  1. The " rules " change by the hour. A letter from the previous day should be ok but one with the same day would be safe. Balance and written confirmation from bank how long money has been seasoned for.

Just in case a photograph of you and the bank manager shaking hands and handing over the income letter will really seal the deal. (joking, but you never know what else they will pul outta the air on the day).

good luck with your first application. Lots of smiles and bringing along some fruit always helps.

Don't know if you are serious, but doing all that is not necessary. Get the letter on latest date you can before your appointment. The Major banks knolw what to do. Just match the date of the letter with your last use and provide the copies to immigration they require. If it's over the required amount by a few baht and seasoned for the required time you should have no problems. And forget the fruit. The appearance of a gratuity by others is not good and immigration does not expect it.

  2. the pro helmet gang always cracks me up. i personally love the guys who have 6 beers and take their bike home (but always wear the helmet) clap2.gif

if you're consistently going above 60km/hr then, yes, you should have a helmet on. if you're puttering around at 30-50km there is absolutely no need for a helmet. in fact, id argue a helmet INCREASES your chances of an accident at low speeds on account of reduced visibility, weight on your head, and the general lower awareness that a helmet inflicts, yes, INFLICTS on its wearer.

it comes down to awareness. if you can handle a bike and are aware enough to anticipate/prevent bad situations, then you'll be fine. if you dont possess those skills -- and riding a bike in thailand is very much a skill -- then no level of protection will prevent you from having accidents.

Sure is a lot of very stupid posts on TV!

  3. Same procedure as 15 years ago. We had to pay the office that recorded the documents in Bangkok extra money because they wouldn't stamp the papers the same day and we had flights back North because we didn't know that standard procedure was more than one day! Good luck. Once past the recording of the docs in Bangkok, the rest is simple and easy. Warning, at the local Ampur you will sign lots of documents all in Thai with a lot of fine print. No interpreter and your Thai wife will not want to translate what your signing.

  4. Never beeen ask for anything but the marriage certificate in 15 years of going through this fun exercise. The marriage certificate should have an official Thai seal stamp along with signature on it. The copies you provide to immigration are copies, but they can ask to see the originals of everything you provide, so always take them with you.

Unless you are always moving around, the Officers who do your paperwork get to know you a little and process your paperwork each year. When something required changes, they always tell us they have a new Head of Immigration in the Office and he wants something done a little different.

You'll get used to it. I do not have experience with the smaller Immigration offices around the country, but believe these nuances are a "I'm in charge" thing.

  5. A two second Google search will give you answers. Why spend time posting here on TV? Too many people ask questions they can find themselves with a little effort. And why go there instead of all the other magnificent places in Nepal you can see?

  6. Really dumb. A few months ago in the Bangkok Post (Maybe Nation too) there was a large article about one of the neighboring countries needed Thai skilled labors to fill thousands and thousands of jobs paying very good money. The only problem was a requirement that the Thai employee had to be able to speak and communicate in English, so they could not fill the jobs with Thais, but had to go elsewhere. Amazing thinking. English, like it or not, is still the universal language used in business and many of the technical, high tech, medical, and scientific fields.

  7. The prostate is an endocrin gland hence you need to see an endocrinologist, Dr Ampica at Sriphat Hospital (13th floor) is one of the very best in the country and a consultation with her should be no more than 300 baht plus the cost of tests.

Bad advice. Go see a Urologist at Sripat, Ram, or clinic of your choosing. The PSA test for men over 50 is ordered by the urologist who will also do a rectal digital exam. My Internal medicine Dr of 15 years does a thorogh exam as well and will send the PSA test off to the lab he uses for testing. You don't have to see endocrinologist.

That's probably a very good idea. If you go to the general medicine section on the 13th Floor at Sriphat, the doctors there will only take the blood test with no physical exam at all.

Sripat Urologist will do complete finger examination (and was very thorough), and so will the Internal medicine doctor I have used for last 12 years. Both are trained to detect anything unusual or lumps. If PSA is over 4.0 they often want to get a ultrasound. The normal PSA level is often higher with age, so if over a 4.0, it isn't necessarily something to worry about depending on your age. What is more of a problem with age is benign prostatic hyperplasia ... referred to benign prostatic hypertrophy.

  8. I did not know the red/white lines on the street border are meaning no parking zone.

What, you didn't learn that when you got your official motorbike license to drive legally?

    Guess we're all just lucky!

  9. At the end of the day, when you have a business and are paying anywhere from 50K baht per month to 200K baht per month (or more) rental, then you want people in your premises to be eating and drinking your product, that's what pays for the place. If they just want to come in and sit down for a chat or study (with one drink between 6) then it's not on. That is why many Starbucks have gone from free wifi to 150 baht an hour to get rid of the free loaders. I say it is a sensible business decision as it will attract much more of the type of customers they want (as they will get a seat) and get rid of those customers they don't want.

I agree totally. It has a lot to do with children being taught plain manners and courtesy by parents as they grow up. Assuming the parents know what they are in the first place.. Let's not forget safety as well.
