Well I decided to go over to the airport office to check for myself and was surprised to see that they're doing the 90-day reports again. Last time I tried it there they told me to go to the Prom branch and handed me a map to where it was. Today I walked in, got in the 5 person line and was processed through and back out in 20 minutes total.;)

Today I went back to the airport branch for my 90-day and was told they were not doing them anymore.   Don't, do, don't .... they need a update flag on their website or some indicator. Back to the suicide runs to Prom. again for me.

Ditto for me...could not connect when using a Thailand IP address....tried a VPN connection via Singapore and reached the site.   I expect Suntrust has just blocked Thailand IP addresses.  Not uncommon for some sites to block some countries/regions.

Appreciate the verification. I guess a call is in order when they open for business.

I am able to access https://www.suntrust.com/ using a Singapore VPN. Turned it off to use a Thai IP and get a cannot connect message. It seems they are blocking Thai IP's.

Thanks. That's what it sounds like to me also. I'm not really comfortable using a VPN for personal banking .Passing sensitive data through another server for anyone to read even though they say it's encrypted.

  4. Just wondering if anyone else here has a Suntrust (U.S.) bank account and no longer able to do online banking? I do and cannot connect to anything related to Suntrustdotcom. I've tried several pc's, tablet, different location with their Internet and pc with same results so don't believe it's an issue related to my home.

Appreciate anyone's experience with this before making the dreaded "please hold for the next available representative" phone call.

  6. Hello, I scanned through this topic first before posting this question. During my last visit to the prom imm office I asked about 90-day reporting ever starting up again at the airport imm office (I can walk there so easier). The officer doing my visa work told me both locations handle 90-day reporting now. My question is, has anyone used the airport office for their 90-day reporting in person, recently?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Since this is a thread about the cold-ish weather of late--I have a question, does anyone know where one could buy a reasonably decent [not sub-zero, Arctic type] sleeping bag in CNX?

My daughter went on a couple of school trips to higher altitudes last year and her thin sleeping bag didn't really do the job--I am hoping to find one before she needs it next time.

I seem to recall seeing some decent quality ones at Sports World (3rd floor Kad Suan Kaew).

  8. I don't think I have seen digital ones here

Shame as I love radios too

Hi LawrenceChee. I was out looking some more and stumbled avcross a shop that has this style of radio. 350 baht. It's located inside Computer City (not Plaza), ground floor. As you enter the right side doors it's the shop on your left at the first corner inside.

Just thought I'd pass that along since you mentioned you loved radios.smile.png

  9. My son has a cheap LG cell phone, no Bluetooth, no wifi, but it has FM radio. He paid less than 500 baht new. The redeeming feature was dual sims. You can only set 10 stations. Reception seemed fine to me. You can listen with ear buds or turn on the speakerphone.

    Grin

That's not a bad idea and I may have to go that route if nothing else is found. Appreciate the tip.smile.png

Appreciate the reply! They do seem to be a thing of the past around here. A small electronics shop called New Service on Ratchawong Rd. (across from Kasem's) used to carry them but now says his source in BKK no longer carries them.

  11. Bump. Still searching and can add Power Buy, Ban and Beyond mall and Denchai to the list. A couple years back I ordered 25 of this (attached) style and they are starting to fail now. I don't particularly want to order them over the Internet if I can find them in CM.

Anybody seen these around? Thanks in advance for any help.smile.png

  12. Has anyone seen the little portable "walkman" style FM radio's with a digital read-out in any shops around town? The places I've checked, unsucessfully, so far have been,

Lotus, Big C, Central, Robinsons, Makro, Amorn, Computer Plaza/City, Pantip Plaza, Kitty Electronics, Ham Electronics, Beauty Electronics, New Service, and Siam T.V. The attachment is just an example. Anything close will do.

The church I attend uses these for the Thai translation service and could use new ones. The digital read-out is easier to tune than the analog scale type which are easy to locate.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  13. Well the law applies to everyone so why think westerners should not be treated like the Thai people. It is about time people driving without a license or a helmet should be made to pay for there stupidity. They should also increase the fine to make people think twice when not following the LAW

quote: " They should also increase the fine to make people think twice when not following the LAW "

I couldn't agree more but don't believe the " think twice when not following the LAW"  would change.wink.png

  14. You didn't specify what sort of telescope you were looking for, but if for terrestrial use, such as a high-power 'spotting scope,' the Archery Shop/range next to the golf course at Chiang Mai Star Dome sells 'Bausch & Lomb' and 'Bushnell' brands, both well known for quality products. These usually range from 40-60 power.

Thanks FG, never realized that they were there, right down the road too. I Googled around and found Outdoor Vision Chiang Mai branch and will now have to go check 'em out to see what they have.

  15. Hi Chuang.  Since I've been in Chiang Mai I have never seen any quality 'scopes anywhere. Plenty of the lower quality refractor (department store) types but that's about it. A few years ago there was a shop in Airport Plaza that had a nice Meade compound stuffed away up on a shelf but that's been long gone. Think it was a decoration. There is an astronomy organization in Chiang Mai http://www.narit.or.th/en/ that might be worth contacting. They may be able to help. When I retired and settled here I shipped my stuff over thinking it would probably be less expensive.

Sorry, I can't answer the scope carry-on question as I haven't been keeping up with the air travel regs.

    Cheers

  16. Here are 2 very good ones (both right near each other):

    1. Dr. Piyapong (Mohr Aaa)
Ban Mha Ka Maew Animal Hospital
    Mahidol Road
    Pa Daet, Mueang
    50100

    2. Metta Animal Hospital on Chiangmai Land right near Chang Klan

All doctors at the clinic are good

I'll second Ban Mha Maew Animal Hospital. We've been using them for 8 years and never disappointed with their work. They even come to your house if you choose which makes it easier for us when our 5 dogs need shots. The two doctors we've always dealt with speak very good English, http://banmhakamaew.com/about_en.php .

  17. Sorry I don't have any referrals for the OP but do have a piece of advice for electrical DIY'rs in Thailand. Be very watchful when working with Thai electrical wiring! More than once I've found the power still applied to the circuit even though the breaker is turned off (or fuse removed). I've seen where the 'hot' side was connected to the common/return side instead of the breaker/fused side of the circuit where it should be and disconnecting power doesn't break it. Just a heads up.wink.png
