  1. Can anyone recommend a good hopsital in Bkk or Khon Kaen for treatment of spinal and trapped nerve problems ( eg good MRI scans at low cost, and theraputic treatment).

I have a lower back problem and have been going to see a Chiropractor in BKK but it is getting costly now , yes, it has made some difference, but is slow going.

I need to exactly identify the route cause of the problem, before deciding on next options .

  2. I have used acupuncture here in the states to stop smoking. what do others go to the acupuncturist for? Just curious for the future.

Used to have it back home in my local hospital for neck and back pain , brilliant
  3. Salt and sugar to dip your pineapple in ????

The other day i cooked Spag Bolognese for a load of school kids. i was told that it wasnt sweet enough and was encouraged to use 4 industrial sized spoonfulls to sweeten it up. Thais do consume a lot of both, either knowingly or unknowingly, but that is only my opinion, as i am relating to my own consumption of both, and only use one spoon of sugar in my coffee and never add salt to anything, even when boiling the spuds back home in the UK. My old girl on the other hand, where salt is concerned, is another story, but she has made it to 80ish and is still going.

  4. At this stage we only have Thai language news coming out. From said sources : The deceased was found around 11 am today. Police believe he was shot elsewhere and then moved to and dumped next to a pre-dug shallow grave by 2 or 3 assailants [ maybe they were disturbed as they didn't use said grave]. They [police ] determined this because the body was man carried a distance of 80 metres from where vehicle tracks of a suspect vehicle were found. They also found 1 shoe/ sandle near the body and have taken it as evidence. Other sources are reporting that a police officer stated that he is of the belief that the killer/s led the victim to the area in an attempt to clear a personal matter. When this failed he was shot, killed and then stripped of his belongings to slow down identification and hinder the police investigation.

Let's hope the BIB get to the bottom of this ASAP. I guess English media will be picking up the story when the BIB estabilsh the victims identity. wai.gif

Uhh , Where does it say the Guy is / was English speaking or from an English speaking country??? There are plenty of white farang doing dodgy deals here as well, just look towards Pattaya for one such place.

  5. For some reason the system left out the names of the herbs. In order here they are:

    Tribulus Terristris

Nudium Monnier (aka she chuang 2)

    Xanthoparmelia Scabirosa

Herbia Epmedii (aka horny goat weed)

    Ginkgo Biloba

    Saw Palmetto

    Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat ali)

Not wishing to flog a dead horse, but I think it's also worth pointing out that all these so-called "facts" about the contents of Balimojo and their miraculous effects are not taken from independent, unbiased research in scientific journals, or even from Wikipedia or some similar source.

They are taken directly from the Balimojo website.

Since the purpose of this website is to sell Balimojo, why would they make false and ludicrous claims about the stuff? After all the only effect of this would be to bring them in more money.

    Oh, er wait a minute....hmmm.

    Wholly agree

Couldnt be bothered to relist all the wonderful herbal descriptions , but just one thing to ask , are all these herbs in one tablet? and has anyone carried out studies on the combined effects of these on the rest of the body ???

Sounds good though, but does one tablet do the business or is it a question of building up a level in the body over a period of time by taking one a day or similar, as is often the case wth herbal products, as their effect is normally over a period of time.

  6. Hi Guys n Gals

I recently moved from Isaan to Bangkok, and noticed my initial 1 year driving licences ( car and Motor bike) are due to run out towards the end of next month .

I did my initial test ( LOL) up in Isaan, and am wondering if I can do the next stage , for the 5 year licence elsewhere , other than where i did the 1 year application.

Or is it typical Thai logic, that will make me go all the way up north again to do it or a situation of, if i do it here in BKK i wll have to go back to the start line again and only be able to get a 1 year licence. A bit like Snakes and Ladders over here sometimes it is.

If I can do it here, can anyone tell me where do i do this in the Nakhon Pathom province?

    Thanks Folks

  7. This is a simple but proven effective test to easy check if a Thailand expat is able to think outside the box, or not.

Or they can read the simple word below, or they can't and get confused.*

    evenalaystaocsaerrarehumanemest

    Yes?

    I can't think outside the box. :-(

Same here and I am usually pretty good with this type (Sic) of thing!!! an answer to put us out of our misery would be nice though.

  8. I am very surprised that no responses have suggested anywhere cheap in or near Bangkok, which is where i live.

Although a trip to Chiang Mai would be a nice adventure so may well look into that.

My missus has suggested that the Wat Rhaiking Eye Hospital in Nakhon Pathom may aso sell glasses lenses, so will be looking into that this week .

(As for prescription do not know as under treatment for eye medical conditions so obtain from Hospital as part of that exam when required)

Lopburi are you saying that you are under treatment for an eye condition at a Thai hopsital, and that due to the fact they supply glasses for you , that you are unaware of your prescription. I only ask in reference to my comment above referring to the possibility of obtaining lenses/ glasses via hospitals rather than overpriced opticans.

  9. I paid 8,000bht for varifocals (progressive) glasses a couple of months back.

I didn't choose the most expensive frames.

    Glasses aren't cheap here.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Tommophysicist, where did you get them so cheap? I am being quoted 16,000 bht just for lenses.

Bit far from you I think, I went to a proper opticians in ChiangMai.

But they had impressive computerized eye testing equipment.

Look at the 'tractor' while it tests your eyes and prints out the prescription.

Drive along MoonMuang, past ThaePae Gate, left at the SCB corner bank into Ratvhiti Road, about 100m on the right.

    It was

6k for the lens, 2k for the frames.

    post-152992-0-66899700-1344336582_thumb.

You might want to reconsider the frames.

They start to have problems after a couple of years.

Keeping the old frames is a false economy IMHO.

    Thanks again for that.

Is this a national chain of opticians or a local independent? if national what is the name of the company?

I have some holiday coming up soon, so if not a chain may have to change my plans and have a first visit to Chiang Mai.

  10. Thanks for the info guys.

It is really frustrating as I also have to pay for 2 lenses , and only have sight in one eye, but that would be the same in the UK too.

I do not trust eye tests in Thailand as they are so basc , one optician told me i did not need a new prescription when i knew damned well I did. others recommended a slight change, so had them tested in the UK in April as a precautionary measure, and got totally different result , but problem was I was there at Easter and the bank holiday meant i would not have enough time to pick them up before returning to LOS. So am stuck with having to bite the bullet and get them here, I am not going to change frames though and just go for the lenses replacement.

  11. I need to replace the variofocal transition progressive lenses in my specs soon. ie not Bifocals and with reactolite lenses.

I have been to many Opticians in Isaan and Bangkok , ( mainly Optical Charoen branches ) and I am geting ridiculous prices quoted of around 16,000 bht upwards, just to replace the lenses .

A friend of mine recently came over here before I moved here and told me new specs were cheap here, but I am getting prices quoted that are more than i would pay in the UK.

Does anyone out there have any experience of buying specs over here at reasonable prices. These are not standard reading specs or long range specs, so any sensible advice is welcome, Please.

    Thanks Guys

  12. we've already seen her entire military family emblazoned with chestfuls of medals all..

The warrior family's collective ribbon total is impressive, even after just a week of their first time in civil service.

    warriorfamily-1.jpg

No combat medals, though - did abhisit get one for the 2010 campaign?

    Thread title:

Yingluck May Take Defence Ministry: Cabinet Reshuffle

How did the young chap in the pic get his medals at such a young age? A very young achiever. Watch your backs Messrs Yingluk and Thaksin he may pull the rug from under your feet.

  13. Sounds an AMAZING place does Phuket, the streets must be paved with gold with all the civil servants, cops etc earning this kind of dosh , I think i may settle there and buy some land, there seems to be a lot of it being sold recently.

What a bloody farce , they catch 4 guys heading for Malaysia straight away after some super fast detection work and yet they know who this bad boy is and have yet to apprehend him , after he shot some one ( admittedly not directly a cop ).

    AMAZING !!!

  14. If Thailand really wanted to emulate Singapore, then surely it should start by encouraging its people to be a little more respectful of its own country and stop throwing litter everywhere and cleanng the streets up and repairing them where necessary. This would be the first job to tackle.

The other night I was present at a a school exchange program opening ceremony between Singapore and Thai schools. At the ceremony a well presented forward thinking Thai woman who spoke good English and was representing the Fullbright organisation, actually made light of how Singapore kids can feel much freer in Thailand, where they can throw their sweet wrappers and coke bottles anywhere they like, rather than be controlled in order to maintain a clean society, that is and seems to be what Thailand wants to achieve. What hope is there, REALLY???

  15. According to him, Thailand revealed how it had coped with the impact of last year's drought and worst flood crisis .

Yeah right, miss - coped would have been a better word to use.

He also said under the drought crisis prevention plan, the Department of Groundwater Resources and the Department of Royal Irrigation have worked together to prevent the situation from exacerbating. Drinking water, as well as water for other purposes, has been provided for residents in more than 20 provinces across Thailand.

Again, Yeah right, after the cock up in the first place.

    But what have they learnt?

Have they learnt that, it will not pay to use large proportions of the budget set aside for this mitigation plan to work for tea money payments, instead of what it is really intended to be used for?

Have they learnt to use real experts, educated in real universities, who can properly identify what needs to be done and advise, rather than the badly or totally uneducated Thai experts who, have maybe bought their positions, with little or no real knowledge of flood mitigation systems ?

    I doubt it.
