  1. I still have a pair I saved (believe from an old True Life+ add) and just tried viewing your APOD pics wearing them with very little to no change with the images. Maybe I am looking at something else than what you're refering to? I always thought for red/blue 3D glasses to work properly the image had to be pretty much double exposed in red/blue texture ? The APOD images I just looked at appear to be exposed for normal viewing not 3D.

  2. Well, I've only been in town for 14 months, but I don't find this Pun Pun over pushed. There is a sort of comradery within in the food providers in town, it is true. We customers will join in from time to time. Not a little is tongue-in-cheek (indirect) fun. Also, advertisers not infrequently post specials and special events. Additionally, some of us food hounds can't keep quiet when we have something we find tasty. Others (ahem) appreciate cut-rate bargains, which have been plentiful this last year, not a few here.

Anyway, much of it is innocent fun or advertising - welcomed by the Th Vi people when it's related to advertising revenues and, ultimately, our being here. Personally, if I don't like a thread, I ignore it. For example, if you find my thinking negative, please ignore me! :( But I still think you should try the meat loaf dinner. Or the beef stew. Maybe the superman b'fast. But I've more to try.:D

... and their coffee ain't bad with that Superman b'fast!

  3. Yeah..... Yeah..... and when pigs fly, I be making flying Garlic pork knuckle dinners :D

Oh and just watched an old favourite, 'Air America' with Mel Gibson filmed over at Mae Hong Son, which showed them parachute-dropping crated-pigs to the villagers, I think I'd pass on the experience !

A lot off topic, but I still chuckle remembering a American tv show where they dropped live turkeys out of a helicopter during a holiday period promotion. The brain behind the promotion when interviewed said "I did not know turkeys could not maintain flight when dropped like that" as the dead/crippled turkeys were being rescued/retrieved. Ok back to Pun Pun, sorry gonzo

Remember that one always, 'WKRP Cincinnatti'

Ok, now back to Pun Pun ....

Great movie. I was having a meal in the Bier Stube while part of that was being filmed across the moat near the Aroon Rai. They were simultaneously filming up in Mae Hong Son then. I went up there the next day and saw that twin engine C-123 sitting there along with a busted up helicopter. Never saw any actors/stars though. Whoops, thread stealin' here. Now back to your regularly scheduled program, "Flying Pigs and Pork knuckle dinners".:jap:

  5. I just had my first experience at the Pun Pun this morning and really enjoyed my time there. Got to finally meet up with Mr. Gonzo and had a good home style breakfast. Definately worth the visit and look forward to doing it again.

    Thanks Pun Pun!

  6. They have been preparing for Children's Day...which is TODAY so prepare for a heck of a lot more noise for longer periods.

I got stuck at he airport once for threee hours on Children's Day a few years ago because flights are delayed so the airforce can show off thier flying skills.

Just a pity they don't have any Red Arrows here. :(

Didn't they pass through here a year or two ago? Great team. Wouldn't mind seeing the Thunderbirds and/or Blue Angels either but not going to hold my breath for them either.:whistling:

  7. That was truly a trip down memory lane. And seeing how quickly restaurants disappear, move to another location or change owners and name it is also remarkable that these visitors were able to find the Pun Pun still operating and at the same location.

Miracles do happen.....or maybe I'm just a stick in the mud and too stuborn to know when to hold em or fold em.

Besides if I fold em, I'd have to pick on TV Members by writing rather than pick on em and give em a hard time when they come in

    :D

.... Maestro, if you would please delete the second or latter post on the same topic,,,,, posted in error. tnx

ditto for me please, wasn't there a minute ago. strange.

  8. Wow, that's amazing after all these years that your friends still had that card and even had it with them during their visit! I was introduced to this wondeful city about that time and have also witness the changes over the years. I'm all for growth and advancements but still feel uneasy with it's westernization (is that a word?) There aren't many places left on this planet like Chiang Mai and it's changing too fast.

  9. The security guards inside Airport Plaza generally unlock the plaza doors at 10:30AM. The inside shops, even though their opening hours are shown as 10:30 or 11AM, usually get going a little later after. Not sure what time in the night they close back up though.

  10. coma and thaiwx

well you two obviously know what your talking about : )

re ... Hope you didn't take it from your bedroom window

nahhh ... hang dong road ... this is the view i wake up to every morning

    dave2

That is a great view to be waking up to every morning Dave 2. I was just a little worried you were living at the und of the runway :D . Have a good weekend.

That is a great view to start off your day with. Looks like up around the San Sai area judging from Doi Suthep's position.

  11. coma.

    re ... F16A/B's

is this one ? ... thats what was flying round here yesterday

    dave2

L-39 Albatros trainers.. Those buzz around here just about every day. Wing 41 exercises. Not nearly as noisy as the F-16's when they come around.

  12. Here's a few snakes that I (or my dogs) found in my garden in San Sai in the last few weeks. A Burmese Python, Striped Keelback and a water snake of some sort, as far as I could tell from looking at pics on the internet.

Wow, that Striped Keelback is one I've yet to see around here even though they're supposed to be common. Thanks for the pic. What did you do with the Python?

  13. I've seen many common water snakes here that you will see often on land but not far from water. They are usually darker than the adult in this picture (at least the majority I've seen). I've rescued a few from old fishing nets left behind in streams/klongs. Not saying this is what you saw but a possibility.

  14. Can't you just take the sois parallel to the road along the river? I did that around New Years because I wanted to avoid the Hang Dong road. Almost just as easy as the road along the river.

As a matter of fact that is the detour route they have designated, parallel sois. It fine as long as you don't need to cross Mahidol (Airport) Hwy and continue into town. There you have to take the Hwy. all the way up to the airport intersection and turn toward town. To bad there isn't a pass through either under or over to cut across the hwy. in that area.

  15. So.. does anyone still think it's hot.

So funny all these newbies who've been here like 3 years and didn't quite catch on yet to the fact that cold weather comes and goes in spells, with most spells occurring in December and January. It's quite an irregular graph and varies a lot year on year when cold spells happen. You could have most in December, or late january.. you never know.

No, it is not hot now, and since a similar statement a couple of months ago, we have not had ANY hot days :whistling:

Comfortable temps around CM compared to what Doi Inthanon is experiencing now (now mak!) http://www.nationmul...n-30145216.html
