  1. being over 60 and single I used to get a 90 day visa from Laos consulate via Nongkhai  stay overnight and collect the next day.  all of a sudden they refused and would only issue a 60 day visa.

Has the 90 day non immigrant visa now ceased,   for years I got one being an elderly person living in Udon I did not mind the 90 trip 1500 baht to enter Laos, the only drawback being 3 pages of my passport vanished every visit.

Looks like it will have to be retirement visa now with 800k in the bank.   anyone with the same experience ??

They are not "ex-citizens". ALL of them retain their citizenship, just not their residency.  The idea of "betraying the birthright of that very country" sounds like Trump rhetoric. That is NOT the policy of most governments. I live where it is affordable but I am still an American. I expect to be treated like one at my Embassy.

Agreed with most however if like most snowflakes in the USA your bad attitude is anti Trump, and if he was as bad you say...you would never be allowed back. He is the Top man who is trying to say legitimate migrants are welcome with work permits etc, not all and sundry.

Embassies are there to promote their own country, business, culture, democracy etc. Why should they help ex citizens who have chosen to live elsewhere ? betraying the birthright of that very country. Seems fair enough to me, tough shit.

Because the retirement person on old age pension paid into the system for maybe 50 years to receive on retirement, it is his hard earned money. NOT to say if you go away we will cap it--or in your words --why should they help  ?? look up what else embassies and consulates are there for.  so it is not their business if you die abroad  ???  hey come on.

I have been asked twice in the last 18 months for my passport at 2 different police checkpoints and they checked everything in it including the departure card, 90 day report date and the address receipt. How many of you carry a copy of them?

They will ask at some places for anything, if you not have you get fined, I am waiting for them to ask how many original teeth my grandmother had upon death  LOL

I assure you many many foreigners have deposited 800,000 baht in a Thai bank to get their retirement extension, and live on! Most of the ones I know I would define being sober minded. Insane would be to go back to the UK and live a miserable retirement because, in a huff, I had a distrust of local banks or am annoyed at the actions of my Embassy.

Insane ??   For 11 years when I started my old age pension (at that time I never saw in writing that if I moved to Thailand not normally residing in the UK, that I would not get increment increases)  So the pension is static at 87 pound sterling. Back home I would receive above 160 pound and winter payments NHS, transport discounts and the rest.  Summing up the UK would be far worse off if I returned.  So WT& are they thinking by capping my pension ??  an official told me it is because I am not spending the money on the UK   Ha Ha Ha.  but in the Philip you receive the full amount, even if you are not residing in the UK.

But on topic the pension given out in full makes a big difference to the cash in the bank and the pension.   Maybe I was stupid in changing my address on my UK bank statement, and yearly statement from the pension department.  Being honest does not pay in this respect.   As many friends over here get full pension.

Hope he ate it before the sea of efluent infected it.

That is terrible insinuating the sea  is polluted, it could tarnish the reputation of the pure turquoise waters here. Just to add, "let him go free"  How freaking stupid, the guy has a mental disorder and should be on the next flight home for treatment or a care home.     If it was me they would send me back to the UK and quickly.  AMAZING

  7. Retirement visa,  proof of address.    Immigration have the lease from 1 year ago. ( a 3 year one ) signed with ID from the owner of my house.  This lease ends this December 2018.       Do I have to have the same copy signed again as it is the the same as last years.   Can I produce electric and water bill paid and bank statements sent to the address.  Because the Thai owner lives away and does not communicate or speak English.    My address is also on both Thai driving licences, are these enough for proof  ???.....Another proof is the returning income verification from the British consulate EMS post. to my address.

I would be amazed if shops can get better prices than the net as they have larger overheads. Could be wrong of course.

I fly three times a year to Thailand and due to my job are unable to be flexible on dates.

My friends and family fly on average prices from the UK 599,     However booking from Thailand return the same flight would be  799 pound.  From BKK to LHR  I normally travel   Etihad or Emirates to Manchester 1 stop  about 30,000 bht

What is all this Air Asia business,      Even the biggest airlines have crashes.      Air Asia have a younger fleet than Thai. I fly Air Asia, Nok, Lion, Thai Smile EVA, Emirates -Etihad BA,     It is availability most of the time, flight times that suit, the choice at the time. NOT just the cheapest. Do yourself a favour and read the good reports about Air Asia as well.  Less favourable Airlines are some African, Tarom, Beman, Aeroflot, Garuda,  the best in my estimation are New Zealand.

Sorry due to slow post acceptance, I posted a second time

Maybe but advertising helps and the lure of cheap tickets. It's like buying a car. Both cars an do the same thing but you will buy the one that is cheaper in most cases unless u have an abundance of money. That flight to Singapore was a nightmare. From departure to landing. But ok take your air Asia I will choose another airline and then we are both happy ok. But do yourself a favor read about the Air Asia flight that crashed from Indonesia To Kl All dead. Could have been avoided if the guidelines adhered to

If Thai is 10 Air Asia would be 110. They would be the worst airline I have ever flown with. Oh, one thing they did shine in they scared my wife once when we were flying to Singapore. Which is one thing I have never been able to do? Well done Air Asia. Here is my scorecard for Air Asia. Service 0  Safety0 Planes on time 0 Economy seating 0 Rudeness 10 Don't care attitude more important play phones 10 Then you look on the wall inside the plane and you see they get a 5-star rating with Skytrax What a joke? Sooner pay bit extra then travel by Air Asia

Why did you fly again with Air Asia ??   or was your summing up on 1 flight to Singapore  ??   Pay Thai prices then.  Air Asia do very well without your custom Sure they not use Dakota DC4.  ha ha

Do they? There are three airlines that fly direct from London. BA, Eva and Thai, hardly a monopoly. Out of the three I've always found BA prices to be ludicrous and Eva are usually more expensive than Thai.

Quote " you have always  found "   ????       WRONG about EVA, I have never found EVA  more expensive,, try Philip, Qantas, Get your google sorted

Oddly enough, they not only got 10th place overall, they got 1st place in Economy catering.

I guess to win in economy you just need to be a little bit less bad than all the others.

Economy  ??   Thai  ???      they increase the price when not getting the custom,   to get further revenue,    Ha Ha,   no wonder other airlines are getting their business.   They near have a monopoly from BKK  for direct flights, Just a pity Air Asia don't have a flight to England.....that would really shake them up.
