what happened to the closing down of these "camps" ? Seriously, I thought the UNHCR and NGOS were pulling out . wasn't it sometime last year? some have lived there upwards of what 30 years ? how can they be classified as refugees ? this should be the last straw , Thailand has tolerated this far to long.

That's very surprising because it's Thai government policy to rotate government workers every few years: public prosecutors, judges, teachers, MoE staff, MoT staff, administrative staff of all kinds, medical staff, and certainly the officers who work in my local immigration office too. It's also frequent in the private sector, notably banks.
I'm not saying that all government workers get rotated every 2 or 3 years, but I know many that have been, and I know for a fact it's policy.
In the UK the Prime Minister and the Minister for Home Affairs have explicitly instructed immigration officers to create a "hostile environment" for would be immigrants. Thank goodness Thailand is so welcoming by comparison.
But it's true that many people who wear uniforms seem to get off on the power it confers. Chin up my friend.
Huh ?

Oh no, another rocket scientist seems to have engaged....
My point ( which you appeared to have missed ) is that tourist scams go on all over the world, they are by no means unique to Thailand.
you just don't get it. no one cares if it happens all over the world, I am sure they do already know. people are talking about issues in Thailand ,because...... this is a Thailand specific forum not an international forum. therefore comments are ........ unless your one of the foreigners who are living in a foreigner bubble, there is living in Thailand and then there are the ones who make the appearance of living in Thailand. ( the bubble effect ).

Are you suggesting thailand is the only place with taxi scams / jetski scams?
Very naive.
Most likely because we are in a Thailand forum ? that should have been obvious.

I hope someone here can clear this up for you , because I am almost positive the deadline is sometime this month , and they have not as yet decided to extend another round of covid extensions.

isn't Nov. 24 th the deadline for this round of Covid extensions ?

There are a lot more in Maesot ! Maybe get on the Immigration ass to stop them , and stop assisting, and stop making it okay to live here if they pay the police protection every month and daily if they work. oh... wait that puts a dent in the police pockets, how will they afford their shiny new cars and beautiful houses they build in my dirty village. you should see the house one regular policeman is building right now down the street from me , he says it will be about 4 mil.

There is nothing in a Thai village for a white guy except madness, excess alcohol and despair..
But for a Thai wife, there is gambling, former lovers/husbands, relatives and all sorts of potential naughtiness.
Best for a foreigner to live somewhere far away (with or without the Thai wife).
Thats a good reason not to marry a Thai

Rangers Deployed to Refugee Camp After Riot
in Central Thailand
Posted
I live maybe 20 km from the Umpien mai "camp" they have always come and go running away to where i live. setting up business , working. our bragging how their family will be relocated to the USA but they will hide out in the village i live in until they are notified then sneak back into the "camp". a very long time ago it was nice where i live but for the last 20 odd years as soon as its dark everyone in the village goes home and locks their door. so unsafe with all these "refugees" running loose. and the one who wish to live and work in my village are under the "protection" of the police. as long as they each pay 100. B a month, and 100.b a day if they choose to work. big money for the police as there are thousands of them living in the village where i live. I really hate it as do most of the villagers, but..... the police are in control. if you don't believe me you are welcome to come see for yourself. KM 48 heding towards Umphang
