If you're handy with a soldering iron there are electronic parts shops in CM that have the parts to make your own. I recently built a PI type. Not the prettiest but works great and a whole lot less expensive than a factory built one. Been experimenting with different coils for it as well.
OMG your amazing! My and Mr Attol spend some time on the island doing this. Friends laughed at us until after 100's of rusted nails and Chang bottle caps we found some good stuff. and have reaped a few rewards for for finding lost rings from the owners.
That is what I would like to do, get out to the beaches and do some searching. Maybe later this summer.

Looking for alternatives to the $50 U.S. notary, I asked at the C.M. Immigration if my yearly retirement visa docs could be notarized by a local Thai notary. The answer was that it would be only accepted from the U.S. Consulate notary. Just a heads up.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but do have a question. I have been trying to do the same, on-line queue for a retirement extension. I keep seeing no days available for the full 100 days ahead that you can book. No days available through to September. Can you please provide a link that you used? I heard that the farang link is bad and you need to use the Thai one but no go. The one you used must be working.
Thanks.

I buy it here at Pharma Choice along with Norgesic (not for sale in the states either). Together they work wonders for muscle spasm/cramps.

Some bars is still open after 10pm but they close the metal door (forgot what is called) and the army&police dont seem to bother. I played some pool with my friends and walked back home around 12ish.
By the way: Anyone heard of someone getting fined by the army?
Sent from my GT-I9082L using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Not saying that doesn't happen but I went by the Boxing Ring on Loi Kroh on my way home, 1100 pm ish and it appeared that the bars really were closed up. But they have experience fooling the cops (closing hours reference...)
I wouldn't expect, after years of this going on from time to time, that anyone is being fooled. Perhaps the police don't bother establishments that close up the doors and make an attempt to appear closed to the public.?.?.

Rain
in Chiang Mai
Well, my weather app shows T Storms all next week starting Sunday. I hope it's right.
That pretty much matches the TMD's warning http://www.tmd.go.th/en/list_warning.php .

It shows 37C (99F) right now in cm, whereas, in Bangkok it shows 35C(95F). Somehow, it's more bearable here than in Bangkok. Don't know the exact reasons why. At home, I need to get the a/c on due mainly to the computers running!
Similar situation here. Since the temps started up like they are now I've found my desktop starting to reboot on it's own in the afternoons. I opened it, cleaned and checked all fans and air passages and found the CPU's heat sink fins clogged with dust. After cleaning it out and re-applying fresh heat transfer compound to the sink-CPU contact it now runs fine. Thermal shutdown. The higher temperatures brought this to my attention and got me checking the other pc's now.

The OP must be very proud ,killing a completely harmless snake,
while if he just put a little effort into studying the snakes of Thailand
he could easily recognize the handful of ones that could be a threat,
The Krait ,deadly but very docile, the Cobra,in all my time here I have
never seen one, seen lots of other snakes, but they were always going
in the other direction, which snakes do if the encounter a person, snakes
do not willfully attack people in Thailand at least.
regards Worgeordie
Same with me, living here since 1987. I am more worried about getting bitten by one of those huge centipedes or stung by a scorpion, neither should do you in but you're more apt to encounter one.

cheap ones down on chang moi road. small electronic shop next to the honda parts store. i bought on there 19 volt 3-4 amp i think was 450 baht. mikes burger on thapae turn left down the one way street. 200 meters or on right...
take your old one with you.
or Amorn shop on the moat by computer plaza usually has em.. little more money there 1-300 more...
Seems impossibly cheap.. Perhaps you are thinking of a power supply that connects to the mains?
Are you not asking where to find these in a 19 volt supply? These connect to mains and down convert the power for a notebook/laptop. I might has mis-interpreted your "Need to but a power bank suitable for charging a laptop/notebook" title.

Loatian Wolf snake?
That's my guess as well. Sure looks like a Wolf snake. Non-poisonous. Similar in appearance to the highly venomous Banded Krate but the Krate has a triangular shape body and different head markings.

" Someone please tell me if they can go to the Zoo and Doi Suthep? Is there any chance that there will be lunatics throwing water in those parts of town...? "
" I can't imagine people splashing each other either at the Zoo or at Wat Suthep - but then, with Thai people, you never know... "
Anywhere outside throughout Thailand you are susceptible to getting splashed.

Expensive or not, I don't take that into consideration, and maybe
other people do too,I live here because I like living here,I don't
exactly know what it is about Chiang Mai,it just feels comfortable ,
like an old pair of shoes, nothings really a hassle here, some may
say getting your extension every year may fall in to that category
bit with a little planning, couple hours one day every year.
Yes prices are going up,nearly every week,I don't know what the
cost of living is like back home, have not been back for 20 odd years,
and don't want to,it would have my head spinning, too many changes.
maybe the biggest change here is the availability of goods you need,
before if you needed anything just a little different ,it had to be sent
from Bangkok,or you had to go to Bangkok or even Singapore to find
it.
So if you find Chiang Mai is boring, getting too expensive, too much smoke
just bugger off somewhere else, its that simple.
regards Worgeordie
Well said Worgeordie! Since I've been here (1989) I haven't had 1 day were I felt I'd rather be somewhere else. Great food, people, weather (no snow/frost/ice) and my retirement pension allows me to live comfortably.

Medical expenses are way cheaper here than stateside, at least it has been for me over the years. Example, a few years back I was stung by a scorpion and my wife drove me to the hospital for treatment. It was on a Sunday morning and when I arrived we were directed to the emergency reception area. I was immediately accepted and given treatments for the sting. A doctor came in and explained what I needed to do and watch for. When all was over (doctor visits, billing, prescription pick-up,etc.) we walk away with a total bill of 150 baht. Heck, in the states parking at the hospital would have been that much.

Really dramatic drop in the PM10 count. Today, March 23 at 11:00AM PM10 34
Yeah, I noticed today I could see Doi Suthep from Airport Plaza again. The first time in a couple days. The breeze blowing and temps slightly lower too makes it easier to bear as well.

tot service

I'm using TOT as well and had an issue where several websites weren't accessible through my WiFi but could be reached on 3G. Modem and router resets didn't change anything and using the 'tracert' command indicated TOT was the problem. This went on for a day or so but noticed all back to normal again this morning (2/7).
