    Seriously:

    1. Almost all "food" that you can buy at 7/11 is not healthy. I cannot imagine that anybody doesn't know this.

    2. Many loyalty programs and similar things in Thailand are tied to the (Thai) ID card. This is not necessarily racist. Many organisations figure it is not worth the effort to run parallel programs in Chinese, English etc for people with different forms of ID, different format of names (Chinese,  Koreans: names have 3 parts, family name comes first; Indonesian allows for people with only one name)  and different script and language.

Actually,  many things here can be done with different form of ID and in many languages,  think of banking or AIS/true/DTAC. (In my home country,  they all would require the national language.)

!, total rubbish. Would love to know when you did your survey. Cannot imagine most people believing you. ( "ALL FOOD almost " )

They usually don't even realize it's racism so if you complain about it you're the bad guy.

SOMETIMES they not mean it --it's just easier because they need a Thai ID card. BUT they could have a passport or an I.D. driver licence so no excuse really.   entrance to National parks double entrants fee ??   they always did it, is the Thai excuse.

And you're just figuring it out that there is a huge racist streak here?

Oh dear, I am no that dense, 39 years from the first time,  but was only aware of the said topic point last week, only a good friend in 7-11 pointed out the fact.  It is no big deal to me for scrimping to save 5 baht.  it was that it was another place that practices the racist thing.

Curious how much the Op would save on a monthly basis if he had the card? Or would it just influence him into purchasing discounted items that he otherwise would not?

Ridiculous post,  the money savings was not the topic, it was scheme that should not bar any customer,  OR the poster was Joking, or he couldn't think of a more silly answer.   FACT

The topic was being informative, but we always get the keyboard tinkler that cannot resist being OFF the point

Should have forgot about improving the beach....the issue and it’s the main issue is the economy ie, the strong baht which is being manipulated by the BOT, and take a look at exports... can’t sell that rice with the strong baht, but you can buy a nice red Ferrari from the USA rather cheaply and those vacations and tuition bills are great now.

Yeah the chickens have come home to roost just like 1990 all over again. Turn those lights on in those condos on Asoke to sell em!

    ha!

Its sad what has been done to the people here.

Main Issue is the economy  ??????

Numerous nations in Latin America indeed do offer retirement visas, and the majority offer paths to permanent residence, sometimes on the first application, and the financial requirements are almost all significantly LESS than Thailand. How can an American not know that!?! Massive numbers of Americans have been formally retiring in neighboring Mexico for many decades.

Panama is the favourite of all,   google it for info.

    Why?

Just put the 800 k in an account and forget about it until you leave this place.

Your Elite Visa money is gone for ever.

    Talk about a bad investment....

Any ideas how to get the 800k out of a Thai bank if you ever leave.....  not your idea but the legal way to get it back to the UK.

second point,  you talk bad about an Elite, it is guaranteed,  the 800k may change every year on the whim of Immigration, with extra worries

If you are over 75  Elite is Ideal, a younger person a no go.

Bad high spending Westerners out good zero dollar tour Chinese in.....

But if you have a Elite visa we love you mac mac....

Did mention this this morning on Line ap free call to Thai Elite,  good English speaking person---- for those that not have 65k a month or 800,000  a 500,000 Elite is an expensive option, BUT i suggested to them give a 1 year Elite at 120,000 as a stop gap for those thousands who are in trouble with the new regulations, If everyone could get in touch and suggest this TAT may consider as a feedback.  TAT are responsible for the Elite card.

<removed>  im not on a pension. I am under 50 years old

Seemingly you not want to put 800,000 in a Thai bank,  options are, go out and return on frequent holidays, getting you 1 month free visa each time. But I am aware you cannot do this every month, maybe if you are Chinese tourist you can holiday every month here with a short spell out of Thailand,   They really want mega rich westerners or Asians especially Chinese in general.
