  1. Should be "Spain beat England", with the emphasis on the better team, not the one that thinks they are better. The arrogance of the English, they're coming home.
  2. Thanks
  3. Which language are these words, Sanskrit? In Thai, Metta is 'Loving Kindness' Karuna is 'Please' Mudita I don't know.
  4. I worked at top Thai universities and never published anything in 25 years. Teachers at my university, which was founded in the 1400s, never had to publish, it's a US thing, where they call teachers 'professors' when they are not really.
  5. It would useful to see a photo of the visa. Good for him - I advise some expat of that age to get a part-time job as a teacher for a year, in order to get Health insurance for 432 baht a month for life.
  6. Usually, you can't get the social fund over 60. Maybe the guy is under 60.
  7. Huge! Could also mean retirees could become naturalized citizens.
  8. George was the founder of this forum, in case you didn't know. If he say it, I believe it.
  9. The underdog winning make me cry.
  10. I never knew his dad too ????
  11. First time I've heard prostitutes being called 'talent' ????
  12. Was she clever or desperate, due to addiction to food?
  13. It's ultimately up to the Mob, and the organized crime gangs. One thing is sure, Pat Pong will not be going anywhere.
  14. Seems you have a chip on your shoulder about Thai men. A common misconception by foreign men is that Thai women prefer them to Thai men, which couldn't be further from the truth.
  15. Obviously, they target foreign criminals first, like all countries do. I talked recently with a friend, who is a deputy commissioner in the RTP, about foreign criminals and the threat they are to the country, especially in Hua Hin and Pattaya. Granted, this crime is at the bottom of the list. Interesting that the Immigration police made the arrest, as it was instigated by the CSD. Amazing all the comments about not going after Thai criminals. Foreign crime is rife in Thailand, and most of the criminals are illegals, they don't have a Work Permit, they buy their visa from an agent, in order to bypass the immigration requirements. They are next on the list, along with motorcycle outlaws.
  16. I'd like to know this as it obviously is important to what has been said. Those who can't speak Thai cannot understand what you have eloquently said. Those who have not lived here for many years, don't speak the language and therefore can't understand the culture, don't understand how in tourist areas the local want to strictly separate farang from Thais. They really don't care if your Thai is perfect, you are a farang and they love to keep you in your place. When you live here for years, in my case most of my life, the racial attitude of many Thais becomes clear. As you say, when you live in a tourist place and have dedicated most of your life to fit into a culture, to be 'kept in your place' gets frustrating at times. My local 7/11 really takes the biscuit. I was there a month ago using the chip dip service I needed for Bitkub. I had never done this before so asked a couple of staff how it was done. The shop was quiet and they commented that they had never had a farang do this before and also how well I spoke Thai. I went in a couple of days later with my 20 year old daughter and they asked her if I wanted a member! I've been 4/5 times since and every time the stare at the till not telling me how much the bill is, which is what they do with foreigners. As St Francis said - 'seek rather to understand than to be understood', ah the tribulations of being a farang in Thailand.
