  1. Can't you go to the bank by yourself? Are you suggesting the agents that help you get around the financial requirements are 'immoral'?
  2. I have no idea why you think I should be ashamed of my opinion of the fact.???? Of course he is being hounded for being rich/famous. I personally know 2 foreigners who have done very similar crimes(1 exactly the same) and paid under 1 million baht to avoid prosecution, but did get fired from their teaching jobs. I also have heard of many Thais who do similar things.
  3. Do you mean like OJ Simpson? Would the average Homer Simpson walk free from this murder charge?
  4. For sure, the Red Bull family will have talked to the police, which any one of us would do if it were our family, to get the best possible deal. My point was really just that this guy should get the same fine/punishment as the local rice farmer who does the same thing; in my area, this kind of crime happens all the time, albeit with Lao Khao, not cocaine, 30 y/o pickup, not a Ferrari. There are no International chases and harassment of these guys, quick 50k baht and over.
  5. Sure, that is possible/likely. Should compensation be related to the wealth of the person? Billionaire should pay the same fines as everyone else, IMHO.
  6. If you were them, would you accept the 3 million, when the normal amount is 50,000? Or would you want to get into a legal battle with billionaires in a corrupt legal system?
  7. Why should the police care about prosecuting him? Maybe because it was one of their own who was the victim? I doubt it, police here need an incentive to go out their way. Hi-sos get what they want, and most people here accept this, apart from foreigners who generally have no influence and are not even on the bottom rung of the Thai hierarchical social ladder. Remember Duangchalerm, the son of Chalerm Yubamrung? He killed a police officer in a nite club in Thong Lor but shooting him in front of 22 witnesses. If you don't; he went on the run and now is a marksman in the RTP. Hi-sos get what they want, just forget this case as everyone else has.
  8. The parents of the deceased made a deal in the millions. Usually, it is 50,000.
  9. "He who is without sin, cast the first stone" comes to mind. His many of you partake in corruption here, like pay 200 baht to the policeman when speeding, or pay 20,000 baht to a visa agent so you don't need to show funds in the bank, or pay for extra classes for your kid so they pass their exams, or pay immigration 2000 baht so you don't need a embassy letter etc? Boss is being hounded just for being rich. A normal person pays 50,000 baht for this crime. How many of you would pay for your kids to walk from this kind of thing?
  10. No, it was in Krung Thai. The woman was telling foreigners they couldn't get interest and pocketing it. I asked a former Minister of Finance(Khun Korn) to help; he sent his team and the bank started giving interest but they asked me not to press charges and ask for back payment as she would lose her job. She still works there so might have an axe to grind.
  11. I've currently got a large sum in one bank, waiting to buy a house. How high is the risk that someone in the bank could steal it? I've had issues in the bank before where a member of staff was stead long interest. Should I open other accounts in other banks and put 1 million in each, or is this paranoia?
  12. No, gold is not a good investment, I'm in bitcoin, much easier to store and has increased by an average of 100% a year.
  13. Very good and true quote. These people went to Pattaya with no shame to give them sexual pleasures, they should go back where they came from, they will be looked after, especially as they were sending back Gunther, Bert, and Svenn's hard earned cash. No one starves in Thailand, they are not willing to lose face and go home but looking for the farang to help them out.
  14. I was referring to those under 60 with no conditions. Mind you, we don't really need one.
  15. Better to have some integrity and bravery, IMHO. What about other crimes, does this attitude apply? For example, if someone is getting raped or murdered.
  16. The very definition of an alcoholic is someone who has lost the ability to control their own drinking.
  17. I am, so is Albert McIntyre, the most famous Thai singer. and The condom king, and Minister of Tourism, Meechai Viravaida.
  18. Last time I went to there, I was nearly shot. This was in 1993 and we were advised not to take a taxi from the airport as they robbed you. The went to a hotel in Ermitta and young ladies assaulted me in the street! Took the public bus to White Beach, and the first night went to a disco where a German guy was shot in the head for refusing to give a fag to a local. Nice beaches, more beautiful women than Thailand but is it safe now?
  19. Does anyone know a quality shop to buy online?
  20. Why use a bank of you can get 10%+ interest per year on things like this? https://celsius.network/
  21. 2 weeks ago, I started cutting out an evening meal, drinking only a fruit/vegetable shake. I only eat weetabix and mango for breakfast and 2 sandwiches(4 slices of loaf) for lunch. The only other thing I eat is mixed nuts in the evening when very hungry. I was 89 kg and dropped to 87 kg, but now 88 kg. I am 190 cm tall. I also run 25 km per week. What could I be doing wrong?
  22. I have a little spiritual book which I found in India. It is kind of between Buddhism and Hinduism. I chose one at random every day. I'd like to share todays one with you. "If I am always comparing myself with other human beings, I will SUFFER from ego or jealousy"
