this is thailand....if you don't like imcompetence, mismanagement, arrogance, racism, xenophobia, aggression, dishonesty, dangerous traffic, violence to foreigners, scams, cheating and lies....DON"T COME!
Agree, just stay in your own country or someplace where things work your way! Complaining about this will do no good.

you want to reduce death on roads ? easy ............. send the people to DRIVING SCHOOL , in those schools you learn how to respect other drivers, road safety , to read what road signs means etc .... unfortunately it seems the 15,000 dead per year in this country is not enough as nothing is really done to fight road accidents., ban on alcool ? pffffffffffffff a total joke as they did it how many time before and it doesnt work. ....
Thais learn nothing. They go through the motions to get their licenses and pass the test, then it's back to wreckless driving, and get out of my way, I'm coming thru. Half the village bkes are not registered, and many of the drivers don't have valid licences and insurance.
The ban on alcohol means nothing. They stock up ahead or have made their own moonshine to drink. Does the helmet law work./...NO. Does the use of cell phones in cars and bikes work...NO. The other day I had to follow down a soi where a girl was driving her bike with one hand, using her phone with the other hand, and trying to balance a very small child on her lap. Normal for her kind.

And of course, the electronic crap copmes from China, so buyer beware. Normally that stuff lasts a few hours/days, if your lucky. Check out before you walk away, especially calculators. Make sure all the keys and functions are working. One lesson learned the hard way!

Comforting isen´t it?There seems to be a big conflict between this report and all the other news reports related to what's happening in Thailand in other news articles. Safe! No insurgency?! No bombing? Are you sure Thailand? Seems the reporting is all directed towards getting the tourist dollars and numbers up.
No not very comforting, but I beleive those of us that have been around Thailand for a while know what to expect and can seperate truth from fiction. The general population just seem to believe anything that comes out in the news. Hopefully, our experience with the world at large willl help us through the things that we know are bound to take place. Lets hope so anyway. TV oldies can keep each other informed, I hope.

Great example of my last post. If there's no threat of insurgency and everythihng is well, why all the increased airport security. It would be nice if the people reporting this stuff in the news could just be honest and give the people the honest facts. I think the Thai people can deal with the truth. Happy Songkran!

Thai reconciliation, the world for that matter) is similar to the way posters go at each other.

A lot of sick people here that have a hard time being civil to each other.

Yup, Nothing new here. More TV posters posting negative remarks over every news piece posted. Sad world we live in. Can't please evferyone alll the time, right?!

The reason it is getting worse is that nobody gives a dam_n about anybody else but themselves. I see scum throwing their garbage over a fence on some one elses fenced off property, or along the road when one one is looking. I see the blue refuse trucks dumping their waste into lowland areas in semi isolate areas or staning water or roads when nobody is looking. It's the same with the driving and on and one and on.
This is the hub of laws that are not enforced. There are burning bans etc etc etc. on the books. Nobody enforces them, the penalty doesn't correct them, and on it goes.
Politicians from the top as crooked as they get. Lower level managers bilking the people in some way. Low lifes stealing from houses, campuses, tourists. The only time anythings was done about the burning was some time ago when National Geo wrote about the problem, so the super duper people that run Chiangmai and the rest Thailand were worried they wouldn't get anymore tourist money. It lasted a few weeks, then back to normal. They have a next to nothing healthcare for all people, so low cost or free care. Why bother about the air pollution; however, they will complain when their benefits and quality of living goes down because something has to pay for the problems caused the country.
Everyone has to look the other way or move because nothing will ever be done, just talk. The great hub of hubs in the world. May your lungs rest in peace!

They might want to check if you are using illegal software/operating system. They are getting stricter on software piracy.

No pool, village or hotel pool, has had any kind of life guard or safety equipment that I have been to. Thailand does not think safety first no matter what they say! Usually not even enough chlorine.

You can get a work permit with a non-O visa based on marriage. You can not get a work permit if your type O- is based on retirement.

Too many complainers and whinners on TV. Society tody has become a "me first: society. Give me what I want or I'll complain or make negetive comments about the companies and people who don't give me what I want, and right NOW! A hundred million people that can't stay off their cell phones or internet for a few hours without going into withdrawal.

Some years ago when they did it in the other building, you walked in and out in about 10 to 15 minutes. No muss no fuss. Once they moved the mob over to the other side in the tiny enclosed building, people started waling all over each other.
-
It's simple, really. Just go later in the day, and have a little patience.
That procedure does not work well anymore. It's undependable. One problem they have is the room they enclosed is far too small and confining for the people coming in for business.

Just add a 30kilometre high-speed rail link between the two. Shuttle busses are not going to work
Should be up and running by 2020 if Swampys link is anything to go by.

The airport may deep under water by 2020.

It's not just the airports, it's every Government office mirrored in red tape and bureaucratic confusion. Copies of this, copies of that, in an age of high speed computers. Is it any wonder?
What are they all going to do when the whole contry moves around somewhere during Songkran in a few weeks?

They think they're so smart but as long as they refuse to follow the King's thoughts, they are doomed to failure.
I agree. As far as I'm aware, none of the so called experts is following the King's advice. He has been an expert in water management all his life. More people should listen to the King and follow his guidance.
The article is making assumptions and predictions that seem impossible to insure are accurate, all based on some computer model. The only one that knows is Mother Nature!

Nancy,
They put the bar code on the last page, ask no questions, and when I ask them what the bar code was for, none of the clerks at that window could answer the question except to say maybe it will be used in the future. Totally unprofessional answer given they are placing an information barcode in your foreign passport.
Not sure what the questions are about, but I quess I have accomplished approximately 50+ 90 day reports they knew everything abhout me already.
Big Brother is everywhere.

That's the dumbest thing I've seen in the news yet. Companies have tried for zero defects for years and years. How can she make a comment like that with hundreds of accidents, injuries, or death each year. Only way is to lock everyone in there homes, and take away there alcohol, drug of choice. Good luck Thailand.
