Thanks for you stupid reply, my cats are 16 years 10 years etc, you are not an animal lover or you would understand what an ordeal it would be to take them on a 10 hour car ride to BKK, then onto an aircraft for a 12 hour flight and a four hour journey to the north of England......who takes care of them during if the older ones survive the flights and journey's. Think before you call people silly, mind your manners.

Many retirees put all their money into condos or homes and automobiles and have or had (until now) a very good comfortable life. They have an income so they are not poor, as before or even now some just don't or can't meet the 65k pompous bar with the 800k trump card. Having 800k locked up even makes it more ridiculous and then the exchange rates are something else. Most all Thai even people like engineers, sales, managers, teachers etc don't make near 30k and they are professionals. 30k is a good salary for them. It is Thailand, but seems the current powers that be are becoming extremely prejudice against foreigners. And the terrible reality is, you are correct, if something isn't switched up on these new rules, it is going to hurt a lot of people who are good people.
You se, I don't bash out and say poor people because 30-40k is respect is not poor or even living frugal here. .
To compare a Thai family in the house opposite mine. salary --their teacher pay 25k a month, my UK pension 25k a month. they have a Toyota Yaris NEW, I have a Nissan March NEW. they shop for food locally as I do, and cook at home. They not drink the same as me their water/electric bills compare to mine.
Last year, August I deposited 550,000 in a Thai bank together with my pension made up the 800k. with the letter from the UK embassy BKK, and the deeds of my home to confirm my address in Udon.
What has changed is drastic, as you see I lived a very comfortable life in my air con 3 bed bungalow. ( just look at the snobs and stupid remarks made by posters about if you not have 65k you should not be here ) Admitted Had I known I would not have bought my new car, but the new rules are too heavy. My only problem is I am single BUT have 3 house cats and 2 dogs (my family) I cannot move---also I cannot stay yesterday I got my second 90 day report with now only having my May one to do.
Alternatives ???? none ----BUT give away 500k and get a 5 year elite card. Had I not had the animals I would have sold the car and belongings and returned to the UK.
ALL a bit awkward at 76 years of age isn't it ??

LOL. No, it won't. The loss of the lower end of the financial strata will be insignificant, because of the change in visitor demographics. The Russian and Asian visitor segments are experiencing double digit growth and they present a much better value proposition for the Thais.
ANY loss to any business is unhealthy, If the sales rise you would never ignore the lost sales. The lost sales would have added to the rise in revenue had there not been cleansing.

Numerous nations in Latin America indeed do offer retirement visas, and the majority offer paths to permanent residence, sometimes on the first application, and the financial requirements are almost all significantly LESS than Thailand. How can an American not know that!?! Massive numbers of Americans have been formally retiring in neighboring Mexico for many decades.
Panama is the favourite of all, google it for info.

Why?
Just put the 800 k in an account and forget about it until you leave this place.
Your Elite Visa money is gone for ever.
Talk about a bad investment....
Any ideas how to get the 800k out of a Thai bank if you ever leave..... not your idea but the legal way to get it back to the UK.
second point, you talk bad about an Elite, it is guaranteed, the 800k may change every year on the whim of Immigration, with extra worries
If you are over 75 Elite is Ideal, a younger person a no go.

Stay with the new rule or leave OR for many will now have no choice but throw 500,000 into an Elite visa, dead money BUT 5 years of ( cannot touch me anymore) relax save many having a heart attack, no proof of income, report at your local immigration every 90 days as you would have done on your retirement visa. Just to note if you are very old say over 75, you cannot take the 500,000 with you when you die.

Typical example, helping a school out because of classes without a teacher years ago, I tried a geography lesson. A compass point was not known before, Singapore was NORTH of Thailand, The Himalaya's were animals. It is not just history but world knowledge is non starter.

Can't you have your pension deposited in a bank back home and have them transfer to a Thai bank each month? That leave the pension dept out of it as they might not have the facilities (or desire) to make an international deposit/transfer for you.
See my previous post(on 16), 30k per month UK pension Is insufficient according to Immigration, but wealthy school teachers manage to buy a home, have a new car, family living on the same 30k per month, does NOT make sense to me. to note the pension is ordered to come from source direct to a Thai bank...

The thing is, many of them are at home (Thailand)
Well put.....A good point to think about, A good ranking school teacher here on 30k a month usually has a car, a nice home, family, and lives far better that most people. But immigration putting a figure of 65k income for ex pats , and some posters agreeing with it...... in reality the school teacher should demand another 35k a month because he cannot live on his 30k, get my drift. The high threshold for ex pats is encouraging more corruption to get round the problem. Most pensioners that get the UK 30k a month can live the same as a school teacher----get my drift ???

I don't complain about the 400k but the 40k month transfer every month starting next yr i do.its lot easier to get 400k into a thai bank account then it is to have 40k transgered from another country every month.
I agree, it is not just about the cash it is about the pension transferred from the pension department to a Thai bank, and a UK pension is adequate at 30k, so please tell me how I can ask the pension department for an increase ?? I loathe arrogant people on here telling other members to GO HOME

400-800k too high? people here who think that almost certainly don't have medical insurance and if they cannot meet the LEGAL requirements to stay here such people need to take responsibility for themselves and go home.
It is not just the 800k and well you know it, so if your'e alright jack ....not post, your'e after brownie points and not for you to tell people to go home, too many of your type on here , put your point but not dig at other people.

It won't be an invite will it, anyone using an agent because they don't have the required funds, or because they cannot bring themselves to trust a Thai bank with the measly amount needed would be in for a quick trip back home.
MEASLY ???? The required funds are far too high, Think for a cross section, not everyone has 65k a month and can live a very comfortable life here on Half of that, posters with your attitude smell on TVF, selfish and non caring.......If I have lived here in a 3 bed bungalow 14 years new car, pets and have savings from the 30k a month makes your smug post irrelevant.

Bad high spending Westerners out good zero dollar tour Chinese in.....
But if you have a Elite visa we love you mac mac....
Did mention this this morning on Line ap free call to Thai Elite, good English speaking person---- for those that not have 65k a month or 800,000 a 500,000 Elite is an expensive option, BUT i suggested to them give a 1 year Elite at 120,000 as a stop gap for those thousands who are in trouble with the new regulations, If everyone could get in touch and suggest this TAT may consider as a feedback. TAT are responsible for the Elite card.

<removed> im not on a pension. I am under 50 years old
Seemingly you not want to put 800,000 in a Thai bank, options are, go out and return on frequent holidays, getting you 1 month free visa each time. But I am aware you cannot do this every month, maybe if you are Chinese tourist you can holiday every month here with a short spell out of Thailand, They really want mega rich westerners or Asians especially Chinese in general.

I have 65k per month. How come there is no visa for me?
If this said amount is transferred from your pension source to a Thai bank per month, you get a retirement visa, OR you put 800,000 deposit in the Thai bank to lay there 3 months then apply with the relevant forms of application and the bank letter to verify is has been there 3 months

You are right. Just looks like the chilling out will not be at my place in Thailand. Looka like its just for the old fellas now.
Hey my friend OK for old fellas ??? how wrong you are I am 76 been coming here 39 years but living here 14 years Udon. It is not just for old fellas, it really means if you not have 65k per month, or 800k in a Thai bank. you do NOT have choices, no matter what age. Sorry state of affairs when over my time here I have spent Mega Millions here mostly into rural area family, sponsored schools, temples, 5 cars, condo, Thai Airways tickets all those years. This is what gratitude we get.

You are an extremely clever person. Why didn't I think of this before, wait for the expats in thaivisa to issue a 1 year elite visa. Well I need to say thank you, the problems are now solved.
I didn't say Quote, "Wait for the ex pats in Thai visa to issue a 1 year visa". Please read again, I SUGGESTED that all ex pats affected by the new visa requirements to contact Thai Elite there will be thousand and more that could do with a 1 year Elite to help them out. OK My suggestion was a 1 year Elite for 120,000 baht. Even Thai Visa forum to be a spokesperson on this subject would have some clout.

Yes, and at the end of all that, it is to be someone who is living in the Philippines. "sir"
No thanks.
Options if you not want Thailand, Panama, Philippines, OR home, back to our own country. I just suggested for a stop-gap to Thai Elite to issue a 1 year Elite suggesting 120,00, if enough troubled ex pats do this it could be a short term savior, COME ON THAI VISA EX PATS DO IT. Another option to help

The Philippines and Cambodia don't have medical services so Thailand is really the only option.
Philippines is the only Asian country to give the full pension UK, they have a reciprocal agreement with the UK, you get your full increment pension increases,

That's just ridiculous, and without any relation with the OP.
Thailand is a nice country, cheap and warm, where foreign retirees can leave easily.
So why would you want to stop people to do so ?
BW expats don't care what may happen in Vientiane Thai Embassy;
They don't need such visa-runs.
THEY ?? those without the funds have a problem, but over the years had sufficient to live here well, you sound a little selfish as a big % now have a problem, maybe by the sound of it you are not caring, Mai pen rai........it is serious for some,, family---a new car---living modestly

Up to your lifestyle, but why boast to me ??? If an older person is a home person and in less fashionable area, he can live easy on 30k, not everyone eats out, not everyone smokes, not everyone drinks alcohol, not everyone has a wife and her family to keep, Stop boasting, it is up to each and every individual how he lives. I lived very happy alone here for 14 years on less than 30k with a new car and 3 bed bungalow,

To be honest, there will be thousands same you, BUT all those 800k 65k a month types, will just sneer and say something like if you not have 65k a month you should not be here skimping
