
The climate difference between Venus and Earth might have something to do with the distance from the Sun. Venus is about 0.7 AU from the Sun, while Earth is 1.
The total solar radiation on Venus is 2643W/m2, while in Earth the TSI is 1370W/m2.
During the little ice age, it's estimated that the total solar radiation to the Earth dropped less than 1W/m2.
If the TSI to Earth would increase 1200W/m2, we would surely have quite different climate. To use Venus as an example of greenhouse effect, while talking about climate politics, is simply wrong and misleading.
http://www.atmos.washington.edu/2002Q4/211/notes_greenhouse.html
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2011GL048529/abstract
Mercure's distance from the sun = 0.4 AU
Mercure's solar radiation = 9 126,6 W/m² ( ~= 4 times Venus')
Mercure's mean surface temperature = 169°c ; Venus' = 462°c
So if Venus' greenhouse effect is irrelevant, how comes its average temperature is so much higher than Mercure's one, while having 4 times less of solar radiation..?
That most scientific papers support the Global Warming theory is not strange. Since those studies are funded by the Global Warming industry, or governments who have an agenda to further this lie.
How much billion US$ turnover the Global Warning industry has ? What are the big companies composing it ?
The oil & gas profit, it's $1 trillion profit over the past 10 years, and that only for the 5 first companies ; profit, not turnover => http://www.taxpayer.net/library/article/big-oil-big-profits-industry-tops-120-billion-in-2012
That doesn't include coal (2nd world wide energy source & 1st CO² emitter). You want some powerful lobbies ? Look in that direction, you'll find some good ones... It's something else than a ghostly "Global Warming industry" (annual turnover 2.6 Billion € for the whole solar industry in EU => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_energy_in_the_European_Union , which is peanut compared to our champions above)...
That's because their predictions were wrong. It did not get warmer. So they changed their theory to Climate Change instead. Now the prediction is if it gets warmer or colder, it's Climate Change. Gotta love that "science". Hard to prove such a theory wrong.
The cooler 2010-2020 decade has been predicted in mid-2000 (or maybe earlier, but it was the 1st time I heard about it).
Here an article from 2004 describing what could happen in 2010-2020 : http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0224-01.htm :
"In a climate scenario that Schwartz and fellow futurist Doug Randall call "The Weather Report: 2010-2020," average annual temperatures drop by 5 degrees Fahrenheit in North America and Asia and by 6 degrees in Europe, while temperatures rise by 4 degrees in the southern hemisphere."
So I'd really love to join the sceptic crowd, as they seem to know better than all about everything & anything, but if you could give some arguments that stands longer than a 30-second search on Google, that'd be great... Else I guess I'll have to wait 2025 to see how goes the global long term trend of temperatures...

Ok, so this is a survey, not crime nor accident statistics, so the "safety" measurement doesn't mean much.

Suradit69,
oh ok, my wrong, I didn't get you were talking about this... So I just rechecked and my extension of stay is still written up to Oct 26th, but under there's a little block written in Thai followed by "18 OCT 2013" ; anyway, now I'm in the case "waiting for extension of stay consideration" till Nov 15th, so I can't tell you what will happen in your case if you don't apply for your next extension at same time.
-
Suradit69,
the next extension starts from when the previous one ends (it was like that for last one), so you're free to go whenever you can during the 30 days before your yearly extension ends (or even before if you have a long trip planned, according to what I read on these forums, but never experienced myself).

Hello,
here a little report of what I did after I got my new passport from my embassy just before to do my yearly extension of stay for Thai spouse support at Bangkok.
So with the passport I got a letter from my embassy certifying they issued it and took a copy of it with me to the immigration office (the bill as well, but it was not necessary).
At the front desk, I asked one form for the extension and one form for the visa transfer from old passport to new one.
I filled both and got queued for L zone with 1 ticket for both procedures.
The lady officer took care of everything at same time ; once she was done, she asked me to copy the 2 new pages with all the transferred stamps and bring it to her (for the extension file), and that was done.
Simple enough, isn't it ?
-
I'd put it down to IO interpretation. Not a huge deal.
In our case, the lady officer who took care of our file said we were missing these pictures, and that was up to her superior to decide if it was ok or not. Her superior checked our file after it was all done, and said we had to do such pictures. (I forgot, but I think the previous years the checking done by the superior was pretty fast, and this time she went over our file 3 or 4 times).
-
lopburi3, you're right !
My wife is still registered in her parents' house ; although it was also the case in the previous years and we were not asked such photos.
-
Hello,
I just did my yearly extension of stay for Thai spouse support at Chang Wattana office in Bangkok yesterday, and this year, we got these new requirements, in addition of the inside of home photos :
- a photo showing us in front of our apartment building with the street number
- a photo showing us in front of our apartment room with the room number
This is not listed here : http://www.thaivisa.com/non-imm-o-marriage.html ; not there : http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=service (both even don't list the requirements for home pictures).
Note : I already read that other offices (ie: in Jomtiem) were asking such kind of photos, but I didn't see any post for BKK ; if I missed them, then sorry and anyway it's better to be warned twice than not at all !
Note bis : unlike in these other reports, we were not asked the registration of familial status (Form KhorRor.22)

In doing so, both resolved to implement a temporary suspension of escalator services at all underground train stations from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm during April 1 and June 30.Ms. Rachanee stated that 70-80 of existing 200 escalators will be chosen for the temporary suspension.
1 million bath per day / 80 escalators / 7 hours = 1'785b saved per escalator per hour
at 5b for 1kWh, that's 357kWh saved per hour.
Now, according to this article http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/the_green_lantern/2010/08/escalators_vs_elevators.html :
A continuously running escalator of the kind you'd find in airports or subway stations—35 feet high with a 40 horsepower motor—would use around 60,000 kWh annually
60'000kWh / 365 days per year / 24 hours per day = 6.8 kWh per hour
So MRT escalators use 357 / 6.8 = 52.5 times more energy than a regular escalator...
In other words, they will unlikely save 1 million bath per day, but it'll be more close of 20'000b per day...

I also stopped to receive the newsletter since a couple of weeks (it's even not in my Spam folder).
There are things that Thaivisa can do (if they didn't already do it) to prevent this kind of situation :
