That's a very extreme view which I doubt the elites and their wealthy sponsors will subscribe. Thailand is a trading nation and depends on good relationship with all countries in particular with USA and the EU. Thailand has a long diplomatic relationship with USA since the 1833 and derived lots of military and economic benefits. Thailand relationship with PRC and Russia were relatively recent. The military treaties and economic pact like the GSP and the Treaty of Amity are strong incentives for Thailand not to pivot excessively towards the socialist countries. If Thailand was to clamp up like Cambodia which has a much different history; it will suffer immense economic downside; will be intolerable for the elites and their capitalist friends and an uneasy populace. Thailand do have a knack for staying neutral like in the 2 WW. That policy has worked and they will likely to continue.

Thailand has been playing the middle game for a long time, it's not going to change now. They're masters at playing one side against the other.

As soon as I read about the coronation i knew something like this was bound to happen. How sad. Why not postpone the second event??

Because the majority of Thai citizens are still mourning "the death of democracy".

“The election needs to be held by February 2019,” Prayut said during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday.

The word of the Prime Minister is once again proven worthless.

I'm not concerned about a 1 month delay it will give the anti Junta party's more time to campaign and get their message across. The Junta have been campaigning for over a year

They are perhaps the most on-the-take office in the country. That’s why visa agents in Pattaya don’t get bothered or even slow down during visa crackdowns. It’s always business as usual there if you’re using an agent who sends you directly to a certain person in the Jomtien office who handles whatever visa / stamp you need. They have quite a system going there.

When you see the official police flow chart, is pussy on the top or the bottom.

Yes the new constitution put an end to that loophole, but the junta is doing it through Thai Niyom. Its hypocritical and wrong,

We will see what convinces voters.. ideology and trust in parties or the goodies. If the junta gets considerable votes we know what convinces voters.

In a planned "dumb downed society", I'm going with goodies.

If he loses it would have been because he is incompetent, a fraud and corrupt.

If he wins then it was clearly rigged. Everybody here is saying it but short on details on how that actually works.

He will be elected especially since the last 4 years have been a learning curve politically for him.

I would vote him in for sure, no difference to any other politician except he is already in office.

Damn that's that's that Thai educational system, rearing it's ugly head again.
