  1. Anyone know of a good refrigerator engineer. I have what was an expensive Samsung wine cooler.

The Samsung service engineers replaced the MPCB and compressor but now say the problem is with the thermostats, which are no longer available. I cannot belive that the thermostats are unique to this particular model (more likely, they do not know what they are doing and make up an excuse to get out the door).

I am hoping that someone who understands how these things work may be able to fix it.

    Thanks

  2. I tried to get some years ago from the fabric shop on 2nd Road. Confused the heck out of me as they kept showing me reels of cotton.

Be aware the English word dye, in Thai sounds like Fie (Fay) which means cotton.

So good luck with the blue dye!!

Surely all westerners living in Thailand would have a decent insurance policy?

The thing is that not everyone considers the medical insurance costs.

Once you hit 60 full medical goes up to $3,500 per person. So $7,000 for a retired couple. If you are planning on staying for 10 years, thay is $70,000 (2,400,000 Baht) in insurance premiums. That is why many self insure.

Plus if you do get sick your insurance preimums go up after you claim.

  4. In the last week I have been getting "an error occured when sending your request" message whenever I attempt to connect to the VPN I have been using for the last ten years to watch Youtube, Sky News Live etc. VPN provider confirm it is not there end and are running further checks. Asked 3bb if they have started "content filtering" They said they will check and call back. No return call. Somthing is not right.

Also I have used an app on my Phone called Dreamlab. It crunches data for cancer research and COVID, but only when the phone is on charge overnight. That is stopped from connecting also.

    Anyone else experiencing these issues?

  5. Assuming you want the Military Surplus shop and not the Military Depot.

It is at "Coffee War" on 331 on the right close to the Highway 7 junction. Cannot miss it as it has a Airbus A330 and several other aircraft you can walk around.

The same company also has a shop, on the left, going south on Sukhumvit almost opposite Ocean marina.

Thanks to all. I’m still confused cos about 12 yrs ago I quit a “top 3” university and retired on the extension. When the university asked me to return p-t 6 months later they took me to a small room in San Phlu and changed me back to 0 in 3 minutes, but I did need to go to the Labor Office the next day.

20 years ago, as a newbie, a respected southern university commanded me to head to Penang asap to get a real 0 instead of my 60 or 90 day tourist visa from Gibraltar. Luckily I turned that place down and went to Bkk where my new HRD said “rubbish” and got me all pukka in 4 hours.

To this day, I still wonder why some guys have to go to Penang or Hcm (I know Pinoys have to) while others don’t. Btw I’m a Brit.

I guess some guys comply with the laws and others pay agents.

As I am sure you know, that does happen from time to time.

  7. I had to go to Singapore to change my O tourist visa too B work visa.

Had to pay for visa, flights and hotel myself. Was not cheap.

Not sure about current insurance requirements coming back in on B Visa.

Then at the end of it all, you have to leave Thailand within 7 days of your employment ending (or be on overstay) to convert back to O or OA before returning and starting the retirement procedure all over again all at your own cost.

  8. Mr Jack second watch shop down on the right from Soi Buakow & Pattaya Klang intersection.

He has got replacement parts for my Brightling and at a fraction of the cost of the official shops in Bangkok (no you cannot get fake part for Brightling). He can fix anything.

He will provide all proof of the part and give you the part he replaced.

Replacement battery 110 baht regardless of make.

Exception was my Seiko Kinetic, 15 years old which required a replacement accumulator, like a battery but more expensive.
