I worked until 57....During my working years I had exactly 3 "vacations"....My work was stressful & usually the limit was 9 years before burnout or heart attack.....At one point my BP was at 206 over 139 and under pressure I started getting eyebrow ticks.....
I vacationed with my daughter & a lady friend to Australia - where I met Bob....He retired in his early 50's....As we sipped a few beers together he advised me - retire as early as you can....Bob & his wife affirmed most of their co-workers were dying off before retirement age....Shortly after that I found a study that stated only 34% in the US reached retirement age....
After that, I retired as soon as I was able & it has been the best thing I've done.... I've no doubt that if I'd tried to work & claw my way through another 10 years or so, I wouldn't be alive to be writing this comment now.... Unfortunately, my youngest US daughter is one of the ones that didn't make it (26)....

I keep a vehicle & RV stored & provisioned in the US that has given us countless pleasant memories....
Partially because of the uncertainties of life -
If something disastrous were to happen here I'd think about taking a few things + my dog & go RV'ing the US until (I/we?) either come back here or end up there .... I have, established grown daughters here & in the US....
I'm not really "needed" in either place & tend to be fiercely independent....

I made a mistake & bought a small tank for my BBQ....After it emptied I couldn't find anyone willing to refill an odd sized tank - when it would have been much easier to just exchange the standard sized tank....
I believe what you are buying is a tank & gas - that you can exchange for refilling....That seems to be how it works here versus the US where I have my RV tanks refilled each time....
Stay with the standard sized tanks....
I actually found that the size tank I insisted on turned out to be a pain in the a$s....

Flight time Bangkok - Seoul is the same as LA - NYC.
OP asked "near Thailand".
LOL you're right....The trips have been so seem less & easy I didn't even think about that.....

I'll tell you in 4 years....However in our last US trip, weather & miss timed connecting flights cost us 3 extra days scurrying 2 different airports with the typical long distance brisk walking, lugging backpacks & other bags trying to make connections that eventually turned out not connecting due to a ticket printing error didn't tax me....At 76 & counting.....It should have been 2 days, ended up at 5.5 days.....

We've gone to Seoul for 2-4 days gambits.....
It's got a different pulse to it with a lot of things to see....The night markets & walking streets are clean with many things to see.... The transport systems are easy to use.....

Perfect place for you Bob Scat. Food is shiite, prossies up the wazoo, English accents annoying AF, filth of the highest order, violent crime highest in SE Asia, awful infrastructure, typhoons, religious evangelism, wholesale poverty, what's not to love about it? Just promise us you won't come back. And, if you forget to write us about it, no worries; nobody will even notice. Good riddance.
Reality...Without even touching on the dangers....

Thais tend to wear new clean clothes , Westerners often wear old clothes and often unwashed .
That T-shirt that you are wearing now , how long ago did you buy it and for how many days have you been wearing it ?
T-shirts are for around the house.... Polo shirts are for outside wear....At least that's my approach.....As soon as a t-shirt starts to fray at the collar or get stained they are repurposed ....
I have some of my old team/playing jerseys that are 10+ years old or more and essentially close to new ....

It's just below the last post - right side....
I haven't seen any change....

Star Visa just down the street from the US Consulate.... There's a parking garage across the street ....
Star also has a 2nd office behind the Big C out on the great highway....
There's a photo shop near Rim Ping rear exit at the Mae Hia market with adjoining parking....

I've seen Chicago twice....The first time seemed like a powerful performance.....The second time they had the Beach Boys opening for them....The BB were so over amplified that kids were crying & people were moving back away from some speaker positions holding their hands over their ears....
Chicago then came on & almost sounded muted....

I'm definitely more country oriented....I was raised in a small community about 15 miles away from a large city & have kept the same pattern ever since.... Usually within a half hour/hour drive to a city....
Close enough for convenience & far enough away to be away from it.
..I generally don't like cities....

I don't see enough clearance to make useful....
I'm not a big proponent of plastic for heavy duty or hazardous applications....

My wife put one out under her car....Only problem came when it was not far enough away from our daytime tethered cat....
The trap caught the rat & the cat....What a huge sound explosion as our cat got half of himself glued to the trap in a confined space under the car & then bolted into his kitty condo....
What a frickin mess trying to free, clean, & calm down a very frightened & not too happy good sized cat....

My wife makes sure I turn the engine off if parked up with a shop or vendor nearby..... It's common courtesy.....
You could be choking many people inside shop areas.....Chances are they are running fans trying to move the hot air around which is now being injected with diesel fumes.....
You blow out their clientele, possibly taint their product offerings - all in the name of YOUR comfort....
Completely thoughtless & rude - by any standards....
And we wonder where their "smiles" went where Farangs are concerned.....

What makes getting in & out of your car difficult?
I've blown up both ankles in 2 different sports requiring over 4 hours of emergency surgery....I was told no more sports & I would always have limp....The first thing I did once I got the thigh high cast off was attempting to THEN running up the hill trails by my neighborhood....Result - played sports another 40 years & no limp....I was told at 22 I had an arthritic spine & curtail all activities....I looked at my Mom in her 50's that did what the Dr's said & she was hobbled by a basically frozen spine = I kept on with my sports....
I've probably outlived all those Dr's & at 6'4" can still touch the floor with the flat of my palms....I walk my dog 4x a day + ride my bicycle most days....76 years old...
Man, if you don't have any serious condition get out there, foster, increase & expand your activities....
Get out there and slay your dragons, small ones first & gain the confidence to overcome your doubts...

This info is very interesting. I did not realize that a Thai drivers license could be legal in the U.S. What about insurance polices in the U.S.? Do insurance companies cover if a person has a Thai drivers license?
It can be done but you have to go to (find) an independent broker.....
I tried to restart my AAA coverage = they couldn't but sent me to a local broker....It ended up about $800 to cover my 4Runner....We logged over 5k miles as we RV'd about...
I did get an IDP = nobody paid any attention to it, however, it's my understanding that certain states absolutely require it while others do not....
I got it just for backup & will for the next trip too....
I did take a paper copy of my TH auto insurance, so they couldn't claim I was driving uninsured. It wasn't used - but I'll continue to do this as an ounce of prevention....

Yeah - sh*t like that happens....
I got pinned down on an SFO - SYD fight by a lady that cranked the seat back & took a sleeping pill or 2....She didn't move the entire 17 hour flight.... I'm 6ft4in & it was either knees locked straight or indian style....The flight attendant couldn't rouse her....
In truth, however, the lady paid for that seat, including the reclining position to use at her privilege.....
What's worse to me is having a pushing & kicking kid in the seat directly behind me grinding his feet into the seat back....
