  1. I told you, Democrats are not standing at elections.

Democrat MPs, you can see he's not making preparations to run for elections, and we can see it. So he has no intention of letting the Democrats run for elections.

This means you will have no job, and your supporters have someone elses voice in Parliament.

So why not jump ship to a different party now? You have only a few days left, the registration will be early June, you have to be in a different opposition party 30 days before then. This means you need to switch to a new party now.

Section 101. A person having the following qualifications has the right to be a candidate in an election of members of the House of Representatives:

    (3) being a member of any and only one political party for a consecutive period of not less than ninety days up to the date of applying for candidacy in an election, or being a member of any and only one political party for a consecutive period of not less than thirty days up to the date of applying for candidacy in an election in the case where the general election is conducted on account of the dissolution of the House of Representatives;

You will win the seat, the democrats will be boycotting, you will have the vote for that seat in the next parliament. Better still you will have a party leader who wants to lead, and wants to get elected, and a chance to win elections.

Man the lifeboats, Captain Abhisit is scuttling the ship!

"Save me, save me from tomorrow".

  2. I have a friend who would love to find your street.

He got what he wanted but paid 600 baht for what must have been about 5 grams.

    giggle.gif

Your friend is confirmation of P. T. Barnum's one IS born a minute theory.

    Ya, I guess so.

I suppose he could have spent god knows how long running around sweltering Pattaya trying to save a couple hundred baht, but as the guy is a self-made millionaire, he wasn't too worried about spending a few quid to get the bit of smoke he wanted to enjoy on his holiday. I wish I were as much of a sucker as he is and had been able to build a million dollar business with my wife.

You do mean 1/2 a million dollar business, don't you?

This censorship is absolute rubbish... I know how much most people love the monarchy and the King. Isn't that enough? Those few who for some reason have something against the family should be able to speak freely. But I guess I'm just dreaming again...

In Sweden we have monarchy. Thailand wouldn't believe their ears if they knew what our newspapers likes to write about our Nai Luang.

That being said, all respect to his majesty for being one of the best role models this nation has ever faced.

Antiquated laws produce antiquated thinking, you have question why a law such as this would be allowed in a democracycheesy.gif

    It's not.

  4. How can one die from being shot in the nuts? I mean they aren't a vital organ ... err, well... sort of.

Yes, you can bleed to death from this. I'm a former army medic and I know this from training, not personal experience. The scrotum is very well supplied with blood vessels. If you were to cleanly cut somebody's nut-sack off, the severed ends might be able to clot over on their own and stop bleeding. A gunshot at close-range, OTOH, could shred so many blood vessels that the bleeding won't stop on its own and I'm willing to bet that even if this guy knew anything about first aid, which shockingly few Thais do, he'd still be unwilling to tie a tight tourniquet around it and call an ambulance straight away. Instead he waited, probably a long time, in hopes that it would stop bleeding on its own. By the time he realized he was bleeding to death and crawled from the bedroom asking for help, it was too late.

Hmmm - thanks for the information!

However since it's 8.00 pm here in Thailand and therefore I am about to go down to Dinner, it's rather more detail than I need right now.

    Patrick

No thanks Somchai, I think I'll skip the "Rocky Mountain Oysters" tonight.

  5. Shows that you have no rights as a foreigner in Thailand, no matter how long you have lived here.

Why should we have rights? You have hit the nail on the head, we are foreigners

I wish the UK government would take this stance with foreigners instead of changing everything to suit them and stuff the rest of the population

Exactly. These people crying foul on here would be the first ones thumping their chest and demanding deportation if a non citizen behaved the same way in their own country.

    actually not at all........

Thaitown protesters forced Thaksin to cancel Los Angeles talk event

Thaksin Shinawatra was forced to cancel a dinner and talk with red shirts on Sunday night in Thai Town Los Angeles after over 1000 protesters gather in front of Thailand Praza Restaurant. The gathering was peaceful. According to Siam Town USA, Thaksin's supporters had to pay $200 ticket to have live dinner with Thaksin. There was no sign of Thaksin, instead of meeting Mr. Thaksin, the dinner guests got booed instead as they left the restaurant.

Kind of like Fidel Castro giving a speech in Miami.

  6. Looks like Suthep and his lackeys failed to stop democracy!

    And what democracy was that

Its too difficult to explain. Get your mom to tell you when your 15.

Maybe the 6 million man picnic that brought bangkok to it's knees should be extended. lol

Suthep is doomed now. Police have all the evidence and warrents and they'll strike as the mob falls in size. They have the facebook group pics now of the guards with the guns. The PDRC are that blatant.

Power to the people and well done to everybody who voted. I was in klong toey with my wife today and not a whistle to be seen. all that area was free to vote, and many did. The fascist had a few phyric victories. I mean, they had promised to block the whole thing and even with the EC conniving and an armed gang, they could only affect 10% of the Country!

Great day out Suthep. After unleashing the armed gang yesterday, I feel we'll be seeing much less of you in years to come. The backers. They are outed as well, and once the mob is gone, they will have to switch sides or perish.

Well done to the Government, The election was peaceful apart from Dem/PDRC side who want dictatorship anyway.

Why don't EC, give all the votes in the South to Suthep to cast as he wishes for all time. One man, one vote and he can just tell them where they go. Then the muppets in the south get an instant awakening to the fact that Suthep rules them. Educate... You think so? Give hard fought voting rights to Suthep... smile.png up to you

WOW truely amazing that you are happy to have Thailand run by a convicted felon living abroad who should be charged with crimes against humanity

No, what's amazing is that no other political party in Thailand can put forward a candidate with integrity and decency to run against Thaksin's corrupt political machine in an honest and fair election. That fact is really saying about the state of affairs in Thailand, and the reason that Suthep and his backers want to take away the Thai's right to vote for a government of their choice.

  7. As Suthep and the supporters of the PDRC become the only ones - in lieu of the conspicuous absence of the administration and the police - to honour the death of the taxi driver, he - and his supporters - continue to show a great deal of bravery in the light of what is now very clear danger. After all, they are armed with whistles, cheers, and bicycles. They are not armed with grenades, nor do they have the power of the police to deflect from a true investigation, and to press their own narrative. They are only armed with the power of their convictions. For those who so quickly criticize this reform movement, these people are peacefully walking down the street, hand in hand. Direct your scorn to those who would throw bombs on them, to those who in their vested power do everything to discourage true investigations into these attacks, and do everything in their power to stamp on the right to free and peaceful expression in a free and open society.

Can someone please remind me again as to which group would benefit the most from an increase in violence, thank you.

  8. Thirayuth said civil war was still a possibility although he believed Thais were not that violent. "I hope it won't happen."

I have been around quite a lot (over 30 countries), trust me.... Thais are among the most violent people I have ever interacted with. They have very short fuses and many carry lethal weapons and use them at the drop of a hat. Once a Thai flips his/her lid, they are capable of going 'all the way'.

A product of their pent-up repression.

  9. Well, there you have it. The Dear Leader has no intention of talking to anybody, he is above all that nonsence about dialogue, dscussion, give and take and all the other silly trapings of civilised life. Total surrender and total subservience to His demands, or else!

I'm relatively new here in Thailand (4.5 years) can somebody please tell me who is pulling "his" strings. I've asked Suthep supporters and no one will give me an answer.

  10. Blah Blah Blah...do they realize, how ridiculous, they sound to Thai people? Thai people don't take advise, suggestions or orders from outside the Country.

The suggestions are all good, but Amnesty International has no rights, or power in Thailand whatsoever.

Their heart is in the right place, but they should do their research before they open their mouth. wai2.gif

Not true at all. In the 70ies the U.S. airforce wanted to install airbases for bombing Laos and Vietnam, and Thailand agreed in the aggression of his neighbour.

Money talks, and you know the rest.

  11. The most powerful man in the land has wisely done what someone in his situation should do and that is to make sure they are comfortably sitting on the fence with a full view of everything around them.

The army started this mess with the mistake of the 2006 coup. Things didn't turn out they way they wanted. Now their bad karma has caught up.

    wise? hardly.

2006 coup wasn't the problem. The ineffective Surayud government and the faulty constitution was.

If they would made much stronger laws against corruption/vote buying and on the other hand cut out all the nonsense laws which just cloak the system than the courts would have fixed half the mess already and we would have complete new parties instead of all the old dinosaurs.

You got that right, they missed the boat in 1932!

  12. HAHAHA just go near any grade school in Thailand and you will see underage kids riding 4 on a bike and all with no helmets. Also the police are there guiding traffic, and do their job, which is absolutely nothing. ( there is no way to line their pocket with children lunch money )

I see lots of kids in high end cars with no seat belts or infant seats.

looks like having wealth is no indication of common sense

No, knowledge evolves from open communication and education. Thailand for whatever reason has been kept in the dark and is behind the times when it comes to issues that most responsible Expats take for granted. I have faith though, " because the times, they are a changing".

  13. Kids in Thailand.

Most riding motorbike from the age 5.

Most never wear crash helmet. They will use mobile phone while driving. I see a crash and the young school girl was texting at the time of driving M'bike and It looked like she could lose her leg. Not funny.

None of them worry about accident with other car (who's going to pay?)

Parents irresponsible for buying and let them use M'bikes. I get really pissed off when its farang buying motorbike for kids.

I also never see kids use the seat belts when in cars.

I suppose its so easy to make new kids.

    .

Everyone wears a seat belt in our car me, kids, mum. The doesn't move otherwise.

Excellent , please stress this fact to everybody you know. Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge in the right direction.

  14. How quickly everyone forgets. Wasn't it just a couple years ago that the floods interrupted the supply lines in this country and you couldn't get toilet paper and bottled water here in Chiang Mai for weeks?

I remember what it was like trying to find essential items like kitty litter and brown rice. I see nothing wrong with stocking up on essential items, knowing the way the centralized distribution channels for manufactured goods work in this country. The management of our local Tops, Tesco-Lotus,7-11, etc don't seem to have any independent purchasing authority. Like so much in so many sectors in this country, all the decision-making comes from Bangkok and if everyone stays away from work in Bangkok, no decisions get made.

Is there any harm in having a couple weeks supply of cat food around .... just in case?

Why ? Because the embassy said you should or you would do it anyway on your own ?

First of all, on Monday and Tuesday nothing will happen. On Wednesday and after, something might happen, but you'll know on Tuesday at which point you can go and get food for 3-4 days, what ppeople usually do. Case of eggs, milk, bacon whatever you're eating. In 3-4 days you gonna figure out a way (without thinking at all, same as every other day or almost) to get food for next 3-4 days... etc.

I can already see bunch of scared-of-everything americans/europeans walking around big c pushing those carts filled with food and other bs they don't need. Such an image pisses me off. Probably because I grew up in war so for me this is laughable... protests and the reaction of foreigners on a first sign of trouble.

    It makes me feel ashamed.

    The Trolljan War?
