  1. have talk again in a few days ok? i really dispirit with you...am oi na..if you wan contract my frind can I give ur number?

gawd.. Maybe you can get something out of the context, but a pita when you can't understand if they're trying to create drama or not..

I interpret it as one of the two following:

    1. Cannot talk to you for a few days ok. I'm really desperate for you.. will be out of reach. If you want to get in touch with me I will give you my friends number.

    2. We have to talk in a few days, ok? really dispirited by you.. I'm something something. If you want to be with my friend I will give her your number..

    Open to interpretation! :)

  2. This is kind of a matter of how you see it.. Compared to say NOK it's stayed pretty stable and the USD has fallen a great deal.. THB/NOK has been around 5-6 for the last 3 years at least and now it's at 5.7.. The USD however has dropped from around 8 to 5 (NOK/USD)..

  3. hmz.. อีสาน (Isaan which I would write it) -- I'm in the process of trying to learn to read thai and according to the reading I've learnt would actually be eesaan.. (saan should have a rising tone me thinks)

ฝรั่ง - (farang) -- Haven't learnt this many letters yet, but it's really pronounced as farang..

  4. You went to the fast track immigration, right? Not the normal one? Did the voucher look weird in any way?

Done fast track a few times and the rep has always met me right after coming out of the aircraft and handing over some voucher at the fast track immigration.. Which FT service did you use?

  5. @thaibeachlovers - the kids have to wai you in the morning and when they come home from school. If they don't, have your wife tell you how to tell them to wai you. You should reply with a nod as described above.

You now have a brilliant opportunity to learn the kids how they should behave. By the sound of it, it seems that person has been lacking so far.. Go for it! Play with them and teach them respect and general manners, etc.

Btw, I think maybe they should wai you before going to bed too, not sure about that one though... But it seems likely..

  6. Kind of depends how old he is I guess. If he's younger than you at least it's your decision, if he's older than you he should have known better..

The kids/nephews/whatever always has to ask me before borrowing computer/tablet/phone etc. The rest of my stuff they generally aren't interested in.. You have toys they want to play with? Sharing stuff is rather common, but expensive stuff that can break you can keep to yourself without causing any resentment at all. If you want to keep your football to yourself some people might look weird at you :P

The phrase 'mai dtawng leeuy' might be good to learn sooner rather than later

Uh, yeah, and make sure they return stuff after they are finished with it..

  7. Like spacemand said, depends on your ticket type. Travelling full flex/business you can usually change it any way you like, super saver economy web special fare etc your money is lost. However, usually your travel insurance will cover any loss to catch up to your itinerary (assuming you have one, that it covers delays and you have allotted enough time between flights, check your policy)

That being said -- I have heard of people being moved to a later flight without any extra charge.. Anyone know if that is normal policy for some airlines?

  8. All seasons/ibis is a nice hotel. And there is a brilliant restaurant a few minutes walk away. You should be able to get a rate at about 1000-1200baht/night -- only bummer is the drive in to town, but if you're used to huamark I guess you know.

Btw, photos & video of hotels always looks better than reality. At least for the lobby and swimming pool in this case, the rooms probably look a bit nicer, but don't expect swans.

  9. But if you choose to live in Thailand and choose to marry a poor Thai then that is what you sign up for..up to you really.

Uh, no. Only grandmother has gotten a couple thousand baht when I came visit.

I think lovelomsak has the right opionion (at least to a certain degree).

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life" is probably what it all comes down to. If people get used to receiving money every month, then they will be content with that. In other words, do not give money away unless you are prepared to keep it up.

  10. Argh! I was reading and reading and was getting really annoyed about this thread not being about wine until I saw SCs post about whining..

PS: If someone knows where to get imported wine in abundance (and at reasonable prices) please do inform me.

  11. If you are not picky about dates, airberlin flies you to munich for 390 € or air asia flies you to paris for around 15000THB. Fuel prices has increased and may account for some of the higher price. Regular airlines usually charge more out of asia than in to asia.

Do NOT book a return-ticket originating in germany and expect to only use the return, they will cancel it.

Egypt air 390€ (and if you add 240 you'll get back to bkk too)

For a one-way ticket I wouldn't considere these prices unreasonable.

  12. "Network traffic" meaning something like: Too many users at any given time and not enough capacity of the provider to handle the amount of traffic ?

Also I heard, that it makes a big difference how far away the next "tower" is (?)

    Thanks & cheers.

Probably what it means. And yes, distance to the tower you are connected to has some impact, but doesn't help if it is 100 meters from the tower and there are several concrete walls between you!

  13. I use the FAST Track service inbound and outbound now, can't be arsed with lines, it's bad enough having to travel all the time.

If you get the same guy at the fast track service a couple of times he might offer you a deal, wink wink, nudge nudge......

    JH

What kind of deal are we talking about and is he cute?

  14. How come one sock from a pair goes missing? Where does it go?

It gets eaten by the washing machine (or hungry maid, whichever applies)

Why does a fart smell so much worse when you do it in the bath?

Because the fart isn't warm enough to go over the edge of the tub and so remains there until you've inhaled & exhaled it all.

how did the noodle seller end up with every spoon i own?

Seriously? Don't bring your own spoons to the noodle shop, bring their spoons back to your place! (alternatively, if you buy a cup from the store, a plastic fork will accompany it)
