  1. I parked opposite a bar I use in Khao Talo and the shop owner came out, mad as hell, telling me I cannot park there as people driving past cannot see his shop. It was one of these shops that sells plastic buckets, bowls, rat traps etc. What was he expecting, passing trade from Bangkok?

Anyway, they knocked his shop down two weeks later biggrin.png

  2. Go to cook shop next to Foodland or in 2nd Rd. Get a silicone carbide sharpening stone. Will last a lifetime for about Baht 200.

You will need to put a little oil on it to hone the knifes properly and get a cut throat type edge.

  3. We installed a whole house filtration system so you can drink from any of the taps. Basically there is a particulate pre-filter which filters down to 1 micron (1/25,000 inch) and two High Efficiency Filters (to give the flow rate) which filters down to 0.25 microns which is smaller than bacteria, lead, pesticides and any other crap other than water molecules, and the flow rate is high enough to have rain showers running simultaneously in each of the four bedrooms without a drop in pressure.

  4. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I am just surprised that it took so long for someone to jump on that one. Good Pic. clap2.gif

I got Indasia Nitrite Brine Salt 0.8%/0.9% from Royal Exquisite Food Ltd. in Kao Noi 1kg/101 Baht. You get a product specification sheet with it, but no instructions. Not exactly sure what to do with it. The woman in the shop said "use little bit" Do you just cover the meat with it, and repeat daily?

As it is only 0.8% I guess you use it straight from the pack without diluting with additional salt?

Does anyone have experience of this stuff?

    Thanks

  5. I fancy a go at making my own ham/bacon for Christmas. Only ingredient I have not been able to locate is Sodium Nitrite to cure the meat.

(Not to be confused with Sodium Nitrate, I want to cure it not blow it up).

Does anyone know who stocks it in Pattaya.

  6. My washing machine is fixed. And here is the whole story:

Numchai said they would come at 1pm... and they arrived at 3:30pm, 3 young boys. After doing several operations on machine (meanwhile playing with the baby ), the leading guy told me the machine has no problem. I did not believe him. And told him to reduce the spinning speed. He said: can not. the speed is auto set by machine!!! So I realised he had no clue at all.

And after they left, I used the machine and it was as loud as before !!!

During the same visit, I let the guy check my Electrolux vacuum cleaner. He could not fix it and took it back to shop to check. Afterwards I waited for 2 weeks and still got no feedback. So I told them to keep it and we will buy a new one. Numchai charged 400 baht for their last visit and if they return the vacuum cleaner, they will charge another 100 baht.

Later, we contacted that 24 hours Siemens hot line. The engineer came from BKK, checked the machine carefully and found out the problem: shock absorber and carbon brush were damaged. We waited 2 weeks for the parts and he came again for replacing. Total cost 2340 baht for parts. No service charge.

I guess maybe Numchai is good for fixing simple problems. For complicated ones, better call the product's service centre.

We had a problem with our Siemens dish washer and the jokers from Numchai turned up. Had no idea what they were looking at. Said we needed a new pump 5,000 Baht.

Phoned Siemens in BKK and told them that Numchai are idiots and they should train them Siemens Engineer from Bkk turned up, 5 mins fixed. cocktail stick in the pump.

  7. Do what I did four years ago. Disconnect them, and torrent download all your media from movies.

Most sports are available directly off the internet as well. Cut the cable !!!

The beautiful part is there are no commercials. I won't open the whole can of worms, but why do we have to pay for cable, AND watch commercials anyway? People don't even ask themselves that, which is weird I think. And why in the hell do we have to watch them when we pay to go to a movie, that one is really strange. I think the entire torrenting community is jamming the proverbial stick right up the ass of these people who have taken advantage of us for far too long. Then there is the "but where is the money for these shows/movies going to come from if everyone downloads them" argument. I think advertisements in the future will be linked to free downloads of media directly from the studios. That will be the model: free, safe downloads and all you will have to do is put up with a minute or two of commercials. And, what media will be successful? GOOD media, not the stuff that has been advertised the most. The model will be there to spend less on advertising, and more on intriguing, thought provoking media. The best thing that has happened for consumer rights in our lifetime.

Good idea but there is a slight problem if you use True internet. I used torrents through VPNUK but True have throttled back to such an extent (13kbs) that VPNUK have given me a refund.

I am sure they will try to throttle all torrents, regardless if they are through a VPN or not before much longer.

  8. My TDS Salt meter that I use to check salt my saltwater pool has died on me!

Any ideas where I can get a replacement in Pattaya. Tried a few pool shops but no joy; they sell the salt but not the meter.

Alternatively does anyone know of an Instrument Tech who could repair it?

    Thanks

  9. Condos normally have two price lists. Farang & Thai but the Farang 49% tend to be the more expensive high floors and penthouses etc. From my experience, the thai 51% is discounted up to 30% from the farang pricelist and can also be bought by a farang with a shell company.

    Problem solved.

  10. I got my five year licence in January, upstairs at the road transport office in Banglamung. I took thirty minutes. You need a proof of residence from immigration, copy of your passport (signed buy you) and your old one year licence. Think it cost Baht 165

    Easy clap2.gif

Forgot to mention, they also want a signed copy of your old one year licence for some reason!

    Oink

Did you go before your 1 year license expired?

    Yep! 2 days before!

I think they are fairly flexible there except for the retard at the enterance. avoid him if you can! He will try and tell you your insurance is invalid and you have to buy from his agent!

About as useless as the guy at the enterance to immigration in Jomtiem whos primary job appears to be to give mis-information and send people away without explanation.

That said, someone took my tax disc off my bike. Went up there and was easy to replace. cost Baht 25. can you belive that!! But I did have a copy of the original!

  13. Is anyone else having problems with access to Hotmail. I just upgraded to IE 10 now I cannot access my Hotmail (Outlook) account!

Keep getting "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". or "Outlook is not currently available".

  14. Excellent thank you. So all I need to do is pop down to imigration, get a "proof of residence" and take a drive up to Chon Buri.

Don't use Google as I object to my actions and emails being monitored by the US government!

David48 I hold a UK passport but left 15 years ago so I do not want to pursue a UK IDP! Plus I do not have an address there any more as I sold up and have retired in Thailand!
